[Bug 367959] [NEW] Issue if installed by gdebi as a dependency

2009-04-27 Thread Vadim Peretokin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: postfix

If postfix gets dragged in as a dependency by gdebi, it does not open a
graphical configuration window but a terminal one.

Since gdebi's terminal is closed by default, the user might spend a lot
of time waiting and wondering why isn't anything being installed, while
postfix is waiting for user input.

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: amd64
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04
NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia
Package: postfix 2.5.5-1.1
ProcEnviron:
 LANG=en_CA.UTF-8
 SHELL=/bin/bash
SourcePackage: postfix
Uname: Linux 2.6.28-11-generic x86_64

2008-11-07 Thread Vadim Peretokin
This isn't an issue either in FF3 on 8.10. It does not create the
~/.mozilla/plugins, but the installation of Flash is flawless and it
works fine.

I guess it can be closed now that its not an affecting issue...

[Bug 294142] [NEW] [intrepid] Cheese chooses wrong resolution by default and fails to work

2008-11-05 Thread Vadim Peretokin

Binary package hint: cheese

In Ubuntu 8.10 final, Cheese may appear as failing to work for people
with the Bus 003 Device 002: ID 04f2:b018 Chicony Electronics Co., Ltd

In reality, the issue is that it chooses a resolution too high by

[Bug 290249] [NEW] failsafe xorg asks what to do after telling it already

2008-10-28 Thread Vadim Peretokin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Intrepid RC, 8600GT.

I had a date with the xorg failsafe dialog today, it asked me what
should we do. I suggested that we should restore the working
configuration, which I think she did. However then she asked me the same
thing... I've told her to cancel several times, at which point she did,
and gave me a small window telling me to wait.

She should've been more up to the point though to begin with.

Purge, wait a few days, hope that apt forgets about it and re-add.

I believe mvo said he'll be helping to debug this apt bug. Playdeb is the
only repository so far to use the dynamic mirror selection apparently, so it
is buggy.

[Bug 197811] Re: Ubuntu starts in low graphics mode

2008-03-02 Thread Vadim Peretokin
Hey man,

Looks like your drivers are a bit messed up, that's why ubuntu is
defaulting to the lowest, but safest setting. To fix this, try
installing envy:

http://albertomilone.com/ubuntu/nvidia/scripts/legacy/envy_0.9.10-0ubuntu4_all.deb

After you got it installed, go to Applications - System tools - envy.
Tell it to install the latest ATI driver, be patient while it works it's
magic, and then let it save changes and reboot. Let me know how it goes
for you.

PS. You should use forums.ubuntu.com next time for asking questions like
these. This isn't really a bug.

Re: [Bug 22007] Re: no 'Settings' button in gnome-screensaver

2008-03-03 Thread Vadim Peretokin
Oh. Well, I thought it was open-source since there's no visible license,
hence, it's in the public domain - and that means freely distributable.

Here's what the xfx said to me a while ago:

That's great!

If you have the means, please, feel free to redistribute your 64bit binary
version of the program.

So, the means here would be the repositories, and since we have them,
we're free to distribute the program.

On Mon, Mar 3, 2008 at 12:55 PM, Conrad Knauer [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

Vadim Peretokin: it is not enough for source code to be available; to be

The DEB file lacks a proper copyright file for the status of the code it
contains. Unless proper license info becomes available, it can't be
 accepted into the Ubuntu repositories.
