I found an effective workaround on the Debian bug tracker http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=446438 You need to merge ant.jar and ant-laucher.jar in a single ant.jar file and replace the symlink /usr/lib/eclipse/plugins/org.apache.ant_1.6.5/lib/ant.jar with it. Updated: I can list the printers by using that java code with jre-7
beta, but still can't see any print dialog when i try to print any

Fortunately I found a simple workaround somewhere else (can't remember where =( ) that worked for me, and only messes with the real culprit AFAICS: if you disable NetworkManager's roaming mode and force Automatic configuration (DHCP) autofs starts up just fine when the system boots. HTH Andre PS: to edit NetorkManager's properties, just go to System Administration Network, choose Wired connection on the Connections tab and then click on Properties. I dint read the message you posted correctly before. I had downloaded the original source for docbook2x 0.8.8 and tried that, which failed. I also justthen tried the 0.8.8-4 debian package which also still fails, though give a slightly better error message: /usr/bin/iconv: illegal input sequence at position 363 /usr/bin/db2x_manxml: program in pipeline exited with an error With the info above, i just temporarily remove the PurePerl parser lines from the config file. That seems to work fine now so that was the problem. I will divide this into two sections, suspend and hibernation, for better understanding. Suspend: After reading the triage and debugging guide, I noticed this advice: The usual problem occurs when resuming, and normally the culprit is a device driver that does not recover from a powered down state. So I had and idea: deactivate the module for WiFi (rtl8187), because it is kinda buggy (ndiswrapper used to work better.), and... voilà! Suspending works! I've resumed and suspended several times and Ubuntu did it gracefully. Just to make sure, I re-inserted the rtl8187 module and... suspend didn't work anymore. Could somebody else with this laptop confirm if it is related to the rtl8187 module? One interesting note to add: the laptop does not suspend if the lid is closed. Ubuntu takes me back to the unlock prompt. When the lid is open, it works perfectly. Solution: close the lid only after the laptop is fully suspended. Following the debug instructions didn't help much. The rebooting with no_console_suspend thing just gave me a black screen with the blinking cursor on top left of the screen (no flashing keyboard LEDs), and the sync; echo 1 /sys/power/pm_trace; pm-suspend gave me the same result, although I've grabbed a dmesg after rebooting. (attached dmesg-output.txt) [5.108036] Magic number: 1:908:515 Dunno what this line means, but the guide recommended to find it. Note: Suspend once worked well in Ubuntu 8.04 LTS, maybe because it didn't detect my wireless card, so the rtl8187 module was never loaded. Temporary solution: blacklist the rtl8187 module. I do not use wireless often, and when I need it, I use a (eek!) virtual machine with Windows. Hibernation: It is not working regardless of the rtl8187 module. So, for the test, I've left it enabled. 1. pm-hibernate with no_console_suspend kernel option. Didn't hibernate, as usual. No output on the console. Was able to switch tty (CTRL+ALT+F1F5) but no keyboard input was accepted. Tried CTRL+ALT+F7 to switch to X, and the system stopped working. 2. Per-subsystem hibernation testing The computer locked when I issued the command echo disk /sys/power/state. Was able to switch tty (CTRL+ALT+F1F5) but no keyboard input was accepted. Tried CTRL+ALT+F7 to switch to X, and the system stopped working, just like test #1. This problem was a corrupted dpkg info file. I just reinstalled the offending package in /var/lib/dpkg/info and it solved the installation/upgrade problem. I have an ATI X1600 connected to a large LCD TV. Initially the image had
a black border around it, so after googling around I found that this
little script solves the problem:

However, if I restart the X server or reboot the machine, xorg does not start
(complains about low resolution).

This problem is definitly caused by a set MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME env variable. I think it would be very apropriate to change the script in a way that it does not check the MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME env-variable or at least calls some unset MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME as first command. I would like to help though.
