[Bug 433856] Re: Display Properties sets virtual resolution too low
Thanks cement_head. As I am an absolute beginner I would greatly appreciate a few more guiding words: on https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/drivers-only which links should I open? or should I use the synaptic package manager (or other) instead to navigate to those drivers? Similarly, how do I find the FGLRX drivers you mention (which links to open, which buttons to press) ? Finally, how easily can this get messy and irreversible ? - Do I just need to remember which drivers I installed and can then simply uninstall them if I don't see the desired effect ? Many (beginners') thanks ! ;-) tp. -- Display Properties sets virtual resolution too low https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/433856 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 433856] Re: Display Properties sets virtual resolution too low
Like for vukasin0, dito for me. IBM Thinkpad R50, with ATI Mobility Radeon 7500. Plus: when logging back in I get the following error text across the panel: [quote] java (error) console microsoft print 2 how to hide panel [unquote] What has this to do with a) Java and b) Microsoft ? Sorry for not realizing immediately: The error text [quote] java (error) console microsoft print 2 how to hide panel [unquote] originates from various files on my desktop. [Bug 433856] Re: Display Properties sets virtual resolution too low
Sorry for multiple posting (no way of editing ?): New observation: Now that I told Display Preferences that my external monitor is to the right side of my laptop it has worked (though physically it still is to its left). BUT - the display is still a bit whacky and fickle, that is to say, the panels (both top and below Firefox, whatever their proper name), are mostly stripy orange with the occasional icon / button visible when I hover over it. So basically this works, but obviously far from perfectly. Any suggestions? Gee, I find this no activity for x days - expired thing really irritating and unhelpful. If I'm not a developer, how can I prevent this from happening?? [Bug 1105453] Re: gEdit hangs when searching a minimized css file
related to this https://live.gnome.org/Gedit/FAQ ? gedit is very slow and/or crashes when opening files with very long lines. Can you fix it? When designing GtkTextView (the text display widget of gtk+ which gedit uses) the developers had to make a design decision: trading off bad performance and memory use on corner cases like very long lines in exchange for better performance in search operations and full support for UTF-8 text. This is a known limitation of GtkTextView and cannot be fixed. On top of that Pango seems to use a lot of CPU drawing such long lines. This may be fixable, but it isn't easy... Feel free to give it a try. Crashes with long lines are usually due to out-of-memory conditions, but if that's not the case then we would like to know about it. I think I've suffered from the long-line issue a lot, and have used leafpad (and am about to try geany) as a more reliable alternative; don't get me wrong: if gedit were reliably stable and would not become UNUSABLE for certain documents, I'd have zero complaints about it... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1105453 Title: gEdit hangs when searching a minimized css file To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gedit/+bug/1105453/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
