I have the same problem with Debian wheezy(gnome 3), this is why I come to ubuntu 12.04. Unfortunately ubuntu has the problem too. [Bug 1452941] Re: PPTP VPN fails to connect in 15.04, but works in 14.04/14.10
pptp vpn works on ubuntu 14.04 with kernel 3.13.x and 3.16.x, but doesn't work with kernel 3.19.x.
