Karmic Release Schedule
Hi all, The release schedule for Karmic is now available at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KarmicReleaseSchedule. Over the next couple months, we will be hard at work getting Jaunty ready for release in April. However, you can expect to see the first Karmic milestone in mid-May, followed by a cease of automatic syncs from Debian towards the end of June, and feature freeze in late August. For details of the Karmic Ubuntu Developer Summit, please go to http://wiki.ubuntu.com/UDS. Feature Definition Freeze THIS Thursday (06/18)
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FeatureDefinitionFreeze All features with updates to be landed in main for the release must be named and acked by the ReleaseTeam. Having this freeze gives them a chance to identify any features which should be subject to an earlier NewPackageUploadDeadline or FeatureFreeze deadline because they are especially risky. -- ubuntu-devel-announce mailing list ubuntu-devel-announce@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-devel-announce

http://identi.ca/ubuntustatus http://twitter.com/ubuntustatus We've setup these two accounts to allow us to quickly provide alerts and status, when there are problems in the Ubuntu archives that are likely to cause very serious problems for a large number of users. Feature Freeze in place for Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat)
Hello Ubuntu developers, The Feature Freeze[1] is now in effect for Maverick. The focus from here until release is on fixing bugs and polishing. If you believe that a new package, a new upstream version of a package, or a new feature is needed for the release and will not introduce more problems than it fixes, please follow the Freeze Exception Process[2] by filing bugs and subscribing ubuntu-release or motu-release as appropriate. Please also make sure that specs assigned to you for Maverick are updated to their current status (which should be at least Beta Available if not Deferred, or unless granted a freeze exception). https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/maverick/ Our next testing milestone, Maverick Beta, is in 3 weeks (September 2). The list of bugs targeted for beta can be found at: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/maverick/+bugs?field.milestone=27563 Per the policy described at <https://wiki.ubuntu.com/RCBugTargetting>, this list is used for tracking bugs that are blockers for the beta milestone - so as you can see, the list is currently quite short. If you know of other bugs that should be considered blockers, please nominate them for release and set the milestone target for those bugs. If you have questions about whether a bug should be considered a blocker, please contact me or a member of the release team[1]. And of course, please also consider helping with the bugs already listed there if you have the time. Beyond that short list of bugs that are blockers for Beta, we have those bugs that are listed as release-critical for Maverick as a whole: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/maverick/+bugs If you aren't among the small group of people who have milestoned bugs assigned to you, please consider helping with those release-targeted bugs. UI and Beta Freeze this Thursday, Aug 26
Hello all, Both UI Freeze [1] and Beta Freeze [2] come into effect **THIS** Thursday, August 26th. After the deadline **all** uploads to the main archive and any user interface change will have to be approved manually by the release team. In addition, both the documentation and translation teams will need notification of any UI changes. For further details on these freezes, please see the referenced links. DocumentationFreeze in Effect for Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat) Development
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DocumentationStringFreeze We are now at the point where we freeze activities that create and/or modify strings in Documentation. This freeze allows the documentation to be translated. Exceptions may be made before release, on the following grounds: * Major glaring typos * Exceptional circumstances A string change must be discussed (and approved) on the mailing list (see http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DocumentationTeam/Contact). If a string is changed after the freeze, it must be communicated to the translators (by writing to the ubuntu-translators mailing list) with enough time to update the translations before the translation freeze. After release, any fixes must comply with the StableReleaseUpdates procedure (and are therefore acceptable in extremely limited circumstances, as prescribed by that page), and where necessary must be accompanied by translations before uploading. -- Robbie Williamson rob...@ubuntu.com Ubuntu robbiew[irc.freenode.net] "You can't be lucky all the time, but you can be smart everyday" -Mos Def "Arrogance is thinking you are better than everyone else, while Confidence is knowing no one else is better than you." -Me ;) -- ubuntu-devel-announce mailing list ubuntu-devel-announce@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-devel-announce
[IMPORTANT] Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat) FinalFreeze and KernelFreeze *THIS* Thursday, September 16th
FinalFreeze: EXTREMELY anal-retentive, high-caution period until the FinalRelease goes out. ReleaseTeam and relevant section team confirmed fixes only! Exceptions requiring confirmation: * Release critical bugs * Security critical bugs * Exceptional circumstances * Acts of God, Buddha, Vishnu, Zeus, etc universe/multiverse: please look at https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel/2008-April/025259.html for details. KernelFreeze is the deadline for kernel updates, since they require several lockstep actions which must be folded into the CD building process. As with other freeze dates, exceptional circumstances may justify exemptions to the freeze, at the discretion of the release managers. -Robbie -- Robbie Williamson rob...@ubuntu.com Ubuntu robbiew[irc.freenode.net] "You can't be lucky all the time, but you can be smart everyday" -Mos Def "Arrogance is thinking you are better than everyone else, while Confidence is knowing no one else is better than you." -Me ;) -- ubuntu-devel-announce mailing list ubuntu-devel-announce@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-devel-announce

Archive frozen for preparation of Ubuntu 10.10
We are two weeks out from the 10.10 release candidate and a little over 3 weeks from the final release, so as many of you have probably already noticed, the archive is now frozen and will not thaw again before release. During the freeze, all uploads to main must be approved by a member of the release team, so if you have fixes that are important to get in and will need discussion, please do get in touch as soon as possible. Uploads to main should at this point focus on release-critical bugs only. The list of release-critical bugs that we want to still try to resolve before the release candidate on September 30 is tracked here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/maverick/+bugs?field.milestone=27462 Additional bugs that are still considered "targets of opportunity" for the release are found at: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/maverick/+bugs If you have bugs which you believe should be listed there but aren't yet, please get in touch with me, Kate, or another member of the release team.
Ubuntu 10.10 Release Candidate this Thursday....This is it!
The Release Team has now officially stopped processing upload requests for the Ubuntu 10.10 Release Candidate, and will now start the ISO build and test process for the planned release this Thursday. Jonathan Riddell (Riddell on irc) of the Release Team will be coordinating efforts for the ISO build and release. Please keep this in mind, and refrain from making any requests of him or the release team that do not directly affect the 10.10 RC release. [Fwd: Ubuntu 10.10 is Released]
FYI my friends ;) Forwarded Message From: Robbie Williamson To: ubuntu-annou...@lists.ubuntu.com Subject: Ubuntu 10.10 is Released Date: Sun, 10 Oct 2010 11:10:10 +0100 Some time ago a group of hyper-intelligent pan dimensional beings decided to finally answer the great question of Life, The Universe and Everything. To this end, a small band of these Debians built an incredibly powerful distribution, Ubuntu. After this great computer programme had run (a very quick 3 million minutes...or 6 years) the answer was announced. The Ultimate answer to Life, the Universe and Everything is...42, and in its' purest form 101010. Which suggests that what you really need to know is 'What was the Question?'. The great distribution kindly pointed out that what the problem really was that no-one knew the question. Accordingly, the distribution designed a set of successors, marked by a circle of friends...to ultimately bring Unity to all things living...Ubuntu 10.10, to find the question to the ultimate answer. And with that, the Ubuntu team is pleased to announce Ubuntu 10.10. Codenamed "Maverick Meerkat", 10.10 continues Ubuntu's proud tradition of integrating the latest and greatest open source technologies into a high-quality, easy-to-use Linux distribution.
