recovery CD?
Hi, I made a fresh install on a laptop I am going to give to a dummy (on computer) person. I would like to know if there is some way to create a recovery CD of the installation. I installed some restricted drivers and that person would be unable to do so. Especially after a disaster. I would like a DVD or CD that the person will boot on and suggest a format+the same installation as the one I made (same modules loaded, same restricted drivers loaded, same initial username/pass, same configuration of compiz...). If you have any hint... -- Ubuntu-devel-discuss mailing list Ubuntu-devel-discuss@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-devel-discuss

ubuntu kernel team - focus on Xen
Hi, I would like to focus on xen kernels flavour. Nothing more, nothing less. Would you think the ubuntu kernel team would accept me to be part of them just for that? I just know packaging a bit, I dont really knwo all the features of the packagin utilities. I want that Xen flavour kernels are uploaded as fast as possible after the generic ones. What alternate action could I do? preparing 7.10 upcome
Hi, I dont know if you have already been confronted to the lagging of the mirrors at the date of any release. FTP servers are always overloaded. So. I have a dedicated server, at OVH (a French ISP) and another one at CTN1 (also French): How could I bring my participation in order to use my servers as up to date mirrors. It's no worth to have a mirror with a 5 days update delay. The goal is to get the releases from the top fo the tree server as soon as possible and then open my FTP to those how want to DL. That would imply: - knowing the most "top of the tree" mirror - advertising my server I know how to advertise my server. But what for the first point? -- Ubuntu-devel-discuss mailing list Ubuntu-devel-discuss@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-devel-discuss

No, there's a misunderstanding: I never told about a conspiracy. Why is amd64 late?
Hi, Why is the amd64 release/tribe always late? My favorite example is about the Xen support: http://packages.ubuntu.com/gutsy/base/linux-image-2.6.22-11-xen It is i386 only at the moment... As far as I know, Ubuntu tries to be up to date and tries to support the maximum of hardware as possible. And recent hardware is mostly amd64. So, I probaly missed something: the reason. Would you help me to understand? Thank you. :) -- Ubuntu-devel-discuss mailing list Ubuntu-devel-discuss@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-devel-discuss

Re: how to rebuild a kernel package on amd64?
Todd Deshane wrote: > As mentioned previously though, package support is good with the meta > packages ubuntu-xen-desktop-amd64 and ubuntu-xen-server-amd64. Which requires linux-xen: http://packages.ubuntu.com/gutsy/base/linux-xen (exists only for i386) That's why I am trying to package-build an amd64 flavour. It's a great opportunity that the package source is available, I just have to try to compile it. If I "apt-get source linux-xen", it retrieves the kernel's source package. Then, when I try to build on my amd64 flavour (1), many packages are created, but not the -xen I want. That's were I need help. status of Xen in future Gutsy
Hi, Does someone know the status of Xen in the future Gutsy? I see these: 1) http://packages.ubuntu.com/gutsy/base/linux-image-2.6.22-10-xen 2) http://packages.ubuntu.com/gutsy/misc/xen-hypervisor-3.1 and so on. (1) is still i386 only. I have a quite heavy CPU (Core 2 Duo T7500) and would be happy to use it for virtualisation and gutsy as dom0. I would also be happy to try to compile what is still missing for amd64 but I am not very clever and will probably need help. Therefore I would need to be able to write on -devel but I did not find where to ask writing permission in there. Would you know? Thank you. -- Ubuntu-devel-discuss mailing list Ubuntu-devel-discuss@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-devel-discuss
how to rebuild a kernel package on amd64?
Hi, There is a -xen linux-image but only for i386. I expected gettting the kernel package source on my amd64 version and rebuilding the package would build a -xen image for my arch. I see it did not, because built packages are not xen kernels but "simple" kernels. I want at least try to build it. It might have been blocked in some rule script, I dont know,... Would you indicate me where to check? Thank you. PS: How tohave my posts accepted in the -devel list?
