Re: So, now it looks like we will never get a phone, ever

2017-04-07 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
Can a fairly long-term non-geeky Ubuntu user, such as myself, install the
OS on a tablet? I'm not great at rtfm but i'm not completely useless on
the command-line and i have a spare device that i can relax and take my
time figuring it out.

With 2 big projects shelving this project is it time to give up on it and
move to the shiny new projects or could this go the way of Kubuntu,
Thunderbird or perhaps even Lubuntu or LibreOffice? Is now the best time
for me to try using it before it fades away or rejuvenates?

Regards from
Tom :)

2017-04-07 Thread Fòram na Gàidhlig
Well, that's a tinker phone. Nice for geeks like us, but for the average
user, not so much. I am talking about a phone for the average
computer-illierate who doesn't know any more about computer than swipe &
tap. We really need something out-of-the-box.

Even as a computer literate, I estimate that I'l need to spend at least
half an hour on their homepage doing some RTFM before I'll even
understand how to get the thing.

From my experience as a localizer, most big FLOSS projects take about
10-15 years until they are mature, I really don't get why phone
development is not being given the same chance.

If a free (libre) smartphone is your interest, the place to be is the GTA04
community (http://projects.goldelico.com/p/gta04-main/).
