Aren't the three evenly-spaced vertical green bars with increasing length, the same thing as the standard wireless icon on most systems? I think they were blue in Ubuntu 10.04 and earlier, but they are green in Windows 7. White on Android. But the same concept remains: three or four increasingly-long vertical bars, evenly spaced. If that's true, then many people would misinterpret this icon as having to do with wireless :) Other opinions? Hey, Alexander, I really like rbpitch5 and rect3813-0! rbpitch7 looks kind of like a certain rude gesture ;-) I might consider swapping out the excellent tuning fork from Saleel for rect3813... but it would be great if you could use the same pattern as 3813, but with the little horizontal slices like rbpitch5. So, combine the slices style of rbpitch5 / 7 with the vertical bar sizes of rect3813. That would be great! I'll still include saleel's svg in the distribution since it is a small file and people might prefer it, but I could switch the default if you make the requested change. Since linux-generic 2.6.38.1 we are able to get realtime operation again, so I updated the wiki page I made for firewire. From testing results I have gathered that the user does not need to belong to audio group to use firewire, at least as long as jackd is not running in realtime mode. We still need audio group to achieve realtime with jackd. As I explain in the wiki page, all that is required for a firewire user to achieve realtime operation with jack is to add oneself to the audio group. Adding gd question about plurals
Hello everyone, I've just taken over the very sleepy Scots Gaelic (gd) team (https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-l10n-gd) and am trying to find my way around. Two questions at this stage; I believe I need the help of an admin to add the team to https://translations.launchpad.net/+groups/ubuntu-translators and that this is the right place to request that? The other one regards plurals. I've read https://help.launchpad.net/Translations/PluralForms but I'm not entirely sure about how to go about having a plural ruleset added for Gaelic. In terms of the rules, we did a set for Mo**zilla (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=566859) which we could use - but where do I ask? Thanks! Bom, meu amigo. Obrigado pela ajuda. Acho que tenho de estudar o Dropbox um pouquinho mais. Acionando o Dropbox por meio dos menus, nada me aparece. Mas também é verdade que, quando apareceu, tive muitas dificuldades. Como disse em mensagens anteriores, sou cego e utilizo o computador por meio de leitores de telas. A Interface gráfica do Dropbox tem acessibilidade muito reduzida. Acho que sei qual é a tela que mencionou, pois já utilizei o Dropbox no Windows. Mas é preciso dizer que ele possui interface por meio de linha de comando. Podemos fazer coisas como dropbox start. No manual, não há referência a mudança de pastas pela linha de comando. Deve haver um arquivo de configuração onde isso está gravado. Não se preocupe. Tentarei mais por cá. A acessibilidade da interface gráfica, quando me deparei com ela, é tão ruim que nem mesmo cheguei a saber que as tais opções existiam. Aliás, antes de fazer qualquer pergunta ao grupo, sempre me pergunto: Será que não há uma solução inacreditavelmente óbvia para o meu problema e só não me deparei com ela porque o leitor de telas não me forneceu um relato fiel do panorama? Tudo blz Cesar? Sim, concordo que o processo de hibernação seja esse, primeiramente tela branca (na verdade preta) depois hiberna. O retorno consiste em tela travada (solicitação de senha). Porém o meu caso é diferente ele não hiberna, entra em tela branca, e no momento de hibernar retorna direto para a tela travada. copy e fim:

Usar:
Colocar dentro de um arquivo: permissao.sh e dar permissão de execução,
levar ele para um diretório abaixo da que vai executar:
./permissao.sh nome_do_diretorio
Ele varre todo esse diretório e sub-diretórios e dá permissão aos
diretórios 744 e aos arquivos que encontrar dá permissão 644. Pode mudar
o valor da permissão se quiser. Eu queria (e pode ser melhorado) colocar
as variáveis $1 $2 $3, o primeiro ele captura o primeiro parâmetro que é
o diretório e verifica se é um diretório (if [ -d $1] then ...), o
segundo parâmetro se é um valor de permissão válido para a permissão e o
terceiro é um parâmetro de permissão para arquivos válidos, (pode ser
uma function), mas estou sem tempo de fazer isso agora, estou de viagem
marcada para São Paulo no dia 19/Fev e estou arrumando minhas coisas
Alguém pode ver isso (se quiser).
Do jeito acima funciona bem. Outra coisa que eu poderia fazer é
verificar se o arquivo é um .sh ou .bin e marcar ele como executável,
etc... Mas acho que seria melhor fazer um programinha em Lazarus.
Noutra ocasião eu vejo isso.

Fazer a instalação por CD, o drive da máquina está com problemas também hehe. O que me sugerem? Pode ser problema em qual outra parte da máquina? Cara, eu acho que o HD a imagem e o pendrive estão bons. O resto da máquina é que tem de ser trocado :D Brincadeiras à parte, fica difícil dar uma opinião numa situação dessas. 2011/1/30 Ednilson Geraldo Rossi ednilsonro...@yahoo.com.br Prezados, acabei de instalar o Ubuntu 10.04 em um HP Envy 15, ele reconheceu tudo, todo o hardware está funcionando, inclusive a web-cam embutida. O único problema que encontrei, até o momento, é a impossibilidade de hibernar e suspender. Quando tento fazer a máquina hibernar, a mesma tenta hibernar, sai do gnome e escurece a tela, porém o que ocorre é o travamento da tela, ou seja, é solicitada a senha para desbloquear a tela e permitir a utilização. Pesquisei sobre o assunto e a única informação relevante que obtive seria a necessidade do swap ser do maior ou igual a quantidade de memória ram da máquina, isso porque, segundo pesquisei, o ato de hibernar copia toda a ram para a área de swap. Não acredito que isso seja verdade, pois em meu laptop (Acer Aspire 5920) tenho 3 GB de RAM e 1 de SWAP e ele hiberna normalmente. Normalmente? Talvez não tenha notado, mas você pode perder dados se a swap não tiver o tamanho dos dados da RAM. Se nunca aconteceu o problema é porque, provavelmente, no momento da hibernação você não ocupava mais de 1G na RAM. Se sim, então temos que atualizar a informação oficial do Ubuntu ( https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SwapFaq), porque ela pode estar desatualizada e a hibernação deve estar colocando os dados em outro lugar que não na swap. Penso que seja algum problema com os módulos de acpi ou algo parecido. Você está certo, é o módulo de acpi do seu sistema que não deve estar totalmente conforme o seu hardware. Alguém já passou por situação semelhante e conseguiu resolver o problema? Sempre tive problemas com hibernação no meu note e somente após 3 anos de uso é que o ubuntu passou a hibernar sem problemas, mas ainda tenho problemas na volta (alguns programas não funcionam como deveriam), mas aí acho que outro problema. Só se for em versões anteriores do Ubuntu, pq na 10.10, eu espeto o iTouch, abre uma janela do nautilus mostrando o conteúdo e mais nada. Ele não é listado no amarok, no banshee, nem no rythmbox. Alguém aí utiliza algum ipod no Ubuntu 10.10? Teve que fazer downgrade de alguma bibloteca (como descrito aqui [1])? Seja no iTunes, ou qq outro player... Se eu tentar copiar algum arquivo para o iPod usando o nautilus, dá o seguinte erro: *Erro ao criar diretório pasta sem título. Houve um erro ao criar o diretório em gphoto2://[usb:003,021]/. Erro ao criar o diretório: -6: não há suporte* Tem outros softwares livre que dão o mesmo suporte, basta digitar iTunes ou iPod na Central de Programas do Ubuntu. André, fiz o teste em meu ACER com uma carga de 500 MB na memória e ele hibernou sem problemas. Só uma observação, este ACER tem 4 Gb de Ram (mencionei 3 gb anteriormente) e 2 Gb de swap. Carreguei a memória ram com exatos 2,6 Gb, e iniciei o processo de hibernação. O resultado foi que o sistema não conseguiu hibernar e as luzes indicadoras de sistema suspenso ficaram acesas. Um dos programas que usei para carregar a memória foi o virtualbox, e iniciei o windows seven. Um dos processadores da máquina voltou trabalhando a 100% e o windows travou. Concluo que a informação no site oficial do Ubuntu está correta. Estudando meu problema, descobri que realmente utilizo, com frequência, o suspender para a memória ram e não o hibernar que é um suspender para o disco. Assim, não encontrei problemas em ter uma área de SWAP menor que a RAM. Agora, como poderia configurar o módulo de ACPI para reconhecer meu hardware corretamente? André, mesmo que não tenha solucionado o problema me esclareceu muito sobre o assunto, obrigado. Se sim, então temos que atualizar a informação oficial do Ubuntu ( https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SwapFaq), porque ela pode estar desatualizada e a hibernação deve estar colocando os dados em outro lugar que não na swap. Penso que seja algum problema com os módulos de acpi ou algo parecido. Você está certo, é o módulo de acpi do seu sistema que não deve estar totalmente conforme o seu hardware. Alguém já passou por situação semelhante e conseguiu resolver o problema? Sempre tive problemas com hibernação no meu note e somente após 3 anos de uso é que o ubuntu passou a hibernar sem problemas, mas ainda tenho problemas na volta (alguns programas não funcionam como deveriam), mas aí acho que outro problema. Na segunda linha do seu script - permissão para diretórios - acredito
que o certo seria 755. Se você espera que outros usuários também
acessem o diretório mesmo em modo somente leitura, eles devem ter a
permissão x ou não poderão ter seu conteúdo lido corretamente. Veja
o ensaio abaixo.

Mais duas dicas:
(1) Recomendo que as permissões para os diretórios sejam feitas antes
das permissões para arquivos. Se você tiver algum diretório que não
tenha permissão de escrita, os arquivos não serão modificados e
consequentemente você teria que executar o seu script pela segunda
vez.
(2) Eu usaria um sudo chown -R usuario:grupo diretório antes de tudo
para corrigir eventuais problemas de propriedade, também.
Com estas modificações o script ficaria assim:

sudo chown -R $2:$3 $1
find $1 -type d -exec chmod 755 {} \;

Meu caro amigo, antes de mais nada devo parabeniza-lo, porque muita gente boa com esta limitação certamente não chega nem perto de computadores. Você é um dos poucos que conheço com esta disposição - acho que só conheço (virtualmente) mais um outro camarada na lista de programação em Python. Quanto as preferências via linha de comandos dei uma olhada no manual do Dropbox (em inglês) e lá informa que a configuração de preferências via linha de comandos só virá nas próximas versões. Quanto aos arquivos de configuração dei uma olhada na pasta .dropbox (dentro do meu home) e constatei que existem ali alguns arquivos .db que não passam de bases de dados no formato SQLite 3. Usando o sqlitebrowser, que uma ferramenta de gerenciamento de bases sqlite, eu abri o arquivo config.db e dentro dele a tabela config. Esta tabela tem apenas os campos key e value, alimentada por vários registros onde em um deles tenho: dropbox_path /home/wbraga/Dropbox Não tive tempo pra testar, mas acredito que se você parar o Dropbox, mover a pasta para o caminho desejado e alterar esta chave que indiquei acima apontando para o novo caminho; ao iniciar o Dropbox outra vez ele vai funcionar na boa e no caminho que você quiser. Eu não consegui utilizar o SqliteBrowser. O Orca, leitor de telas, é compatível somente com janelas GTK2 e, como ele disse inacessível, então, presumo que não seja este o caso. Mas quando inicio o Dropbox com dropbox start, ele diz algo como Para conectar o seu computador ao servidor do Dropbox, visite www.dropbox.com. Ainda fiz uma tentativa, copiei a pasta antiga para o novo destino. Havia um arquivo oculto .dropbox com algumas definições estranhas. Ainda assim, não funcionou. O programa deve fazer algumas consistências no banco e, quando alterei diretamente na tabela, infringi alguma regra. Terei de esperar um pouquinho mais para ter esta funcionalidade. Não importa. Assim, já está muito bom. Mas o que ficou de aprendizado é que, manipulando diretamente as bases de dados Sqlite e, parece-me que o Ubuntu a utiliza largamente, ainda que, no presente caso não tenha funcionado, pode ser alternativa muito interessante para contornar problemas de acessibilidade. O Orca é um bom leitor de telas, mas é claro que, por ser ainda coisa recente, não oferece suporte a diversos tipos de janelas. O Linux tem um espírito tão libertário que a diversidade se manifesta até mesmo nas interfaces gráficas. Ocorre que, para os leitores de telas, seria conveniente um pouquinho menos de diversidade. easily solved, because the {} around the variable name are only there
for style reasons, and are not required.
Here is a modified patch without the {} . Is there a test case for
which this one fails?
If this issue is deemed significant enough to SRU for Hardy and Lucid,
then it seems easier to me to get a small patch to one script accepted,
than to get a newer version of logrotate accepted.
Is it better to backport the logrotate patch? To do both the logrotate
patch *and* fix the apache2 logrotate script?

Wow. A 6+ year old bug in basic network connectivity. My home router runs DD-WRT with DNSMasq enabled which ...is designed to provide DNS and, optionally, DHCP, to a small network. It can serve the names of local machines which are not in the global DNS. But DNSMasq was unable to resolve a hostname for my Ubuntu 10.10 machine, thus other machines failed to locate it. This broke BackupPC for me as it could never resolve the hostname and gave errors like this: Error: Can't find IP address for [myHostname] [myHostname] is a DHCP host, and I don't know its IP address. I checked the netbios name of [myIP_Address], and found that that machine is not [myHostname]. Until I see [myHostname] at a particular DHCP address, you can only start this request from the client machine itself. Then you can install Ubuntu again and copy the contents over to your new home directory. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: lxdm After installing Lubuntu 10.10 from CD, several packages are listed as being no longer needed and ready for removal by apt-get autoremove. This list of packages includes ecryptfs-utils and its dependencies keyutils and libecryptfs0 . These packages are used by lxdm to handle automounting of encrypted home directories, and removing them *breaks* this. If such a directory is mounted at the time of the autoremove, this results in an inconsistent package database (ecryptfs-utils is not removed because it is in use, but the others are, and it depends on them!). Proposed solution: Adding a Depends: ecryptfs-utils to lxdm should prevent this issue. I hope to provide a debdiff against the lxdm currently in maverick-proposed to do this, as proof of concept at least. The other packages which are set for autoremove after installing Lubuntu should also be checked and any that are not really OK to remove need to be depended on by an appropriate package. There is information in bug #635698 and bug #653628 which is relevant to this issue. #635698 is fixed and independent of this autoremove problem, and #635628 is filed against ecryptfs-utils which cannot force itself to stay installed. The status is shown as Fix released but I am still unable to use it in Ubuntu 10.04 after reinstalling the xkb-data package. I also downloaded the iso of Ubuntu 10.10 and mounted it to see if the keyboard layout is included in it. But it isn't there too. So what is the current status? By the way, the Sindhi locale sd_PK is now included in the Ubuntu 10.10. I note that the adduser package Suggests: ecryptfs-utils . Were it to Recommend: it instead, this issue would probably disappear.
