I can download the ISO. It is no problem. But it would have been nice if I were able to give out official Ubuntu CDs at the Ubuntu Release Party to be held on Wednesday in Mumbai. Its gives error message ' permission denied' Maybe your user account has a different UID from what the liveCD uses. You can can copy them over as root. If you are copying from the command line, prefix the command with sudo. That is absolutely not what "this is project time for students." implies. > The link above also lists the projects to which students can contribute > along with the name/id of the person who is willing to be a point of > contact. err what link ? where? The DPG-LUG Summer Training program took months of effort and getting volunteers to prepare modules in advance and spare time every day to train the students and the students themselves attending various modules they were interested in. Such programs don't happen just my shooting a mail and asking for a "list of names". Someone needs to actively take responsibility for the program and run it. Otherwise it'll be a disservice to both the students and the FOSS community as I pointed out in my original mail. Care has to be taken that Format check-box should not be checked for the partition which is marked as / The installer can find out your /home directory and it won't touch it. - Manish -- ubuntu-in mailing list ubuntu-in@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-in

Looks like your system is not update. I mean the apt index. There is an application named apt-offline which does all your * apt-get update * apt-get upgrade * apt-get install operations. So you can update your apt database, upgrade packages and install new packages using it. You can try it out. Right now the command line version is well suited even though there is a UI (which doesn't work very well). You might want to get apt-offline package the first time how you are getting packages right now. Then you can read the man page to understand. I know I should recommend GUI apps, but I have always used apt-offline and it works pretty well. If you have any problems, please get back. - Manish -- ubuntu-in mailing list ubuntu-in@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-in
