We have experienced races in bringing up devices and partitions before. During work on automated preseed I'm not convinced that using echo into /sys/bus/ccw is sufficient race-free action. [Bug 1579712] Re: Refresh hangs indefinitely, appstreamcli using 100% CPU
The simplest workaround seems to be to use Ctrl-C when apt update hangs at the end. It's already done most of the work, and this just aborts the running of appstreamcli at the end. You can then go ahead and update any binary packages built from the appstream source package (ie any of appstream appstream-doc appstream-index gir1.2-appstream libappstream- dev libappstream3 libappstreamqt-dev libappstreamqt1 that are already installed). The use of appstreamcli in the postinst shouldn't hang because the new versions of appstreamcli and libappstream.so.3 will already be in place. However, using Ctrl-C is possible only when using the command line. I'm not sure what happens if someone is using Synaptic or Gnome Software. I assume it would be necessary to use System Monitor to kill off appstreamcli. I'm concerned that we could see breakage in a very large number of Xenial installations, all of which would require manual intervention to get them unstuck. The fact that this is happening now, when it hasn't been reported in the past 3 years, must be due to a subtle change in the execution environment, maybe due to updates in other shared libraries that appstreamcli uses. The problem is a result of reading uninitialized memory, and in the past it must have been pure luck that the memory always contained zeroes. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1579712 Title: Refresh hangs indefinitely, appstreamcli using 100% CPU To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/appstream/+bug/1579712/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1572620] Re: OSA Interface will shown during installation as unknown devices
Hello, Please consult Ubuntu Installation Guide, Appendix B. Automating the installation using preseeding, B.4. Contents of the preconfiguration file (for xenial), B.4.2. Network configuration. https://help.ubuntu.com/16.04/installation-guide/s390x/apbs04.html #preseed-network The question that is asked is netcfg/choose_interfaces, that is not currently preseeded. By default, if there is only one interface this question is not asked at all. However on this system it appears that you have multiple interfaces available. And the PCI interfaces have probably detected link too. Therefore preseeding "auto" will probably end up using the interface you do not want. Instead you should preseed: netcfg/choose_interface=encf500 in the param file, or if using preseed.cfg appended to the initramfs: d-i netcfg/choose_interface select encf500 Given multiple activated and available interfaces on the system, one must pressed which one to use. On a side note - does installation work at all with PCI networking only? (and no qeth devices activated?!) I am inclined to mark this bug report as invalid, as the described behavior is normal for pressed installation with multiple available network cards, on any supported architectures on ubuntu. Extract of guidance from section B.4.2: """ # netcfg will choose an interface that has link if possible. This makes it # skip displaying a list if there is more than one interface. d-i netcfg/choose_interface select auto # To pick a particular interface instead: #d-i netcfg/choose_interface select eth1 """ ** Changed in: s390-netdevice (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid ** Changed in: debian-installer (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete ** Changed in: debian-installer (Ubuntu) Assignee: Dimitri John Ledkov (xnox) => (unassigned) ** Changed in: ubuntu-z-systems Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1572620 Title: OSA Interface will shown during installation as unknown devices To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-z-systems/+bug/1572620/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1567287] Re: monitor names were changed since 14.04
I see same problem after upgrading. Scripts that were written with idea that the laptop built-in display is always LVDS1, as it always was, no longer work. More bothersome, the assigned value of the monitor in xfconf-query statements seems to change, depending on what is plugged in. This does work now xfconf-query -c xfce4-desktop -p /backdrop/screen0/monitor0/workspace4 /last-image -s /usr/local/share/Backgrounds/Animals/animals_lion- bcd2e615_dbg.jpg but in previous the "monitor0" was "monitorLVDS1". Apt-get no longer works
Hello all, As the subject says, for whatever apt-get no longer works for me. I can no longer fetch or download ANY updates/drivers. I can connect and download files via a web browser without ANY issues, so it has to be something with apt-get.
