[Bug 1571707] Re: The created partitions can be seen in the system only partly when partitioning 256 FCP devices with multipathing

2016-05-19 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
We have experienced races in bringing up devices and partitions before.

During work on automated preseed I'm not convinced that using echo into
/sys/bus/ccw is sufficient race-free action. Have you considered to
tweak the script to use chzdev tooling? instead of echoing things in
sysfs and/or using chccwdev?

And if using parallel mode, do use active configuration only i.e. chzdev
-a -e options.

[Bug 1579712] Re: Refresh hangs indefinitely, appstreamcli using 100% CPU

2016-05-19 Thread Neil Mayhew
The simplest workaround seems to be to use Ctrl-C when apt update hangs
at the end. It's already done most of the work, and this just aborts the
running of appstreamcli at the end. You can then go ahead and update any
binary packages built from the appstream source package (ie any of
appstream appstream-doc appstream-index gir1.2-appstream libappstream-
dev libappstream3 libappstreamqt-dev libappstreamqt1 that are already
installed). The use of appstreamcli in the postinst shouldn't hang
because the new versions of appstreamcli and libappstream.so.3 will
already be in place.

However, using Ctrl-C is possible only when using the command line. I'm
not sure what happens if someone is using Synaptic or Gnome Software. I
assume it would be necessary to use System Monitor to kill off
appstreamcli. I'm concerned that we could see breakage in a very large
number of Xenial installations, all of which would require manual
intervention to get them unstuck.

The fact that this is happening now, when it hasn't been reported in the
past 3 years, must be due to a subtle change in the execution
environment, maybe due to updates in other shared libraries that
appstreamcli uses. The problem is a result of reading uninitialized
memory, and in the past it must have been pure luck that the memory
always contained zeroes.

[Bug 1579712] Re: Refresh hangs indefinitely, appstreamcli using 100% CPU

2016-05-19 Thread Dennis W.
i had problems today to make "sudo apt update" it don't went away so
that i can got "sudo apt dist-upgrade"

i can terminate appstreamcli in system-monitor but that loading not all
packets

This fix has "repaired" the Problem, i quete the #24

After this working there came any Pakets it wont's to have install, is
that normally and or regulate Updates ?

"Weird, I wonder what happened that many people are experiencing this now...
Removing `/usr/bin/appstreamcli` is fine if you install the fixed package
afterwards.

To install this manually, please do (for amd64, adjust URLs for other
architectures):

```
cd /tmp && mkdir asfix
cd asfix
wget
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archive/primary/+files/appstream_0.9.4-1ubuntu1_amd64.deb
wget
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archive/primary/+files/libappstream3_0.9.4-1ubuntu1_amd64.deb
sudo dpkg -i *.deb
```

This should solve the issue. Please report back if this is fixed, or if
you are still experiencing issues!"

- Supported until April 2019 (3y):

[Bug 1549507] Re: vim in xenial not compiled with python support

2016-05-19 Thread Olli Niemi
I just tried vim-nox (is that for "no X"?) and it seems Python 3 support
works there. I had to use the "let g:UltiSnipsUsePythonVersion = 3"
definition there because the autodetection did not work. For Powerline I
installed powerline and python3-powerline packages and used the
following configuration:

let powerlinecmd=substitute(system("which powerline"), '\n\+$', '', '')
if !empty(glob(powerlinecmd))
python3 from powerline.vim import setup as powerline_setup
python3 powerline_setup()
python3 del powerline_setup
endif

Also: vim-plug seems to be working in parallel mode with no
configuration needed. The default Python is still version 2 in Ubuntu so
version 3 needs to be defined manually.

[Bug 1583897] [NEW] libgv-python: wrong symlink from _gv.x86_64-linux-gnu.so

2016-05-19 Thread Michel Alexandre Salim
Public bug reported:

On xenial, with the latest version of libgv-python (2.38.0-12ubuntu2) on
x86_64,

when importing the gv module I get the following error:

```
❯ python
Python 2.7.11+ (default, Apr 17 2016, 14:00:29)
[GCC 5.3.1 20160413] on linux2
Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
>>> import gv
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "", line 1, in
  File "gv.py", line 28, in
_gv = swig_import_helper()
  File "gv.py", line 20, in swig_import_helper
import _gv
ImportError: No module named _gv
>>>
```

Upon investigation, there is a dangling symlink -- _gv.x86_64-linux-
gnu.so points to a non-existent library that does not contain the
architecture, whereas the actual existing file is tagged with the
architecture (x86_64-linus-gnu):

```
/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages
❯ ls -l *gv*so
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root17 Mar 14 05:29 _gv.x86_64-linux-gnu.so ->
libgv_python27.so
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 92624 Mar 14 05:29 libgv_python27.x86_64-linux-gnu.so
```

Currently creating the libgv_python27.so -> libgv_python27.x86_64-linux-
gnu.so symlink manually so as not to touch the files coming from the
package.

[Bug 1572620] Re: OSA Interface will shown during installation as unknown devices

2016-05-19 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
Hello,

Please consult Ubuntu Installation Guide, Appendix B. Automating the
installation using preseeding, B.4. Contents of the preconfiguration
file (for xenial), B.4.2. Network configuration.

https://help.ubuntu.com/16.04/installation-guide/s390x/apbs04.html
#preseed-network

The question that is asked is netcfg/choose_interfaces, that is not
currently preseeded. By default, if there is only one interface this
question is not asked at all.

However on this system it appears that you have multiple interfaces
available. And the PCI interfaces have probably detected link too.

Therefore preseeding "auto" will probably end up using the interface you
do not want.

Instead you should preseed:
netcfg/choose_interface=encf500

in the param file, or if using preseed.cfg appended to the initramfs:
d-i netcfg/choose_interface select encf500

Given multiple activated and available interfaces on the system, one
must pressed which one to use.

On a side note - does installation work at all with PCI networking only?
(and no qeth devices activated?!)

I am inclined to mark this bug report as invalid, as the described
behavior is normal for pressed installation with multiple available
network cards, on any supported architectures on ubuntu.

Extract of guidance from section B.4.2:
"""
# netcfg will choose an interface that has link if possible. This makes it
# skip displaying a list if there is more than one interface.
d-i netcfg/choose_interface select auto

# To pick a particular interface instead:
#d-i netcfg/choose_interface select eth1
"""

[Bug 1567287] Re: monitor names were changed since 14.04

2016-05-19 Thread pauljohn32
I see same problem after upgrading. Scripts that were written with idea
that the laptop built-in display is always LVDS1, as it always was, no
longer work. More bothersome, the assigned value of the monitor in
xfconf-query statements seems to change, depending on what is plugged
in.

This does work now

xfconf-query -c xfce4-desktop -p /backdrop/screen0/monitor0/workspace4
/last-image -s /usr/local/share/Backgrounds/Animals/animals_lion-
bcd2e615_dbg.jpg

but in previous the "monitor0" was "monitorLVDS1". In fact, now that I
check my notes, I realize all of the monitor bits ended in 1, "VGA1",
"HDMI1", and so forth.

Apt-get no longer works

2016-05-19 Thread Ty

Hello all,

As the subject says, for whatever apt-get no longer works for me. I can
no longer fetch or download ANY updates/drivers. In both the Terminal
and "Software Updater" it simply stops after the "Fetched amount of data> in . In the case of the Gnome-software,
it simply stops trying to download the updates after a few seconds.

Everything network wise works fine. I can connect and download files via
a web browser without ANY issues, so it has to be something with apt-get.

Not sure if its helps any, but Gnome-software lists an update for
python-urllib3 and python3-urllib3. Both mention something about broken
IPv6 brackets.

Can anyone offer any suggestions I can try? Is there a way to download
these files to see if they are the issue?

[Bug 1583849] Re: dist-upgrade & FF upgrade breaks FF & Midori 16.04 PPC

2016-05-19 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1583849/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

In order to use the discrete GPU, in Xenial you can prefix any command with
`DRI_PRIME=1`. However, with this device, doing this crashes the device.

I tried installing a backported kernel that Alberto provided [2] and
even though the computer does not crash anymore, it still won't show
anything (but the process launched will take 100% of the CPU and cannot
be stopped nor killed, it looks...).

I tried with the following commands:

glxinfo
glxgears
DRI_PRIME=1 glxinfo
DRI_PRIME=1 glxgears

Once, I managed to get some output from the `glxinfo` command, with and
without `DRI_PRIME=1` prefix:

non-technical, regular user of a !!!LTS!!! release will deal with this
bug? Fixed for me and for (lets see) 300 users... and the others?

[Bug 1579712] Re: Refresh hangs indefinitely, appstreamcli using 100% CPU

2016-05-19 Thread Matthias Klumpp
I made the summary less technical, so maybe fewer duplicates of this get
reported when people go through the bug list. I also added instructions on how
to fix this immediately without removing packages or moving config files around
to the bug description, so people who find this bug don't need to read the
whole thread to get their machines working properly again.
Cheers,
Matthias

printer and printer utility working fine after driver install for my

[Bug 1579712] Re: Refresh hangs due to strdup on non-NULL terminated string

2016-05-19 Thread jowfdoijdfdwfwdf
My bad. I forgot to install libappstream3_0.9.4-1ubuntu1_amd64.deb

installing libappstream3_0.9.4-1ubuntu1_amd64.deb wtih dpkg first did
fix the problem. I think I was using gdebi. Does this bug break gdebi
somehow?

[Bug 1574498] Re: Add support to thinkpad keyboard backlight

2016-05-19 Thread Treviño
To get this keep the previous state after suspend/resume cycles, we
should probably merge this [1] too, but I'm waiting for this being
included in the official tree.

Also hit by this. And unable to manually install the deb, even after rm
/usr/bin/appstreamcli

Preparing to unpack appstream_0.9.4-1ubuntu1_amd64.deb ...
Unpacking appstream (0.9.4-1ubuntu1) over (0.9.4-1ubuntu1) ...
Setting up appstream (0.9.4-1ubuntu1) ...

[Bug 1579712] Re: Refresh hangs due to strdup on non-NULL terminated string

2016-05-19 Thread John Wang
@dsfkljo322332: Are you using dpkg to install the upgrades? Try
upgrading the libappstream3 package first, then the appstream package.
