In /var/crash do you have a _usr_bin_update-manager.1000.upload file and

If you do you have a .uploaded file please cat it and paste the UUID
here for further investigation.

Does the .crash file contain a Traceback from a python application? I've
recently heard from the current apport maintainer that there are some
issues with python tracebacks being reported.

I expect that the majority of these were on arm64 and a result of
virtual machines taking an extraordinarily long period of time to be
provisioned in PS6. This has been reported in RT 164415 and is
documented at our autopkgtest service page[1].

[Bug 2068933] [NEW] all reports with LaunchpadPrivate in them are tagged need-$arch-retrace

2024-06-10 Thread Brian Murray
Public bug reported:

I was recently reviewing the crash reports which the Launchpad retracers
handle and was surprised to see a bunch of ubuntu-advantage-tools
reports that retracing was tried for even though they had a ProblemType
of Bug. Looking at the ubuntu-advantage-tools apport package hook we can
see that all the LaunchpadPrivate is set to 1, then looking at
`apport/crashdb_impl/launchpad.py` there is:

1083 if "DistroRelease" in report:
1084 if a and (
1085 "VmCore" in report
1086 or "CoreDump" in report
1087 or "LaunchpadPrivate" in report
1088 ):

2024-06-05 Thread Brian Murray
I also had a look at these regressions and noticed that they seem to be
happening on instances in bos03 which is PS6 and has newer hardware than
PS4.5. (We recently completed the transition to PS6.)

I opened a bug 2068053 about for this for my team to investigate it some
more.

Please help us by testing this new package. See

to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
focal to verification-done-focal. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-focal. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

This has been uploaded to the noble-proposed queue yet the bug
description explicitly mentions this being fixed in Mantic first. Has
that happened?

Or more importantly - Does noble work with the snap again? (Also
mentioned in the description.)

[Bug 2066905] Re: LXD snap no longer seeded in any images so does not need special handling in unminimize logic

2024-06-04 Thread Brian Murray
** Description changed:

The LXD snap is no longer seeded in any images since Noble+ so the
  unminimize logic in https://git.launchpad.net/livecd-rootfs/tree/live-
  build/auto/build?h=ubuntu/noble#n290 and
  https://git.launchpad.net/livecd-rootfs/tree/live-build/ubuntu-
  server/hooks/01-unminimize.chroot_early?h=ubuntu/noble#n17 is no longer
  required.

  lxd-installer can remain installed.

This applies for Noble+ so requires SRU back to Noble

  [ Impact ]

Attempting to install LXD snap on unminimize when this is no longer
  required.

Due to how daily server image builds upgrade to packages from -proposed
this is also causing server image build failures - see
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxd-installer/+bug/2061017

  [ Test Plan ]

   * Successfully build server daily image
   * Build cloud minimal image and confirm unminimize does not install LXD snap

[ Where problems could occur ]

-  * If the server image built does not build or if LXD snap continues to
- be installed
+  * If the server image does not build or if LXD snap continues to be
+ installed

This was also necessary to fix the retracing failure although I imagine
it only works for releases like Noble and Oracular.

The 404 you encountered is a consequence of us only copying forward
neutral and passing autopkgtest results when opening the archive for a
development release of Ubuntu. However, britney (which generates
update_excuses) is not aware of this and produces a non-existent link
for the log file. Regardless, retry-autopkgtest-regressions should not
crash just because one log file is not available and I've fixed that
now[1].

[Bug 2061923] Re: my upgrade to noble went up in flames

2024-04-18 Thread Brian Murray
Looking at the dialog again it says "Do you want to rewrite your
'sources.list' file anyway?" not "Do you want to rewrite every sources
file in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ file anyway?". So I think it is
surprising that this had the effect of running with --allow-third-party.
