[Bug 1836176] Re: Touchscreen stops working after S3 suspend on Lenovo X1 Yoga 3th

2021-04-22 Thread Ricky Brent
There's a better workaround (method 3) now suggested on the arch wiki page:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Lenovo_ThinkPad_X1_Yoga_(Gen_3)

It works with Ubuntu as well; you can test it when the touch screen
isn't responding with:

sudo apt install acpi-call-dkms; sudo modprobe acpi_call; echo
'\\_SB.PCI0.LPCB.EC._Q2A' | sudo tee /proc/acpi/call

[Bug 1889258] Re: Cannot import SSH key (import button greyed out)

2020-07-31 Thread Ricky Hewitt
For anyone interested in a workaround:

It looks like if you import both the public and private key manually
into ~/.ssh (may also need to sudo systemctl restart gdm) and then run
seahorse again, they should show up.

[Bug 1889258] Re: Cannot import SSH key (import button greyed out)

2020-07-30 Thread Ricky Hewitt
Hi Sebastien,

The type of key is a 2048-bit RSA key.

Additional notes:

- The issue occurs with both password & passwordless keys.
- The issue only occurs when importing. (Creating a new SSH key via the
Seahorse UI works fine)

There are no warnings or journalctl output.

[Bug 1836176] Re: Touchscreen stops working after S3 suspend on Lenovo X1 Yoga 3th

2020-04-19 Thread Ricky Brent
usbcore.quirks=056a:5146:m also failed for me (with 19.10 and focal); I
read on the Arch wiki that disabling Thunderbolt in the bios (under
Security -> IO ports) might work and tried it, and it worked!

I imagine this breaks Thunderbolt, but have no way to test.

[Bug 1793949] [NEW] Could not determine the upgrade - 16.04 > 18.04

2018-09-23 Thread Ricky
Public bug reported:

After making sure my system is up-to-date, I ran the upgrade tool and
got the following when "Setting new software channels":

An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.

 This can be caused by:
 * Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
 * Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
 * Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu

If none of this applies, then please report this bug using the command
'ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader-core' in a terminal.

I got some details of my system in case they were useful.

2017-11-24 Thread Ricky Seltzer
Public bug reported:

Just came out of several hours of hibernation and load average was a
high 10. It's never that high when I use this fast machine. Htop says
big CPU user was Thunderbird.

Before I put the system in hibernation I was trying out Firefox quantum. It
seemed nice.
I closed Firefox before going into hibernation.

While typing this apport popped up with a gnome-shell error.

I haven't used the scanner in weeks. And I've rebooted since then.
Using kernel 14.1

[Bug 1728882] [NEW] I can't upgrade to 17.10 from 17.04

2017-10-31 Thread Ricky Ramone
Public bug reported:

The message I get is (I am translating from Spanish):

"It is not possible to calculate the upgrade. There has been a problem while
calculating the upgrade. This could be caused by:
- Upgrading to an Ubuntu version not released yet.
- Being running the current version of Ubuntu, not released yet.
- Non-official software packages not provided by Ubuntu.
If none of this applies, inform of this error using the command "ubuntu-bug
ubuntu-release-upgrader-core" from a terminal"

The 2 first options do not apply to my case. And to avoid the 3rd
option, I have uninstalled all of the non-official packages that I had
(dropbox, owncloud, chrome, spotify and virtualbox), and disabled the
corresponding sources in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/, without success.

[Bug 1668129] Re: Amazon I3 Instance Buffer I/O error on dev nvme0n1

2017-03-01 Thread Ricky Ramirez
Excellent. Sanity check here: This also means that trusty is not
affected because the udev rules don't match.

I have /lib/udev/rules.d/40-hyperv-hotadd.rules:

# On Hyper-V Virtual Machines we want to add memory and cpus as soon as they
appear
ATTR{[dmi/id]sys_vendor}!="Microsoft Corporation", GOTO="hyperv_hotadd_end"
ATTR{[dmi/id]product_name}!="Virtual Machine", GOTO="hyperv_hotadd_end"

# Memory hotadd request
SUBSYSTEM=="memory", ACTION=="add",
DEVPATH=="/devices/system/memory/memory[0-9]*", TEST=="state",
ATTR{state}="online"

# CPU hotadd request
SUBSYSTEM=="cpu", ACTION=="add", DEVPATH=="/devices/system/cpu/cpu[0-9]*",
TEST=="online", ATTR{online}="1"

LABEL="hyperv_hotadd_end"

Whereas in xenial the file moved to /lib/udev/rules.d/40-vm-hotadd.rules
and includes ATTR{[dmi/id]sys_vendor}=="Xen", GOTO="vm_hotadd_apply"
which does trigger the bug.

[Bug 1102001] Re: CUPS recommends incorrect driver for Samsung ML-1670

2016-03-20 Thread Ricky Ray
Guys, any link to a driver that works? I found the CLP-310 driver in the
official samsung page, but I couldn't get it to work.
Where do I find the foomatic driver?

I had been using my ML-1675 printer no problem until a few months ago on my two
machines with Ubuntu 14.04 installed and right now, after perhaps a few
updates, it has stopped working all together.
It only prints a page saying the driver is not the right one.

[Bug 1301015] Re: Networking does not restart

2015-02-10 Thread Ricky Seltzer
In 14.10 I have network failure after resuming from suspension. It never was a
problem then a few days ago it became a problem. The only solution was to
reboot. So I looked for a better solution and tried them all. The one that
works under 14.10 is:
   sudo service network-manager restart

There are 6 other solutions presented in the Ubuntu forums here and
there. If you needed to change it, you should have long ago created a
script 'RestartTheNetworkingHoweverItNeedsToBeDone.sh' and changed that
whenever you needed to change the underlying system.

[Bug 1412070] [NEW] KDE Plasma Workspace freezes when I click on any of the apps

2015-01-17 Thread Ricky
Public bug reported:

I am using Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS and I installed the fallowing packages from the
Software Center:
KDE Display Manager for X11 (kdm)
I checked these fallowing add-ons as well;
  KDE Plasma Workspace conponents (kde-workspace)
Set of wallpaper for the KDE Plasma Workspace (kde-wallpaper)
  Change Password (kde-passwd)
Provide basic gdm functionality to systems running kdm (kdm-gdmcompat)
Enable NumLock in X11 sessions (numlockx)
After that loaded, I entered in kwin and installed the fallowing packages from
the Software Center:
kwin-style-qtcurve
kdeartwork-theme-window
qtcurve
kwin-style-crystal
The Software Center showed that the fallowing packages was already loaded
probably from the KDE Display Manager for X11 (kdm) add-ons:
kde-Window-Manager-common
kde-Window-Manager
I also installed the fallowing software that was needed to use KDE Plasma
Workspace efficiently:
polkit-kde-1
Konsole (Terminal)
Install More...(Utility for browsing, installing, and removing applications)
Muon Discover (Software Center-Auto selected when installing Install
More...)
Muon Update Manager (Update Manager)
Muon Package Manager (Package Manager)
Dolphin (File Manager)
Gwenview (image viewer)
GwenRename (A batch renaming tool for KDE)
I rebooted the system and swiched over to KDE Plasma Workspace at login and
when I clicked on any applications, the curser animation start for a second or
two and then freeze in place. What was weird was I could still move the pointer
but I couldn't click on anything not even to change workspace or to log out. I
had to shut my laptop off to get out of it.
I hope you can help me with this.
Thank You
Rick

Re: [Bug 806761] Re: Feature Request: Upstart scripts for nslcd

2014-05-07 Thread Ricky C
That I did - though I forgot to set the if-up.d script executable. :P That
caused a pile of headaches until I checked my assumptions!

Interesting. Despite my longtime use of Ubuntu flavors, I'd barely gotten
used to the switch to Upstart! Ah, well. :)

Thanks,
Ricky

Hi Ricky, thanks for taking a look at this! Sorry I didn't get a chance
 to follow up sooner.

Unfortunately it looks like futher efforts on this patch aren't
worthwhile: Ubuntu will soon be moving to the systemd init system. See
 http://www.markshuttleworth.com/archives/1316. In the meantime, it
should be pretty straight-forward to manually apply the Upstart scripts
 supplied in the patch.

[Bug 806761] Re: Feature Request: Upstart scripts for nslcd

2014-05-06 Thread Ricky C
Ok, so I took it upon myself to make some of the requested changes, as far as
my current ability and worktime allows:
* Cleared the trailing whitespace.
* Updated the nslcd.init patch to use init_is_upstart

However, while I can update a patch, I have no knowledge as yet on
how/where to specify the Depends: lsb-base (= 4.1+Debian3) nor do I
know how to handle stopping the service in their preinst when upgrading
from a pre-upstart-capable version as per the final section of
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UpstartCompatibleInitScripts

Likewise the maintainer update was not done for similar reasons...

Sorry I can't yet be of more help.

[Bug 1308264] [NEW] Ubuntu 14.04 Beta 2 stuck at Switched to clocksource tsc when booting up, then resumes booting to the login screen, after 1 minute

2014-04-15 Thread Ricky
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 14.04 Beta 2 (Final Beta), it takes remarkebly long to boot up into
Ubuntu. Ubuntu gets stuck at Switched to clocksource tsc for a almost 1
minute or longer, then it resumes booting up to the login screen. On Ubuntu
13.10 it only takes about 7 seconds to get to the login screen, while it takes
almost more than a minute to get on the login screen on Ubuntu 14.04 Beta 2. I
hope this issue could be fixed.

I have the Acer C720 (chromebook) that has been enabled to use legacy boot so I
can use other OS's. Other Acer C720 users have been faceing the same problem
also.

[Bug 1250824] [NEW] Keystroke ctrl+shift+L is absorbed

2013-11-13 Thread Ricky Seltzer
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 13.10
Release:13.10
Dell Inspiron i3 laptop, 64-bit Linux. Inspiron N4110.

In the recovery-mode bash shell, ctrl+shift+K and ctrl+shift+L both work.
I test them by typing into the shell
ctrl+V, ctrl+shift+K, or L. They both work, and display as ^K or ^L
respectively.

In terminal mode under Unity, the ctrl+shift+K works the same way, but the
ctrl+shift+L is simply absorbed by something
before hitting the terminal. This happens both on my USB keyboard and the
built-in laptop keyboard.

I've looked through all of the settings I can find, including Unity and
Ubuntu tweak programs, and the ctrl+shift+L does not appear.

My editor has a command mapped to ctrl+shift+L , and that command did not work.
 So I noticed this.
The problem turned out to be the keystroke is not seen, and not in the editor.

[Bug 1246225] [NEW] package nova-common 1:2013.2~rc2-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: el subproceso instalado el script post-installation devolvió el código de salida de error 1

2013-10-30 Thread Ricky Ramone
Public bug reported:

When upgrading to Ubuntu 13.10, I got an installation error for this
package. Finally it said the upgrade could not complete, but in fact I
have 13.10 version running.

But I still get several errors when booting, related to this package.

Additionally, I have lost network connection after suspending the PC. It
solved after rebooting.

[Bug 1072136] Re: After doing updates, update manager propose to install an empty list of updates

2013-08-17 Thread Ricky Seltzer
I have been seeing this for a while on 13.04, x86_64. I was hoping that
whatever invisible software was installed would fix the problem, but not
yet. I can tell that today it installed something called plymouth,
which involves splash screens.

[Bug 1175539] Re: texmaker 3.4 hangs on message Process started when trying to build a .tex document in Ubuntu 13.04

2013-05-17 Thread ricky
Everybody can see on this youtube video ( http://youtu.be/yq2OF-nkIS0 ) that
there are no hangs, no 100% cpu processes when the quick compilation is
finished (and the avconv is running all the time to record the video)...
There is no trouble while compiling with pdflatex and Texmaker.

[Bug 1059137] Re: Cannot login after un upgrade from 12.04 to 12.10 (ubuntu-2d)

I think the simplest solution would be to honor the unity2d desktop but
force it to be unity3d. Then there would be no per user fixes needed.
The way I fixed my install was similar to this idea.

2012-04-01 Thread Ricky B.
Joseph,

Thanks for your help.

However, I have reverted back to Mint12, which is much more stable and
faster by far.

I am in the process of configuring a 32gb usb memory stick for it. I have
not been able to get the stick to run consistantly on several computer
setups for some reason. But it is fun trying and passes the time very well.

[Bug 873480] Re: Cannot update to ubuntu 11.10

2011-11-11 Thread Ricky Bulalakaw
I have a similar problem... I try to update from Ubuntu 11.04 to 11.10.
It tries to update, but it gives an error message similar above.

When I try to follow the command 'ubuntu-bug update-manager' in a
terminal, I get message that my Ubuntu package is not genuine, and that
my problem will not be reported.

The files on my /var/log/dist-upgrade/ directory are:

20110131-0822 20111015-1414 apt-clone_system_state.tar.gz
20110205-1150 20111023-1059 apt.log
20110523-1954 20111024-1916 lspci.txt
20110524-0743 2002-1115 main.log
20111015-0831 2012-1404 system_state.tar.gz
20111015-1055 2012-1417 term.log

I hope this helps in resolving the inability of my desktop to upgrade. I had
Ubuntu in this desktop since version 10.10. The internet connection is through
our university which requires proxy, I did not have problems before upgrade
relating to the proxy.

Thanks.

[Bug 882349] Re: sandybridge video, minecraft unplayable

2011-11-10 Thread Ricky Brent
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 829086 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/829086

This bug effected/effects me as well (i5-2520M), but this is a duplicate
of https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-
intel/+bug/882349 and you can work around it with the instructions here
:https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=39730

Robvdl says a proper fix is headed upstream though.

I was able to do the one shot fix by compiling the latest intel-gpu-
tools from git, then running as root:

sudo ./intel_reg_write 0x9404 0x1000

** Bug watch added: freedesktop.org Bugzilla #39730
   https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=39730

** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 829086

[Bug 485477] Re: Jump to track is not active window when summoned with global hotkey

2010-08-03 Thread Ricky Wong
I am using the Global Hotkey plugin. Preferences, Plugins, Global
Hotkey. Jump to file - super+J.

That brings up a separate discussion - if this bug is in audacious or in
the plugin - but nonetheless, if I just hit J in random places in the
program, most of the time the newly-spawned Jump to track dialog won't
be the active one.

Hm.. so the Global Hotkey plugin calls it Jump to file and audacious
still calls it jump to track..

When the active window is main or equalizer and I hit J, the jump to
track dialog is active. But when my last active window was the Playlist
or an item inside the playlist (just click around the playlist), hitting
j makes an inactive jump-to-track dialog.

I don't think the graphics driver is the main cause of the bug but it
could be relevant - in case a developer saw a potential problem with
this before. I can reproduce this issue with a single display now as
well. I have only been using the nvidia restricted driver and not
nouveau.

[Bug 485477] Re: Jump to track is not active window when summoned with global hotkey

2010-08-03 Thread Ricky Wong
I added your PPA to my Software Sources for Lucid and did a safe-upgrade
on the audacious packages.

I still see the issue when using the global hotkey plugin, and don't
seem to see it when hitting 'j' inside of audacious.

Should I be trying Maverick also or is Lucid backport good enough?

On a side note.. the Jump to track dialog gets hidden under any
Audacious windows when the Always On Top feature is enabled. I feel like
the dialog should have that property as well..?

[Bug 512253] Re: Mistake in /etc/network/interfaces keeps the system from booting

2010-07-14 Thread Ricky Sheaves
Robbie, thanks for reopening the ticket for this bug. To give some
more context underscoring the end-user's perspective that this is
defective behavior, imagine that an Ubuntu 10.04 server is racked at a
co-lo with no bootable ISO in the drive. Now think about what happens
when someone fat-fingers something in /etc/network/interfaces and
reboots the machine.

Even with ILO access to the box, the most convenient thing s/he can do
to recover from this is to configure a PXE boot from some image
somewhere, if that's possible. If that's not a possibility, or it's more
trouble than it's worth, it's off to the car to drive to the co-lo with
a Live CD in hand. This is exactly the situation I was in just a few
hours ago.

Certainly one could come up with end-around schemes to resolve this
issue remotely, but that's not the point. The point is that if this
server were running Debian (for example), it would simply complain,
boot, and allow me to fix the mistake via ILO without having to muck
with booting from a live network image or driving to the datacenter.

I hope that helps. A fix would be much appreciated. Thanks!

apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: audacious

I'm using 9.10-i386 with audacious package version 2.1-1ubuntu1.

I have Jump to track set as a global hotkey (super+alt+J). However, it
doesn't become the active window on the display when I do so. (I have to
click in the window to use it, which almost defeats the purpose of
hotkeying it.) I have a dual display configuration (using NVidia
TwinView and repo drivers.) Using GNOME.

Audacious in background + Jump to track global hotkey -- window not active.
Audacious as active window + Jump to track global hotkey -- window active
(duh, similar to pressing 'j')

Yesterday I saw different behavior when the Audacious window was on the
other monitor, but I can't seem to repro that right now.

2010-07-07 Thread Ricky Wong
Problem still exists with 10.04-x86_64 with audacious 2.3-1ubuntu4.
Reproducible even when using regular 'j' hotkey with Audacious as the
active window.

Now using nVidia TwinView with Xinerama.

The red light is the optical digital audio output. You can toggle it on
and off. I cannot test exactly where to go to do this right now, but I'd
imagine that you can do it in System Preferences Sound

I don't know that this will help with your overall problem though.

[Bug 488720] Re: Suspend/resume with nvidia driver fails

2010-05-01 Thread Ricky Campbell
It is only marked as invalid against the projects that it was marked
against inappropriately.

The other projects are all at a Fix Released status. The bug you
marked as a duplicate is likely not a duplicate...

[Bug 381884] Re: Appletouch touchpad driver produces jumpy two-fingered scrolling

2010-04-14 Thread Ricky Campbell
I believe that Macbook Pro 4,1 and newer use newer hardware and thus
have a different kernel module (bcm5974). This newer hardware make up
the multitouch touchpads (i.e. can track something like 11 different
independent touches all at once). Older hardware uses the appletouch
driver can detect whether there is more than one finger on the touchpad,
but do not track position data independently.

Both of these hardware types (and their kernel drivers) feed data to
Xorg through the synaptic driver.

Code repos for the newer drivers can be found here:
http://bitmath.org/code/

[Bug 515724] Re: [Lucid] Upgrade of grub-pc: Your embedding area is unusually small. core.img won't fit in it.

2010-02-05 Thread Ricky Campbell
You could just try installing it to your Ubuntu root partition. This is
what we would normally do when dual-booting with OSX anyway. It appears
that is /dev/sda2.

You also have a VERY small sda1 partition. Is that what it is supposed
to look like?

[Bug 515724] Re: [Lucid] Upgrade of grub-pc: Your embedding area is unusually small. core.img won't fit in it.

2010-02-04 Thread Ricky Campbell
Colin,

I was one of the contributing authors of that wiki

There are some issues that are specific to the Mac Hybrid system that
converting to the MBR format allows, such as being able to boot from
partitions beyond #4. I'd say that was the major reason for doing so. I
think a lot of the issues that were really cumbersome with GPT are not
that big of a deal anymore, and the use of grub2 may solve them all
anyway. Either way, it is old, and probably outdated info. It is, of
course, and open wiki and you contribution is helpful.

If parted says its GPT, then it likely is.
