Ok, so I think it has to do with packages being in
main/universe/multiverse packages in main require no
authorization, whereas everything else requires authorization
Not sure if I'm right tho...

Re: [ubuntu-in] Microsoft Monopoly

2011-01-22 Thread Rohan Garg
I can assure you that NONE of the OEM's will provide a system without a OS (
with the exception of just a handful of them such as Lenovo/Dell ) because
they get kickbacks from Microsoft for every purchase of a Windows. So
Windows is here to stay for a couple of years, yes i just said that, I don't
expect OEM's to instantly switch to any distro, even Dell hasn't switched
yet even tho its a major supporter of Ubuntu because it still needs some
polishing. So I'd rather support a OEM such as Dell than go for a company
such as HP which does not support any FOSS.

Companies such as zareason are awesome as well, they ship internationally so
id say get a zareason laptop.

So in the end, the main thing that matters here is the money involved. As
long as OEM's get kickbacks from Microsoft, no one will ever switch.

2011-02-18 Thread Rohan Garg
To answer the original question in regards to the ISO, I'd say have a look
at zsync.
Wrt to delta debs the issue seems to be that the implementation will create
a lot of diff between launchpad and debian, which would be difficult to
maintain, hence we have no delta debs in ubuntu right now.

I have no idea how old your graphics chip is, but it's a safe bet to assume
that it will work since *alot* of PC's come with intel chips, you will get
the hardware accelerated version of Unity.
However, if that doesn't work out, you will get the 2D (Qt?) version of
Unity without those fancy effects.

Re: [ubuntu-in] not login in pc

2011-03-02 Thread Rohan Garg
Hi
Could you please login into recovery and update you're sources.list
and then upgrade your packages with this command :

apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade && apt-get -f install

Also please check if you have kdebase-workspace installed with :

apt-cache policy kdebase-workspace

If it's not installed please install it by : apt-get install kdebase-workspace

If i recall correctly there was some issue with K/Ubuntu 9.10 where
user's cannot log into their system, and this was caused due to some
screwed up updates. In the end, i would like to recommend you to
upgrade to the latest Kubuntu ( Maverick Meerkat ) using any of the
upgrade options available [1]

2011-04-20 Thread Rohan Garg
Did you download the live cd or the alternate ISO?
You need the alternate ISO to upgrade.

Re: [ubuntu-in] how to connect mobile internet in Kubuntu

2011-06-11 Thread Rohan Garg
Hi
In Kubuntu 10.10 and below, the mobile-broadband-info package is not on the
CD by default, this is one of the major reasons why your setup might not be
working.
Another could be a outdated network manager.

Hi

You want to look at the ubuntu-defaults-image command from
ubuntu-defaults-builder.
