[Bug 332254] Re: package samba 2:3.3.0-3ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: underproces post-installation script returnerede afslutningsstatus 1

2009-02-25 Thread Thierry Carrez
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it without more information.

Could you please attach your /etc/samba/smb.conf file ?
Could you please attach the log files found in /var/log/samba/, if any ?

Looks like you had another upgrade or package installation running
somewhere else - that's basically the only way the debconf database can
be locked like this. If you confirm the problem does not persist, I'd
probably close this bug.

Maybe it is a broken apparmor-profile which causes problems?

[Bug 330138] Re: Ubuntu (8.10 with latest patches (patched on 16. Feb. 2009, 8.04.1 without patches) ignores filename cases on cifs-mount in an error-prone manner

2009-02-25 Thread Bugfinder
I have tested connecting a smbclient 3.0.33 (gentoo) against a samba
server 3.0.33 (gentoo) and it seems to ignore the case (lets me enter
the dokumente folder, but it is able to retrieve the file then --
ignores case completely, what I also could accept). When I use
mount.cifs (gentoo) and try to change to dokumente (the folder's real
name is Dokumente) I get bash: cd: /mnt/blabla/dokumente: file or
directory not found. Which I would like to be the behaviour of Ubuntu.

Could this be a matter of the cifs-kernel-module's version?

Can't check the exact version of the OpenSuSE 11.1 samba server, but
http://en.opensuse.org/Samba/Versions_in_SUSE_products
tells that it should be a 3.2.4 server.

I have tested cifs.mount with a Debian 5.0 client (Samba 3.2.x) against
a samba server 3.0.33 and it prevents me from entering the dokumente
folder, which is the right way.

2009-02-25 Thread Bugfinder
Using an Ubuntu client: smbclient ignores case and gets the files
properly, mount.cifs ignores the case when changing the directory (cd
dokumente works), but seems to be case sensitive when trying to access a
file in a then non-existent path (dokumente/file doesn't exist, but
Dokumente/file would exist).

[Bug 334470] [NEW] FFE: Network UPS Tools 2.4.1-2

2009-02-25 Thread Arnaud Quette
Public bug reported:

FeatureFreeze Exception for Network UPS Tools

* A description of the proposed changes, with sufficient detail to estimate
their potential impact on the distribution
--
Update the nut package in Jaunty from 2.2.2-10ubuntu3 to 2.4.1-2 through a
Debian sync (see LP: #332030)
This has a minimal impact in terms of risks, but a maximal impact in terms of
new features, Ubuntu differentiation, user benefits and diff with Debian (see
below)

* A rationale for the exception, explaining the benefit of the change
--
- this represents the final step of the Improved Power Management blueprint:
https://blueprints.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/improved-power-management

The other milestones have been reached in time, but sadly not for NUT
(too much upstream and Debian work)!

- this version adds many new features (needed for Ubuntu Server)
see the attached upstream-new-features.txt attached

- this version address a lot of bugs (see below) and has seen a lot of
Debian work (see LP: #332030)

- LP bugs closed:
- 1568: nut takes too long to start
- 221737: upsd doesn't start on system startup
- 239025: usbhid-ups not behaving with Tripplite UPS
- 278495: megatec_usb does'nt detect ups
- 332030: [sync request] Please sync nut 2.4.1 from Debian unstable (main)
- 332032: nut wrongly install nut-cgi's config files

- remaining diffs with Debian
  * debian/control:
- Update maintainer field as per spec.
(The below ones only need to be uncommented in the matching file...)
- Add Breaks to ensure we have correct udev version.
  * debian/{nut-cgi,nut}.postinst: add nut to the dialout
and nut groups unconditionally, to handle the upgrade from the hardy
release.
  * debian/rules: pre merge the changes for Ubuntu (udev path and version),

* Any additional information which would be helpful in considering the decision
--
- ChangeLog can be found here:
http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/nut/tags/v2.4.1/ChangeLog?op=filerev=0sc=0

- jaunty pbuilder log is attached in the archive
(nut_2.4.1-2_i386.build)

- install log (clean test in pbuilder chroot) are also attached with the
following tests:
- jaunty: fresh install and update from 2.2.2-10ubuntu3 to 2.4.1-2 of a
running configuration (jaunty-{fresh,upgrade}.install)
- intrepid: update from 2.2.2-6ubuntu1 to 2.4.1-2
(intrepid-update.install)
- hardy: not considered since jaunty is not an LTS (?) so there is no
interest in testing 2.2.1-2.1ubuntu7.2 upgrade

The validation were:
- check that the install or update goes smoothly, without warning or errors,
- check that the previous configuration has been migrated from /etc/default/nut
to /etc/nut/nut.conf in case of upgrade
- check that the resulting configuration runs the same way and is still working
in case of upgrade (ie the same daemons restarted successfully)
- check that the user is warned that nut has to be configured in case of fresh
install (#221737)
All this has been done with a bare config (see the attached nut-config.txt),
using the dummy-ups driver

Re: [Bug 332338] Re: package samba 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3.4 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2009-02-25 Thread David
Hi Thierry,

After I initially encountered that problem I realized what the problem might
have been. I had assumed that completely removing and reinstalling samba
would restore a default smb.conf, but I don't think it did, and I think that
might have been why it failed. Is that the case? I think I manually
deleted smb.conf and possibly the entire /etc/samba directory. Would that
cause that problem?

Anyway, I realized after I reinstalled samba and got that error, that it
didn't recreate that file and/or directory, so I manually re-created it and
got a smb.conf from another machine that still had the default one, and
after that it worked fine.

Perhaps the bug if there is any, is that the package should purge the
smb.conf and re-install a default smb.conf when it is re-installed? I'm
not sure... I'm really new to samba. I just submitted the bug report
because it guided me to do it.

Let me know if you still would like me to do the proceedure you asked me to
do. I'd be glad to do it, but yeah, I'm pretty sure it was because I
manually deleted smb.conf, etc.

Thanks for looking into this,

-David

[Bug 211631] Re: CIFS/SMBFS shares not unmounted before network is shut down

2009-02-25 Thread James
This bug is causing usplash to crap-out on shutdown and display a nice screen
of vertical coloured lines, as reported in this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/usplash/+bug/301628

usplash shows the coloured lines at exactly the same time as the CIFS
error messages are shown in shutdown.

Taking splash out of the kernel boot line in the grub list file removes
the graphical element of shutdown/startup and causes the CIFS error line
to appear (rather than being hidden by usplash) - It doesn't fix this
bug but at least the risk of damage to my screen is reduced.

[Bug 282825] Re: winbindd stops and takes up 60%-100% CPU

I usually see two winbind processes maxing out the CPU between them.

This repeats until the process drops back to normal CPU usage.

Also, I can provide developers SSH access to the box if needed for
debugging.

[Bug 217159] Re: slapd + gnutls fails

2009-02-25 Thread elvis
I am also having problems with Hardy slapd 2.4.9-0ubuntu0.8.04.2 and
TLS.

It seems OpenLDAP on Hardy is now compiled against GnuTLS, and not
OpenSSL as it was in old versions.

I've created x509 certificates and signed them against our company CA.
These work perfectly for Apache on Hardy (adding the CA cert to by
browser shows connection to Apache as working and verified).

Experiments with gnutls-cli show the following:

1) Connecting to Apache on port 443 shows TLS success, connected via TLS 1.0:
Processed 1 CA certificate(s).
Processed 1 client certificates...
Processed 1 client X.509 certificates...
Resolving '***'...
Connecting to '10.1.2.100:443'...
- Certificate type: X.509
 - Got a certificate list of 2 certificates.

 - Certificate[0] info:
 # The hostname in the certificate matches '***'.
 # valid since: Fri Feb 6 14:36:14 EST 2009
 # expires at: Sun Feb 6 14:36:14 EST 2011
 # fingerprint: 7E:C2:AF:1B:75:7A:CB:0F:17:A6:10:8C:8B:1C:52:2B
 # Subject's DN: ***
 # Issuer's DN: ***

 - Certificate[1] info:
 # valid since: Tue Dec 5 13:42:33 EST 2006
 # expires at: Mon Dec 5 13:49:02 EST 2011
 # fingerprint: D5:63:08:F0:9C:E2:BB:47:35:EF:06:15:EF:54:DA:D8
 # Subject's DN: ***
 # Issuer's DN: ***

- Peer's certificate is trusted
- Version: TLS 1.0
- Key Exchange: DHE RSA
- Cipher: AES 256 CBC
- MAC: SHA
- Compression: DEFLATE
- Handshake was completed

2) Connection to gnutls-serv on port 5556 shows TLS success, connected via TLS
1.1
Processed 1 CA certificate(s).
Processed 1 client certificates...
Processed 1 client X.509 certificates...
Resolving '***'...

3) Connection to slapd on ldaps:// port 636 shows:
Processed 1 CA certificate(s).
Processed 1 client certificates...
Processed 1 client X.509 certificates...
Resolving '***'...
Connecting to '10.1.2.100:636'...
*** Fatal error: A TLS packet with unexpected length was received.
*** Handshake has failed
GNUTLS ERROR: A TLS packet with unexpected length was received.

Using ldapsearch on plain-text ldap:/// port 389 works fine. ldapsearch on
ldaps:/// returns errors. Running slapd in debug mode shows various errors,
including similar TLS packet of unexpected length errors:

client: ldapsearch -x -H ldaps://localhost:636 -D *** -w ***

server:
 slap_listener(ldaps:///)
connection_get(13): got connid=1
connection_read(13): checking for input on id=1
connection_read(13): TLS accept failure error=-1 id=1, closing
connection_closing: readying conn=1 sd=13 for close
connection_close: conn=1 sd=13

[Bug 332338] Re: package samba 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3.4 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2009-02-25 Thread Thierry Carrez
David: yes, that would explain it. Manually deleting the smb.conf file after a
removal, and then trying to reinstall the package, would fail. the proper way
is to apt-get purge the package (which gets rid of smb.conf) before
reinstalling.
That said, this behavior is confusing and cause of several bugs, so we should
certainly find a way of being a little more tolerant to that special case.
I'll close this bug as Invalid but might open another one (wishlist item) on
how to fail more gracefully in that case.
Many thanks for your help !
