[Bug 397699] Re: [jaunty] samba 3.3.2 denies access to roaming profiles

2009-07-28 Thread Thierry Carrez
Thanks Mark for this invaluable testing ! We might need your help again
to test jaunty-proposed packages, as it's a non-trivial setup to test :)

Marking this fixed in development release (as 3.4.x contains the fix),
and nominating for a Jaunty SRU.

[Bug 398428] Re: folder sharing not working without reboot

2009-07-28 Thread Thierry Carrez
David: in your testing, do you log in on your Linux system after the
restart, or do you directly test under Windows XP for share access ?
If not, this probably fails because the user's password isn't migrated
to smbpass yet.

Here is how it should work : installing share support also installs
libpam-smbpass. This PAM library ensures that user passwords are synced
to the samba password tdb when the user logs in (or changes passwords).
Until the user password is migrated the share will fail to authenticate
you. When you restart the session, two things (should) happen: the
user gets the rights to setup a share (gets the usershare group rights)
and when the user logs in his password gets migrated. So you should
actually restart *and* log in again for the share to work.

[Bug 404321] Re: gnome-screensaver should allow screen unlock even if account is locked out

2009-07-28 Thread Thierry Carrez
Well, it's not totally unusable since you can still switch to another
user. And there should be other users available if you're under a domain
setup. The whole account locking AD feature is buggy, since every
large AD domain user knows they can easily lock out someone else's
account.

I guess in the end it all depends on how being locked out translates,
since I can imagine a bug asking for the complete contrary of what
you're asking.

In that discussion, it might be worth considering that Microsoft does
not apply lockout policy to the screen unlock dialog:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/188700

Maybe gnome-screensaver's unlock screen dialog could be taught to
recognize a specific locked error code, but I'm far from convinced we
should do that.

[Bug 404321] Re: gnome-screensaver should allow screen unlock even if account is locked out

2009-07-28 Thread Alex Mauer
It's totally unusable to me, since I only have one AD account so
switching to another user isn't really viable.

Obviously there's the workaround of going to a console session as root
and killing gnome-screensaver, but that's just silly in my opinion.

Interesting that the microsoft support link doesn't give a rationale
either way for this policy. It would probably be good to have it as a
configurable option though, rather than forcing it to work one way or
the other.

Wouldn't a locked account result in a successful pam auth, but
unsuccessful pam account result, rather than checking for a specific
error code?

Status in “samba” package in Ubuntu: Invalid

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: samba

I maintain 2 networks with mixed ubuntu / Windows XP SP2 machines and this
problem started suddenly in September of 2008. All of my Ubuntu machines
whether they are clean installs of 8.04 or 8.10 or 9.04, 32 or 64 bit or
upgrades from earlier versions all exhibit the failure to display or browse
smb shares. The only fix is to edit etc/samba/smb.conf:
 # What naming service and in what order should we use to resolve host names
 # to IP addresses
; name resolve order = lmhosts host wins bcast

remove the leading ; from the name resolve order line and change the order
 of the entries to read:
name resolve order = lmhosts wins bcast host

Save the file, log off and back on.

This change fixes the problem for all my machine in both networks.
The problem remains unresolved in Jaunty unless I do this. This problem
appeared suddenly in September of 2008 on 8.04 machines that had been
working normally and has persisted through 8.10 and now 9.04.

Clicking on the Places Network to bring up the network browse gui will
take a fairly long time to appear and it will not display any of the
machines on the network, whether Ubuntu or Windows XP. It may display an
icon for Windows Network, but if that is clicked, the system times out
with nothing displayed after about 60 seconds.

This happens on all machines whether clean installs or upgrades with 8.04,
8.10 and 9.04, both 32 And 64 bit. IT also does not matter if the Ubuntu
machines are static IP or DHCP.

After editing the smb.conf file as noted above, the network gui works
quickly and as expected displays all shares on all Windows XP and Ubuntu
 machines on the local network.

Additional info: until I found the fix noted here, I installed the kde 3.x
network browser. I forget the name of the package, but that worked
instantly. Once I got gnome working, I uninstalled it. I have not had to
do this on the new 9.04 installs, I just edit smb.conf and everything works
 as expected.

[Bug 406171] [NEW] COUNTER64 broken in NetSNMP::agent

2009-07-28 Thread dermoth
Public bug reported:

Trying to use COUNTER64 in NetSNMP::agent doesn't work. This is a long-
standing bug that has been fixed in SVN for 5.2.x, 5.3.x, 5.4.x and
trunk last year.

I noticed this bug a while ago (it was already reported to net-snmp) and
worked around it by using normal counters. Now it's fixed I'd like to
use them to test some counter-specific functions. It would be awesome if
the patch could get trough normal updates.

Note that Perl do not support 64bit integers (long long in C) out of
the box, but Math::Int64 do and the value can be safely passed to
NetSNMP::agent as a string.

See:
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detailaid=2022948group_id=12694atid=312694
http://net-snmp.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/net-snmp?view=revrevision=17246

I attached the patch for the 5.4.x branch from SVN - from this URL:
