[Bug 315591] [NEW] LD_LIBRARY_PATH set in ~/.profile doesn't stick

2009-07-29 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: gdm

/etg/gdm/Xsession sources ~/.profile, which I've been relying on to
allow locally built and installed applications to run from the GNOME
menus and GUI environemnt.

the PATH environment variable is being set and preserved correctly,
however as of updates today (9th Jan 2008), the LD_LIBRARY_PATH is not
being retained through to the desktop session.

I'm not entirely sure if gdm is to blame for this or not, but it seemed
a likely place to start looking.

[Bug 406303] [NEW] Compiled zip support in PHP 5.2.4 64bit can't open archives with large number of files.

2009-07-29 Thread ScHRiLL
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: php5

There is a problem with the compiled zip support in PHP5 package ver. 5.2.4
that comes with Ubuntu 8.04 LTS 64 bit. When php opens archives with large
number of files it throws an error. This is a confirmed php5 bug and it effects
all 64bit operating system that have php5 ver. 5.2.4 and because this is an LTS
version it should be patched.
- To check if this affecting you try this script
Reproduce code:
---
#!/bin/sh
rm -rf test1 test2 test1.zip test2.zip
mkdir test1 test2
cd test1
php -r 'for ($i = 1; $i  800; $i++) system(touch test$i.txt);'
cd ../
zip -r test1.zip test1  /dev/null
php -r '$zip = new ZipArchive(); var_dump($zip-open(test1.zip));
var_dump($zip-numFiles);'

cd test2
php -r 'for ($i = 1; $i  876; $i++) system(touch test$i.txt);'
cd ../
zip -r test2.zip test2  /dev/null
php -r '$zip = new ZipArchive(); var_dump($zip-open(test2.zip));
var_dump($zip-numFiles);'

Expected result:

[...@sw-nbk01 zip]$ sh ./zip.sh
bool(true)
int(800)
bool(true)
int(876)

Actual result:
--
[...@www zip]$ sh ./zip.sh
bool(true)
int(800)
int(5)
int(0)

[Bug 211631] Re: Network is brought down before network filesystems are unmounted (CIFS timeout at shutdown)

2009-07-29 Thread Harry
I am facing this issue on intrepid and jaunty using wired connection (with NM
in system mode).
Even before reading this thread I went through moving S31umountnfs.sh up in the
rc0/6 scripts in order to find the critical tip. For me this was S20sendsigs
(as described by Thierry), i.e. S19umountnfs.sh solved it, S21umountnfs.sh
broke it (so there was no need to put it before S15wpa-ifupdown). Ppl using
wireless should check this for S15wpa-ifupdown, as well.

[Bug 406360] Re: menu no longer displays add/remove applications

2009-07-29 Thread Thierry Carrez
This option is only displayed to users who actually can add/remove
applications, which are not everyday users, but rather admin users.

Logging in with a random AD user, he is probably not listed as an admin,
so he doesn't have this option.

This is not a likewise-open bug as you experience the same behavior if
you create a non-admin user and switch to it, without likewise-open
involved.

[Bug 205996] Re: ServerTokens Full in apache2.conf (security risk?)

2009-07-29 Thread Caspar Clemens Mierau
Actually Full ServerTokens enable automated worm spreading due to
detailed application version scanning. The point is: There is absolutely
no need to display Full Server Tokens by default as you don't gain any
user experience, better server handling or similar features from that
setting. So the argument that most attacks deal with broken application
is no reason for leaking information that actually don't *need* to be
published.

Besides that, /etc/apache2/conf.d/security also has TraceEnable On by
default, also making no sense, as this is a debugging setting and
already had specific 0day exploits.

So from a server administrators point of view:

Please consider configuring Apache2 more secure by setting ServerTokens
at least to Minor and TraceEnable Off.

Just for your information a list of differences in the ServerTokens settings:

  ServerTokens Prod[uctOnly]

Server sends (e.g.): Server: Apache

ServerTokens Major

Server sends (e.g.): Server: Apache/2

ServerTokens Minor

Server sends (e.g.): Server: Apache/2.0

ServerTokens Min[imal]

Server sends (e.g.): Server: Apache/2.0.41

ServerTokens OS

Server sends (e.g.): Server: Apache/2.0.41 (Unix)

ServerTokens Full (or not specified)

Server sends (e.g.): Server: Apache/2.0.41 (Unix) PHP/4.2.2 MyMod/1.2

This setting applies to the entire server, and cannot be enabled or
disabled on a virtualhost-by-virtualhost basis.

did a local build of munin-node 1.2.6-12ubuntu1, and it still contains
this bug.

Anyway, this problem can be fixed by editing debian/munin-node.postinst
and move the two invoke-rc.d munin-node restart, located inside the
init_plugins() function. I'll upload a debdiff once the current build
issue is resolved.

[Bug 406581] [NEW] package libdns45 1:9.5.1.dfsg.P2-1 failed to install/upgrade: corrupted filesystem tarfile - corrupted package archive

2009-07-29 Thread Ian Enticott
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bind9

Update Manager nearly always fails to install several packages with a
report about the var/cache/apt/ files being corrupted - sometimes when
trying to report the bug it tells me it is not a genuine ubuntu package.
I have had this problem ever since I got a new computer last week and
did a fresh install of 9.04

[Bug 39249] Re: (Dapper, Hardy) can't create /var/lib/dhcp3/dhclient.eth0.leases: Permission denied

2009-07-29 Thread martinbures
I am having the exact same problem with a fresh install of 9.04.
Everything worked fine for me with 8.04.3...

I have 2 NICs - one facing the world and one for embedded linux
development - eth1

I installed dhcp3-server

So I have configured eth1 as:
mar...@adserver2:/var/run$ ifconfig eth1
eth1  Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:01:03:dd:97:fd
  inet addr:10.0.0.1  Bcast:10.255.255.255  Mask:255.0.0.0
  inet6 addr: fe80::201:3ff:fedd:97fd/64 Scope:Link
  UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
  RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
  TX packets:56 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
  collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
  RX bytes:0 (0.0 B)  TX bytes:9624 (9.6 KB)
  Interrupt:22 Base address:0xef80

Next, I edited the file /etc/dhcp3/dhcpd.conf and added this at the end:

subnet 10.0.0.0 netmask 255.0.0.0 {
range 10.0.0.20 10.0.0.30;
host tsboard{
}
}

In 8.04, the command:
sudo dhcpd3 -d eth1 would then bring up dhcp on that interface and all was good.

In 9.04, the same command results in:
mar...@adserver2:/var/run$ sudo dhcpd3 -d eth1

Any thoughts?  Thanks.

[Bug 406263] Re: Please merge openipmi 2.0.16-1(main) from debian unstable(main)

2009-07-29 Thread Sebastien Bacher
thank you for your work there but how do decide what to update, you seem
to work on a lot of updates but there is a reason the autosyncs are
stopped that's not to play catching up manually now but to focus on
stabilization, is there any change worth having there?

[Bug 363931] Re: Please remove the .cmd files in bin

2009-07-29 Thread Ville Aine
I don't think 1.3.36506-0ubuntu2 really fixes the bug:

  $ dpkg -l|grep ec2-api-tools
  ii  ec2-api-tools
1.3.36506-0ubuntu2Amazon EC2 API tools
  $ dpkg -L ec2-api-tools|grep \\.cmd$|head -5
  /usr/bin/ec2assocaddr.cmd
  /usr/bin/ec2-migrate-image.cmd
  /usr/bin/ec2daddr.cmd
  /usr/bin/ec2gpass.cmd
  /usr/bin/ec2-purchase-reserved-instances-offering.cmd

The problem appears to be that the install/ec2-api-tools rule in debian/rules
is run before dh_install.
CDBS provides binary-post-install/* rule for doing stuff after dh_install and
friends, and using that
seems to work (see the attached patch).

** Attachment added: Use binary-post-install/ec2-api-tools instead of
install/ec2-api-tools
