[...] First, install the OpenLDAP server daemon slapd and ldap-utils, a
package containing LDAP management utilities:
sudo apt-get install slapd ldap-utils
The installation process will prompt you for the LDAP directory admin password
and confirmation. [...]

[...] If you require a different suffix, the directory can be reconfigured
using dpkg-reconfigure. Enter the following in a terminal prompt:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure slapd
You will then be taken through a menu based configuration dialog, allowing you

Okay, I thought ufw was enable during the samba installed. I did not install or
activate it manual.
I think it would be to hard to figure out why it was enabled on my system.
I second, that a firewall should not open any ports automatically without user
interaction.
If samba does not activate ufw by default. I agree - we don't have a bug here

[Bug 377216] Re: amavisd-new fails to block viruses with backup scanner (clamscan)

2009-11-04 Thread Imre Gergely
This also affects Jaunty and Intrepid, maybe it should be fixed there
also. One could argue that the following could be a real scenario:

- one installs MTA + amavis + clamav (with clamav-daemon because it's faster,
and clamscan because it can be run manually whenever needed)
- primary AV scanner thus would be clamav-daemon and secondary would be
clamscan (with the bug)
- clamav-daemon could go down for any number of reasons, and for the infected
emails to not get through the backup AV should kick in and catch them.

[Bug 404394] Re: qcow2 corruption regression

2009-11-04 Thread Dustin Kirkland
Okay, this problem is caused by the upstream git commit that we cherry picked:
  qcow2-corruption-Fix-alloc_cluster_link_l2-Kevin-W.patch
  641636d19e3d8eeb8fac31e20641eaf33befd6e7

It was fixed upstream by
  Fix-cluster-freeing-in-qcow2.patch
  d4d698f020e50333d6eae48ce323752613b5c3ea

We need to cherry pick and apply that commit to our Jaunty package, as
well as the kvm-84 that lives in hardy-backports and intrepid-backports.

I'm attaching the debdiff here, and uploading to jaunty-proposed.

[Bug 474660] [NEW] drbd8-utils not dependent on drbd8-source

2009-11-04 Thread Mike Shappell
Public bug reported:

The current drbd8-utils package has a dependency on the drbd8-source
package. While I understand that the source package has been modified
to build a DKMS module for the kernel, and the dependency ensures that a
current (matching) kernel module is always built for the running kernel,
I do not believe that this step is necessary.

Since the drbd.ko module is built and included with the kernel by
default, the need to build a matching module is not necessary. When the
kernel is upgraded, the new module will automatically be included. I
did not dig too far into the packages, but I believe that the existing
drbd8-utils package is a binary package that is not rebuilt, so having
the source does not ensure the utils are a match to the built kernel
module anyway. Therefore, the dependency on drbd8-source should be
removed from the drbd8-utils package.

The plan was to get rid of the drbd.ko module in the kernel package and use
DKMS instead. So the dependency is correct - the kernel package should not ship
the drbd module anymore.

[Bug 462172] Re: samba Too many files are currently in use.

2009-11-04 Thread Kai Giebeler
I receive the same problem:
Copying a few thousand files from a Samba-share (Ubuntu 9.10, Samba 3.4.0) to
Windows 7-Client (Ultimate x64) produces the error message mentioned above
after a few seconds. It's a Windows Dialog. The exact Message is:
Too many Files are currently in use. Quit one or more programs, and then try
again.
I can choose between [Try again], [Skip] and [Cancel]

Waiting a few seconds and then choosing [Try again] copies a few more
files until the message reappears. the longer I wait the longer it
copies without interruption.

Executing the command metioned above results in
fs.file-max = 196754
That's 10 times bigger than the total amount of files to be copied.

One thing I noticed:
sudo smbstatus
shows only two open files while idling but about 1013 open files in the moment
when the message appears. While the dialog is open, the list shrinks
continuously. After a few seconds it's nearly empty again.

I didn't notice the problem on Ubuntu 9.04 using Windows XP Professional
32-Bit as client.

A simple manual copy using the Windows GUI is basically possible, but
other tools consuming a big amount of shared files seem to be unable to
handle the exception properly (e.g. 7-zip crashes completely).

It seems that Samba doesn't close opened files fast enough. I cannot
decide whether Windows forgets to close the files properly or Samba
ignores the close event.

An (obfuscated) example line of an opened file in smbstatus:
1920 1000 DENY_WRITE 0x20089 RDONLY EXCLUSIVE+BATCH
/home/me My Files/my file.txt Wed Nov 4 21:42:44 2009

It's a big problem for me since I'm totally unable to work with projects
persisting of 1000+ files.
The problem can be permanently reproduced in my case (1 GB/s LAN). Network load
is around 1 % except for some 20 % peaks. The test project consists of many
small text files (source code).

If there's any more information I can provide to solve this problem,
please let me know.

Kind regards

Kai

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: nautilus

We are using Ubuntu 9.10 and Nautilus 2.28.1

Nov, 04, 2009

After recently updating to Ubuntu 9.1 the Public folder file sharing
with an iMac running OS-X.5.8 worked perfectly. We moved files back and
forth constantly with no problem. However after running Ubuntu's Update
Manager yesterday it stopped working. We always update files the Update
Manager suggests. The Mac's Public folder seems to connect however none
of the file in the public folder appear. When we try to copy a file from
the Ubuntu machine to the Mac it returns an error that Operation not
supported by backend.

We also noticed that after selecting the share from the list the Label
reads: Windows Shares on iMac. Windows shares were never mentioned
before.

We have not changed anything on the network or iMac side. Did something
change with the Nautilus network file sharing within the last few days?

[Bug 404394] Re: kvm-84: virtio on qcow2 broken (regression)

2009-11-04 Thread Mathias Gug
Tested the hardy-backport patch and it fixes my issue. I can now run
successful installs of karmic under a qcow2+virtio guest while the
current version of kvm in hardy-backport fails.

[Bug 260396] Re: cifs.mount: mapchars + utf8 = loop

2009-11-04 Thread Paillomams
This issue is still present in karmic. Mount a cifs volume with mapchars
an utf8 as option. Create a folder with a name that has a character that
include an accent (ex:Vidéos). Then create a folder or a file inside
this one close the nautilus window and try to access the newly create
file or folder. They won't be there. It is also not possible to delete
the folder (or a file) with a name containing an accent.

[Bug 434799] Re: X11 forwarding via SSH does not work after upgrade to karmic

2009-11-04 Thread edvar
I'm having the exact same problem after upgrading to Karmic. I've used
Ubuntu since Feisty and this is the first time I ever experienced
problems with X forwarding on SSH. It worked fine on Jaunty. Basically
I'm experiencing the same issues as reported:

[Bug 434799] Re: X11 forwarding via SSH does not work after upgrade to karmic

2009-11-04 Thread edvar
Forgot to mention the loopback address is properly configured on my box:

$ ifconfig lo
loLink encap:Local Loopback
  inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0
  UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1
  RX packets:139234 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
  TX packets:139234 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
  collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
  RX bytes:6975042 (6.9 MB) TX bytes:6975042 (6.9 MB)

I found some links on Google related to the Failed to allocate
internet-domain X11 display socket error on Solaris machines and they
were all related to missing IP configuration on the loopbak interface.
So clearly this is not the cause here...

[Bug 370877] Re: package chkrootkit 0.48-5 failed to install/upgrade: short read in buffer_copy (backend dpkg-deb during `./usr/lib/chkrootkit/strings-static')

2009-11-04 Thread Brian Murray
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue. If so please set the bug's status to Invalid. Thanks in
advance!

[Bug 474969] [NEW] Documentation error: hostfwd syntax wrong

2009-11-04 Thread Muelli
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: qemu-kvm

The manpage is wrong. Currently it reads
To redirect telnet connections from host port to telnet
port on the guest, use the following:

   # on the host
   qemu -net user,hostfwd=tcp:::23 [...]
   telnet localhost

but the correct syntax is -net user,hostfwd=tcp::2223-:22

Also, the documentation should mention that you *need* a -net nic for a
-net user. That took me hours to figure out.

[Bug 474968] [NEW] kvm smb server hogs cpu guest freeze

2009-11-04 Thread Muelli
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: qemu-kvm

kvm hogs the CPU reproducibly. I installed an Ubuntu using KVM. I run
the machine with -net nic,model=rtl8139,macaddr=f0:00:BA:12:34:56 -net
user,hostfwd=tcp::2223-:22,smb=/tmp/share, sshed into the machine and
typed telnet 10.0.2.4 139 to try whether the SMB server works. KVM
