[Bug 494476] Re: Samba blocked for more than 120 seconds.

2009-12-11 Thread Okkulter
hi there,

here are two new tasks blocking for more than 120 seconds. but this time the
task kjournald2 followed dy rsync are affected. this happens when i tried
to copy from one ext4 volume to an other with rsync.
So its not samba - specific as i assumed at first let me say it seems to be a
problem with ext4.

Since i converted two of my volumes from ext3 to ext4 in the last week i got
this problems.
So i have to go back to ext3 to avoid loosing of data.

[Bug 495394] [NEW] autostart almost always fails on boot time host

2009-12-11 Thread Heiko Harders
Public bug reported:

host OS:
lsb_release -rd:
1. Release of Ubuntu:
Description:Ubuntu 9.10
Release:9.10
Linux 2.6.31-16-generic #53-Ubuntu SMP Tue Dec 8 04:02:15 UTC 2009 x86_64
GNU/Linux

2. Version of package:
apt-cache policy libvirt-bin
libvirt-bin:
  Installed: 0.7.0-1ubuntu13.1
  Candidate: 0.7.0-1ubuntu13.1
  Version table:
 *** 0.7.0-1ubuntu13.1 0

100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 0.7.0-1ubuntu13 0
500 http://nl.archive.ubuntu.com karmic/main Packages

3. What I expected to happen:
Domains that are marked `autostart' should be running after the host was booted.

4. What happened instead:
- auto starting domains mostly fails when booting the host OS (Ubuntu 9.10)
- auto starting the same domains does work when using Ubuntu 8.04.3 LTS or
Ubuntu 9.04 as host OS
- auto starting the same domains does work when invoking
`/etc/init.d/libvirt-bin restart'

Libvirtd is running.
There are symlinks in /etc/libvirt/qemu/autostart.

Mostly none of my domains are running, however sometimes a domain
succeeds and is booted (say 1 in 10 attempts a domain succeeds to boot
during the host boot process). When, after booting the host, I run
`/etc/init.d/libvirt-bin restart' all of my domains are coming up as
expected. Autostart works for all domains while using Ubuntu 8.04.3 LTS
or Ubuntu 9.04 as host OS.

I'm using Ubuntu 9.04 and 9.10 guest OS'es. Some of them were created
under Ubuntu 9.04 and some of them were created on Ubuntu 9.10. Most of
the domains are installed on a LVM, but I also tried creating a file
based virtual machine that is located on the boot device of the host OS.
There is no difference between these domains, all of them are booted
only very sporadicly while booting the host OS.

All domains are using a bridge device that I specified myself, and using
static IP addresses. I removed the default network created by libvirt,
because I don't use it (however: before I deleted that, autostart didn't
work either). The bridge device works properly, I can log in my virtual
machines via ssh and I use the bridge as well to talk to the internal
network.

I tried setting the bug logging level in `/etc/libvirt/libvirt.conf' to
1, but I don't see anything in the files in `/var/log' that explains why
my domains are not auto-starting during boot time of the host OS (or at
least, nothing that I recognize).

If there is anything else I could try, or any other information I should
provide, please let me know.

[Bug 495394] Re: autostart almost always fails on boot time host

2009-12-11 Thread Heiko Harders
Just rebooted the host, which started checking the file system.
Thereafter all domains seemed to be up. Unsure whether this was
coincidence (can't remember seeing all domains up after a reboot
before), or whether the extra boot time somehow caused the domains to
come up as expected.

[Bug 495418] [NEW] Enable GSSAPI support (for likewise-open)

2009-12-11 Thread Thierry Carrez
Public bug reported:

Proposed patch does two things:

(a) Adds the --with-gssapi autoconf option necessary to
enable code in libraries/libldap/gssapi.c (i.e #define HAVE_GSSAPI).
This option was present in 2.4.16 from what I can tell but is not in the 2.4.18
code in
lucid.

(b) Makes guess_service_principal() more robust when trying
to determine what principal name to use (based on the hostname
or dns name) when binding to a server.

Binary package hint: samba

Tried to restart but eventually did a recovery reboot. This went to
command line, asked to restart. I'm ashamed to say that I cannot
remember the root password, so forced computer shutdown on power

message briefly to the effect that an upgrade had failed, this led me
down the path to Launchpad. Hopefully the data collected tells you which
package failed.

Looking at the reported detail above reminds me that on recovery the
error to winbind occurred, is probably not the cause of the original
problem.

[Bug 495424] Re: Ran automatic updates. Left system for a while, on return it had tried to reboot hung, had to recover

2009-12-11 Thread Norman Crabbe
More information:- This all started last night when I saw a warning
triangle in the top panel. I clicked on it, this caused update manager
to run - this was not an automatic update notification as I originally
described. I think the update manager then gave a long list of (greyed
out) applications - I really don't remember whether the list came up
first or after I asked it to check. I then requested install and then I
left the system for a while.

I have now rediscovered sudo su.

[Bug 490683] Re: package libsnmp-base 5.4.2.1~dfsg-3ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script killed by signal (Interrupt)

2009-12-11 Thread Steffen Neumann
I object that this is a duplicate of #490843 Confusing debconf question:
here two people report that they'd hit Ctrl-C after a perceived freeze
of the upgrade/installation.

My lucid-alpha1 installation is sitting at libsnmp-base for 30 minutes now,
and only a ps on a second console showed that is was wget'ting RFCs.

1) This bug implies that we need some kind of progress bar here.

2) Or even better handle this task at a later stage (don't ask me how),
because lycid reviews will be writing how long the installation takes,
where (I guess) 5/4 of the time are spent in libsmnp-base.

Yours,
Steffen

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make

not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

[Bug 495505] [NEW] server.number reports 6.0.0.0 not 6.0.X.0

I've verified that the upstream patch, on top of the patch we've

problem; the test was to run the CC/NC against patched rampart/c for
approximately 18 hours, watching the memory footprint of the associated
apache2 processes.

[Bug 194140] Re: Dependency cycle prevents upgrade of libsasl2-2

2009-12-11 Thread Steve Langasek
AIUI, apt is meant to only balk about immediate configuration for
packages that are essential or are dependencies of apt. libsasl2-2 is
neither in the Ubuntu archive - do you know what modified packages you
might have on your system that would cause apt to treat libsasl2-2 as
essential?

Anyway, if this were reproducible in the official archive, I think
everyone would be seeing it... since they aren't, I'm pretty sure this
is a local issue, not a bug in the package. Closing as invalid.

(It happens that this issue should go away for you in the next upload of
cyrus-sasl2, because libsasl2-2 will no longer depend on
libsasl2-modules. However, the circular dependency is not the bug
here.)

[Bug 444926] Re: samba and smbfs depend on an old version of samba-common

2009-12-11 Thread Gilles
I am having the same problem on Karmic (Mythbuntu 9.10 more exactly).

The version numbers are slightly different but the issue is the same
(the SMBFS package wants a Samba common 2:3.4.0-3ubuntu5 whilst a
2:3.4.0-3ubuntu5.1 is installed.

I only use the standard main, universe and multiverse.

I wonder if samba common was updated via some security update but that
the other stuff like smbfs and smbclient was not (and perhaps if I had
installed smbfs before the security update then it would have worked and
got the correct library?).

[Bug 444926] Re: samba and smbfs depend on an old version of samba-common

2009-12-11 Thread Gilles
I was able to fix my problem by forcing samba and samba-common back to 5
(instead of 5.1). I was then able to install smbfs and it is currently
working fine.

Still, I suspect there must be a problem somewhere in the Ubuntu
repository as, ideally, it would be preferable if simple users like me
did not have to force a downgrade of the core samba server...

Suggested friendlier message:

#
To work as expected, this package needs download and extract additional
configuration files (MIBs from RFCs and IANA).

This can be done automatically as part of the installation process, but
it will take several minutes to complete, even with a fast internet
connection.

Do you want to download and extract these additional files?
