Re: [Bug 510086] Re: localhost connection timeouts after start of eucalyptus

2010-01-30 Thread Stephane Chazelas
2010-01-30 02:37:08 -, Daniel Nurmi:
[...]
 I'm unable to reproduce this problem with (pre) Eucalyptus 1.6.2; with a
 running active CC in MANAGED mode (which has the masq rule in place), I
 can telnet to localhost port 22 (for example) without a problem, and
 sshing to localhost shows that I'm logged in from 'localhost' (implying
 that there is no nat going on).
[...]

Hi Daniel,

the thing is, it's for ports where there's no listener that
there's problem. Obviously, you've got a listener here as you
managed to ssh.

Try: telnet localhost 2
for instance (assuming you've got no service on port 2), you'll
see telnet hanging instead of returning with a connection
refused error message (that is, if you can reproduce the bug,
but I'm quite confident that it's easily reproducible as it
happened after a fresh install of Ubuntu Cloud with default
parameters)

Best regards,
Stephane

[Bug 491955] Re: remote crash via ssh kills local machine

2010-01-30 Thread Colin Watson
How are you connecting to the other machine? If it's by ssh in a
terminal, then this might be openssh's fault (although I have precisely
no idea how; this just doesn't fit any reasonable model of how ssh works
...). However, I think it's more likely that you're using some KDE
feature for connecting to other machines using the SSH protocol. The
kioslave for sftp uses libssh rather than openssh, and in any case it
seems likely that this would be a bug somewhere in the KIO subsystem in
this case.

[Bug 134274] Re: TCP_DEFER_ACCEPT causes random HTTP connection failures in load-balanced web-server farms

2010-01-30 Thread Pierre GAUTHIER
When TCP_DEFER_ACCEPT is enabled on the listening socket:

- HTTP-Keep-Alive requests get a boost;

- non-HTTP-Keep-Alive requests are delayed after a while.

The problem happens with high concurrencies only.

This has been tested with various HTTP servers and is a consistant
behavior on Linux Ubuntu 8.1+.

The higher the value for TCP_DEFER_ACCEPT, the faster HTTP servers get
into trouble (when they receive ab connections without -k):

ab -t 100 -c900 http://a.b.c.d/100.html(a 100-byte file)

Anyone having a clue why this is happening?

(HTTP Keep-Alives being a persistant TCP connection, it is strange to see
TCP_DEFER_ACCEPT giving them a boost)
(inversely, non-HTTP Keep-Alives being new TCP connections, it is strange to
see TCP_DEFER_ACCEPT delaying them)

Thanks for any pointer.

2010-01-30 Thread Scott Moser
I'll point out, that at least in the lucid version of eucalyptus, there
is valid data stating where the ephemeral storage is in the metadata
service. So, if the image is set to query metadata service for the
ephemeral device, then this will work properly.

I know, its a layer of indirection, but it does work. bug 513842 has
more info (and an issue with that block-device-mapping that is
provided).

[Bug 514883] [NEW] dialog-based applications seem sluggish

2010-01-30 Thread AlainKnaff
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kvm

When running a dialog-based application (such as Ubuntu's text mode installer)
within kvm, it feels very sluggish. If I press cursor-down or up, it takes more
than a second until the highlighted bar moves up or down.
Typing text in a (dialog) text fields seems ok though.

This is _not_ a bug in the guest, as on a physical machine it is fast
and snappy. Moreover, if kvm is run in vnc mode, it is fast and snappy
as well

1.  lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 9.04
Release:9.04

2.  apt-cache policy kvm
kvm:
  Installed: 1:84+dfsg-0ubuntu12.4
  Candidate: 1:84+dfsg-0ubuntu12.4
  Version table:
 *** 1:84+dfsg-0ubuntu12.4 0

100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 1:84+dfsg-0ubuntu11 0
500 http://fr.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/main Packages

3. What I expect to happen

Kvm should react immediately at first cursor movement. If for some
reason (slow screen updates?), it should only start deferring or
dropping updates if the screen update queue already has some updates
being processed.

4. What happened instead

First screen refresh apparently was already delayed (maybe trying to
wait for more in order to batch them together?)

[Bug 514989] [NEW] PHP process output (?) that breaks bash completion

2010-01-30 Thread lexsimon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: php5

Hello,

I first tried to post : http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=8734334
and after recompiling from php.net sources, I'm now convinced there is
something wrong in patches that are applied or in some compilation
option.

Goal : complete the command line ./myscript.sh.
Steps :
- create die.php, completion.sh and myscript.sh in current folder using the
following code sample
- chmod 755 myscript.sh
- source completion.sh in current bash
- try to complete ./myscript.sh : it works
- uncomment die.php call in completion.sh
- source completion.sh again
- try to complete ./myscript.sh : it does not work. A simple call to php
process breaks the thing. Only with ubuntu PHP packages (tested on 8.04 and
9.10 releases ;

== die.php ==

?php
// Not so much ;)
die();

== completion.sh ==

#!/bin/bash

_completemyscript()
{
local cur cmds cmdOpts
cur=${COMP_WORDS[COMP_CWORD]}

# Normally, nothing should happened with this line
#php die.php  /tmp/somefile 21

# Static completion
COMPREPLY=( $( compgen -W a b c d -- ${cur} ) )
return 0
}

complete -F _completemyscript -o default myscript.sh

== myscript.sh ==

#!/bin/bash
echo Hello World
