I noticed the same issue WRT the dependency, thanks for actually filing a bug! [Bug 530400] Re: starting second kvm guest created using ubuntu-vm-builder fails with 'could not remove profile'
Well, I think I've tracked it down: The VM can't be started and virsh shows the above mentioned error when the qcow2 disk source file is located in /etc (at least when in /etc/libvirt/qemu or /etc/network). So the following snipplet in the XML file triggers the error: disk type='file' device='disk' source file='/etc/libvirt/qemu/infra01/disk0.qcow2'/ target dev='hda' bus='ide'/ /disk While something like disk type='file' device='disk' source file='/srv/cyt.ch/kvm/infra01/disk0.qcow2'/ target dev='hda' bus='ide'/ /disk works like a charm. Well, it's absolutely stupid to create disk files in /etc, I know. Was triggered by simply running ubuntu-vm-builder from those directories while not being fully awake... Well, in the end I think it's a sysadmins decision where to put those disk files. While /etc is really stupid, there might be some other places silently forbidden by apparmor. I think while some more bugs like this will be filed if there's no better error message... For this reason, I'm leaving this bug open, even though it could be considered invalid... Re: [Bug 429443] Re: /usr/bin/kvm-ok should be disassociated from kvm
kvm-ok used to be just a grep for vmx|svm of /proc/cpuinfo. Now, it performs a couple of additional checks. It will also check dmesg for a message about kvm being disabled in your bios, and look for /dev/kvm. The check for the bios message has been exceedingly useful to users, and we the maintainers trying to support users who's computer manufacturers arbitrarily disable kvm in their bios by default. Much of the documentation spread around the web simply says grep your cpuinfo for vmx|svm, but most of it neglects to say, oh, by the way, check your dmesg for a kvm disabled in bios message. This particular bug is really about moving /usr/bin/kvm-ok out of the qemu-kvm package and into some package the user will already have on their system when they're trying to decide if they can use kvm or not. The current mode is clearly suboptimal, which looks like: $ sudo apt-get install qemu-kvm $ kvm-ok || sudo apt-get purge qemu-kvm That's clearly silly. Whether a message ends up in MOTD, I care not. But I thought Kees' change set a precedent for giving friendly hints about cpu features which are disabled in BIOS. -- /usr/bin/kvm-ok should be disassociated from kvm https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/429443 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to qemu-kvm in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 515706] Re: qemu-kvm-extras-static sysctl.d settings remain active when package is removed but not purged
To be clear, in postinst I have: start procps and in postrm, on purge, I have: start procps This means that the /etc/sysctl.d tree gets applied after install (that's probably ok) and reapplied after purge which is a problem in two ways: - settings are still applied while the package isn't purged (but only removed); I think that's acceptable, even if not perfect - settings which were overriden by qemu-kvm-extra-static's /etc/sysctl.d/ config will only be reset if another file in /etc/sysctl.d also sets them; this is true for mmap minaddr for instance, but perhaps not for other settings such as vm.vdso_enabled on i386. -- qemu-kvm-extras-static sysctl.d settings remain active when package is removed but not purged https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/515706 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to qemu-kvm in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

I understand the usefulness of the information. This particular bug is really about moving /usr/bin/kvm-ok out of the qemu-kvm package and into some package the user will already have on their system when they're trying to decide if they can use kvm or not. Right. The current mode is clearly suboptimal, which looks like: $ sudo apt-get install qemu-kvm $ kvm-ok || sudo apt-get purge qemu-kvm That's clearly silly. No doubt. [Bug 530091] Re: [alpha3] NC fails to be detected.
I'm confirming this. I have a new UEC setup this morning from the current archive. CLC+WC+CC+SC, and 4xNC. The CLC was definitely up and running and serving the preseed.conf before the NCs were installed. The NCs installed correctly, and they have the CLC's ssh key in /var/lib/eucalyptus/.ssh/authorized_keys. But none of them are registering automatically. I think I've seen this quite a bit around Alpha3, and when I mentioned it, we chalked it up to preseed/netboot/timing issues. In any case, this is non ideal. Libvirt should use similar hack like in virt-manager (from previous RedHat's bugzilla report): we pass a shell script as the SSH command, and try to detect these incompatibilities. [Bug 530091] Re: [alpha3] NC fails to be detected.
I believe I've tracked down where this problem was introduced: http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-core- dev/eucalyptus/ubuntu/revision/909 My nodes don't have [ -f /etc/eucalyptus/eucalyptus-nc.conf ], so the publication job isn't starting. This is because the debconf key/value for eucalyptus/cluster-name does not exist on my NC. $ echo GET eucalyptus/cluster-name | sudo debconf-communicate And thus the eucalyptus-nc.postinst isn't able to populate that file. [Bug 527275] Re: package mysql-server-5.1 5.1.41-3ubuntu7 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script killed by signal (Interrupt)
I had the same problem. In my case, it seems that the cause was that apparmor was blocking mysql. I had to run sudo aa-complain mysql before I could finish the configuration. I do not remember ever enabling aa- enforce for mysql (or for anything else, in fact). Steps to reproduce: sudo aa-enforce mysql sudo apt-get install --reinstall mysql-server-5.1 Result: apt-get will stall at Preconfiguring packages ... Work-around: sudo aa-complain mysql sudo apt-get install --reinstall mysql-server-5.1 gives the expected result. -- package mysql-server-5.1 5.1.41-3ubuntu7 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script killed by signal (Interrupt) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/527275 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to mysql-dfsg-5.1 in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
