[Bug 723891] Re: package mailman 1:2.1.13-1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1
Kyle I've taken a look at the pre-installation script and it will fail with an exit status of 1 if any queue files in /var/lib/mailman/qfiles. I could re-produce this error message by creating a file in /var/lib/mailman/qfiles - I was then presented with the option to continue regardless or abort the installation. Did you get any prompted during the upgrade about this directory containing files? I got the following error message (and advice which might help): The directory /var/lib/mailman/qfiles contains files. It needs to be empty for the upgrade to work properly. You can try to handle them by: - Stop new messages from coming in (at the MTA level). - Start a mailman queue runner: /etc/init.d/mailman start - Let it run until all messages are handled. If they don't all get handled in a timely manner, look at the logs to try to understand why and solve the cause. - Stop it: /etc/init.d/mailman stop - Retry the upgrade. - Let messages come in again. You can also decide to simply remove the files, which will make Mailman forget about (and lose) the corresponding emails. . If these files correspond to shunted messages, you have to either delete them or unshunt them (with /var/lib/mailman/bin/unshunt). Shunted messages are messages on which Mailman has already abandoned any further processing because of an error condition, but that are kept for admin review. You can use /var/lib/mailman/bin/show_qfiles to examine the contents of the queues. . You have the option to continue installation regardless of this problem, at the risk of losing the messages in question or breaking your Mailman setup. [Bug 724155] Re: package bacula-director-mysql 5.0.1-1ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: podproces instalovaný post-installation skript vrátil chybový status 1
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It looks like bacula-director-mysql had problems contacting the mysql database that is supporting the installation. If mysql-server was already installed and running, this is maybe because you did not supply the correct admin password during the configuration of bacula-director-mysql. This is also caused when mysql-server is not pre-installed; this package is a dependency for bacula and is installed but does not start prior to bacula configuration causing this type of error. Please can you try running the following commands: sudo apt-get remove bacula-director-mysql sudo apt-get install bacula This should remove the current part-installed bacula packages and re- start the installation. You should get prompted for the admin password of the mysql-server database. Please update this bug if this resolved your issue. [Bug 724601] [NEW] UEC images should disable udev persistent net rules
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: cloud-init Persistent interface naming should be disabled in UEC images, as it causes more harm that good. Firstly, cloud systems generally expect the interfaces to be created in the order they are created in the hypervisor. Renaming them (particularly when some images are persistent, and some are not) is confusing. Secondly, it causes inconsistency, in that the Xen pv interfaces (for instance) are ignored, whereas the kvm ones aren't. Thirdly, it causes terrible problems (read unbootable machines) on old Xen (and perhaps newer Xen), where the same interface appears twice - once as an emulated HVM interface, and one as a PV on HVM interface each with the same MAC address. That makes for confusion, particularly given one subsystem is ignored and one isn't. Essentially the interfaces constantly rename. The (very easy) solution is to disable persistent net interface renaming. ** Affects: cloud-init (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to cloud-init in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/724601 Title: UEC images should disable udev persistent net rules -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 723330] Re: rename() function didn't work with /tmp dir
Hi Djalma! Thanks for taking the time to file this bug report and help us make Ubuntu better. Indeed, the error message is confusing, because while you called rename, copy is complaining. This happens because of this snippet of code: ret = VCWD_RENAME(url_from, url_to); if (ret == -1) { #ifndef PHP_WIN32 # ifdef EXDEV if (errno == EXDEV) { struct stat sb; if (php_copy_file(url_from, url_to TSRMLS_CC) == SUCCESS) { if (VCWD_STAT(url_from, sb) == 0) { Basically since your /tmp is a different partition than your home dir, php must emulate the low level unix rename by copying the file. The copy is failing because the source is a dir, and copy doesn't accept directories. This is a bug, with an unclear resolution. Either rename should copy recursively the whole directory to the new device, or it should describe the problem with its own error message rather than relying on copy to do it in a confusing way. I've forwarded the issue upstream to PHP, so I'll mark the issue as Triaged. There's nothing broken, its just not doing what we'd like it to, so I'l set status to Wishlist. ** Changed in: php5 (Ubuntu) Status: New = Triaged ** Changed in: php5 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Wishlist ** Bug watch added: bugs.php.net/ #54097 http://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=54097 ** Also affects: php via http://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=54097 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to php5 in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/723330 Title: rename() function didn't work with /tmp dir -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 723480] Re: php5-fpm uses too high value for pm.max_children by default
Hi Marco, thanks for taking the time to file this bug report. There's a basic assumption I think that can be made, that servers have at least 1GB of virtual memory (not physical). 6GB, however, is excessive. Given that, I'm marking this bug as Confirmed. We'll need to open this discussion up with Debian before we can consider it Triaged. Given the assumption of virtual memory, I think 6 would be a reasonable default, as this would leave 256MB for other daemons and FS cache, and only begin swapping when memory pressure is extreme. Ideally people would write PHP scripts that don't leak so badly as to use 128MB of RAM. Since this one is subjective, I am setting the Importance to Low. I think the importance is still somewhat open to discussion, but we definitely should lower this default no matter what. ** Changed in: php5 (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed ** Changed in: php5 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to php5 in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/723480 Title: php5-fpm uses too high value for pm.max_children by default -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 721295] Re: After setting up apache2 ssl error ssl_error_rx_record_too_long
Hi Thomas, thanks for taking the time to file this bug report and help us make Ubuntu better. I was unable to reproduce this on Ubuntu 10.04 with the latest updates. I didn't create the certificate though, I did this: sudo apt-get install apache2 sudo a2ensite default-ssl sudo a2enmod ssl sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 restart Doing that, I was able to access the site via SSL. Can you please be specific about the steps to reproduce this? [Bug 723480] Re: php5-fpm uses too high value for pm.max_children by default
Sounds like a sound choice. And a sound assumption. I just looked at php-fpm from php's svn repo and the max_children is set as 50 there, so I'll try to log the same bug with php. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to php5 in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/723480 Title: php5-fpm uses too high value for pm.max_children by default -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 723480] Re: php5-fpm uses too high value for pm.max_children by default
Bug reported with php, so hopefully it won't be reintroduced if we fix it (that is if php fixes it).

Marco, thanks for reporting it upstream! Can you please link that bug here (and mention this bug there)? [Bug 720996] Re: package samba 2:3.5.6~dfsg-5ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Brandon, thanks. It would appear that something went wrong in the pre- start script. Could you grep for problems in /var/log/daemon.log ? grep nmbd /var/log/daemon.log should do it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/720996 Title: package samba 2:3.5.6~dfsg-5ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 723480] Re: php5-fpm uses too high value for pm.max_children by default
I mentioned and linked to this bug on that bug report, and here's the link to the bug in php's system: http://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=54098 I made a patch for their part (so easy with svn diff), but don't really know how to do it easily for binary packages (really, I guess I'm too lazy to go through installing all requirements and get the source packages etc.) Don't really want to have too much unnessecary stuff hanging around on my production server.. ** Bug watch added: bugs.php.net/ #54098 http://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=54098 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to php5 in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/723480 Title: php5-fpm uses too high value for pm.max_children by default -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
