Can you run xinetd manually with the -d flag to verify that it is not
failing to parse on startup as well? Trying to reproduce but comments
on the same line as a configuration option fail to parse in both

comments on new lines (xinetd/parsesup.c:39)

[Bug 644632] Re: nssldap-update-ignoreusers needs to be configurable to ignore users

2011-04-19 Thread Jamie Strandboge
TEST CASE (based on comment #84 from bug #155947):
1. apt-get install ldap-auth-client # pulls in libnss-ldap

2. configure ldap to use (via debconf):
ldap://127.0.0.1/
root requires a password: 'no'
everything else defaults

3. verify on fresh install nss_initgroups_ignoreusers is not present:
$ cat /etc/ldap.conf |grep ^nss || echo ok
ok

4. run /etc/init.d/libnss-ldap stop and verify it populated ldap.conf
$ sudo /etc/init.d/libnss-ldap stop
 * Running nssldap-update-ignoreusers... [ OK ]
$ cat /etc/ldap.conf |grep ^nss
nss_initgroups_ignoreusers
avahi,avahi-autoipd,backup,bin,couchdb,daemon,games,gdm,gnats,haldaemon,hplip,irc,kernoops,libuuid,list,lp,mail,man,messagebus,news,proxy,pulse,root,rtkit,saned,speech-dispatcher,sshd,sync,sys,syslog,usbmux,uucp,www-data

5. add to /etc/ldap.conf the following:
nss_initgroups_okusers uucp,www-data

6. run /etc/init.d/libnss-ldap stop and verify it updated ldap.conf correctly:
$ sudo /etc/init.d/libnss-ldap stop
 * Running nssldap-update-ignoreusers... [ OK ]
$ cat /etc/ldap.conf |grep ^nss
nss_initgroups_ignoreusers
avahi,avahi-autoipd,backup,bin,couchdb,daemon,games,gdm,gnats,haldaemon,hplip,irc,kernoops,libuuid,list,lp,mail,man,messagebus,news,proxy,pulse,root,rtkit,saned,speech-dispatcher,sshd,sync,sys,syslog,usbmux

The groups listed were in a VM with ubuntu-desktop installed on Lucid.
To properly test this, the groups listed in step '5' should be compared
with the old libnss-ldap and the proposed libnss-ldap to make sure that
the groups are the same.

[Bug 644632] Re: nssldap-update-ignoreusers needs to be configurable to ignore users

2011-04-19 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Based on the above test case, NAK on the current patch. It has a
trailing ')' in the OKUSERS line, does not output the correct
'nss_initgroups_ignoreusers' line (ie, uucp and www-data are still
listed) and the man page has not been updated.

[Bug 763923] Re: package postfix 2.8.2-1ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 75

2011-04-19 Thread Andres Rodriguez
Hi there,

Thank you for taking the time to report bugs and trying to make Ubuntu
Server better.

According to the information you have provided, it seems that the reason
why it failed to upgrade is because one of the parameters in the config
file does not take multiple values:

newaliases: fatal: myorigin parameter setting must not contain multiple
values: P.E. Wigboldus

So, this means that you would have to change the parameter accordingly
as it only takes one single value. Once you change it, you should be
able to do the following to complete the installation:

sudo dpkg --configure -a

Please, let us know how it goes.

Cheers,

[Bug 644632] Re: nssldap-update-ignoreusers needs to be configurable to ignore users

2011-04-19 Thread Jamie Strandboge
The problem with the patch as written is that while 'users' gets updated
correctly with this line:
users=`awk -v min=$MIN -v okuser=$OKUSERS -F:
'BEGIN{split(okuser,a,/,/);for (i in a) b[a[i]]} ($3 min) !($1 in
b){printf %s%s,s,$1;s=,}' /etc/passwd`

'users' is immediately updated after this however to merge what was in
nss_initgroups_ignoreusers before and what is currently in 'users', so
because 'uucp,www-data' was in nss_initgroups_ignoreusers before running
nssldap-update-ignoreusers, it gets merged back in.

[Bug 764004] Re: package amavisd-new-postfix 1:2.6.5-0ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2011-04-19 Thread Andres Rodriguez
Hi there,

Thank you for taking the time to report bugs and trying to make Ubuntu
Server better.

According to the information you have provided, the reason of the
installation failure is because amavisd was apparently unable to obtain
a fully qualified domain, and now you must provide one. This information
is provided as follows:

Starting amavisd: The value of variable $myhostname is argon, but should
have been
a fully qualified domain name; perhaps uname(3) did not provide such.
You must explicitly assign a FQDN of this host to variable $myhostname
in /etc/amavis/conf.d/05-node_id, or fix what uname(3) provides as a host's
  network name!
(failed).

Note that a FQDN is of the way: servername.example.com and your is
argon

Once you have fixed the issue, running the following should complete the
installation:

sudo dpkg --configure -a

Please, let us know how it goes. Marking this bug as incomplete for now.

Hi there,

Thank you for taking the time to report bugs and trying to make Ubuntu

2011-04-19 Thread Andres Rodriguez
Hi there,

Thank you for taking the time to report bugs and trying to make Ubuntu
better.

Unfortunately,. I've been unable to reproduce this error. However, after
some online research this problem appears to be with version 1.1.17 and
maybe 1.1.18. Starting from 1.1.19 this seems to be fixed. Unfortunately
there doesn't seem to exist a patch to fix this issue specifically but
rather just to use a newer upstream version according to what I've read.

For now, I'll be marking this bug as incomplete until a bit more
research is done in the issue and maybe finding the appropriate patch in
upstream.

[Bug 644632] Re: nssldap-update-ignoreusers needs to be configurable to ignore users

2011-04-19 Thread Jamie Strandboge
So in talking with Scott on irc, he brought up an important point-- it
is undesirable to add the additional nss_initgroups_okusers option if
upstream actually implements
nss_initgroups_ignoreusers/nss_initgroups_minimum_uid in nss-ldap proper
(see upstream bug http://bugzilla.padl.com/show_bug.cgi?id=341). I think
the best course of action is for people interested in fixing this bug to
comment in the upstream bug about how
nss_initgroups_ignoreusers/nss_initgroups_minimum_uid isn't always
enough, and there should be some sort of whitelist. At that point we can
evaluate the best way to move forward (and have a blessed config
option).

If they NAK it, we could theoretically still implement this feature in
nssldap-update-ignoreusers, with the understanding that nssldap-update-
ignoreusers would have to be updated when upstream implements
nss_initgroups_ignoreusers/nss_initgroups_minimum_uid and only remove
users in nss_initgroups_okusers from nss_initgroups_ignoreusers rather
than trying to generate nss_initgroups_ignoreusers on the fly each time.

[Bug 667269] Re: winbind crashes

2011-04-19 Thread gmoore777
I just did a backtrace on another machine(bee37), of another core file,
the back trace takes a different path, but the final 3 calls are the
same as my previous post and the same last e calls as Mau's back trace:

rpc_pipe_np_smb_conn

...

Unfortunately these 3 back traces that have the same last 3 calls, are all
different than my original backtrace I posted on 12/27/2010,
but I'll take any winbind fix for any problem at this point.

I had 22 of 80 machines experience a winbind
problem yesterday, Monday 2011-04-18.

I will throw one red herring of an idea out there.
Is it possible that the cause of this is
if a user is in a Windows group per his poilicy file but that group isn't
active anymore?
winbind can work for days at a time, so this problem is not deterministic.
There's some
other factor that is causing this to happen, and I can't figure it out.

[Bug 766229] [NEW] koan --replace-self relies on grubby

2011-04-19 Thread Tom Ellis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cobbler

When using koan's --replace-self option, an additional grub entry is
used and set as default, so the system is rebooted into the install
kernel without having to PXE boot.

This is a neat feature of koan but it relies on 'grubby' which is grub1
specific.

[Bug 766229] Re: koan --replace-self relies on grubby

2011-04-19 Thread Tom Ellis
grub2 uses grub-mkconfig (called by update-grub) to regen the grub.cfg
file, as the linux and initrd.gz files are downloaded correctly by koan
to /boot/linux and /boot/initrd.gz you can get use it to regenerate the
grub.cfg file.

I think grub-mkconfig expects the files in the format vmlinuz-$version
and initrd-img-$version though...

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu

to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 765224] Re: import from mini.iso fails

2011-04-19 Thread Dustin Kirkland
True, Chuck.

However, the mini.iso is a really convenient and valid way to trigger a
network installation.

Brainstorming here in Montreal, we decided that mini.iso's are small
enough that we could actually put logic in an Ubuntu Orchestra cronjob
that regularly downloads and imports Ubuntu's mini.iso's (if you have
network connectivity) such that your Orchestra install is always and
automatically able to deploy Ubuntu releases!

[Bug 569757] Re: NIS upstart dependancy broken for lucid

2011-04-19 Thread Jeremy Yoder
Hopefully this works. I'm attaching a working nis.conf and nis-
wait.conf based on the comments so far. Put the files in /etc/init and
that should be all that's necessary for most configurations. You
shouldn't even need to remove the /etc/rc?.d nis links since it should
just determine it's already started and exit.

The start line I used in nis.conf is based on the ypbind.conf file that
Paul Elliott wrote, but the rest of the script is from Clint Byrum's
suggestion. I also modified the nis-wait.conf to include cron and atd.

No, this isn't a perfect answer, but it works for me. I don't know if
it's a complete enough suggestion to cover Maciej Puzio's case but it
might be.

[Bug 667269] Re: winbind crashes

2011-04-19 Thread gmoore777
Please, can someone raise the importance of this bug from Medium to whatever
the highest level is.
This winbind crashing problem is critical for us and is occurring with more
frequency on more machines,
daily if not hourly. It's affecting the confidence level of all our developers
and QA.

[Bug 753330] Re: The Samba 'panic action' script, /usr/share/samba/panic-action, was called for PID 1783 (/usr/sbin/winbindd).

2011-04-19 Thread gmoore777
FYI:
I have reported this exact same backtrace (at least the last 3 calls) here
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/667269?comments=all

for us, winbind is dead, black screen on Console, no longer can ssh into
machine using
Active Directory credentials.
I must kill any winbind processes running, then restart it.
It's happening more frequently, (hourly) on 25% or more of our 80
64-bit LucidLinux machines, integrated with ActiveDirectory(winbind).

I am desperate to get this bug fixed.

[Bug 580319] Re: dhcp3-server launches before upstart brings all interface, thus failing to start

2011-04-19 Thread Clint Byrum
Carlos, apologies if our status change has alarmed you. The status is
invalid in Natty only, because its been removed from natty.

Notice that it is status == Triaged in Lucid which means we plan to
fix it. I've also targetted it at 10.04.3, which is the next stable
point release for 10.04.

This is actually good news for an update to 10.04 because it means the
fix can be done since it is resolved in the development release. We
always make sure that the dev release is resolved first so that the
issue does not regress in future releases.

Note that you can work around the issue by changing /etc/init/rc-
sysinit.conf to be

start on filesystem and started networking

But of course, *TEST* that configuration fully before putting it into
production!

** Changed in: dhcp3 (Ubuntu Lucid)
Milestone: None = ubuntu-10.04.3

2011-04-19 Thread carloslp
That finally fixed the issue. I had tested it and now dhcp3-server
starts properly at boot. Thanks!

Nevertheless smbd daemon still fails to bind to the interface and I had
to start it manually.

[Bug 667269] Re: winbind crashes

2011-04-19 Thread gmoore777
1.)
Per https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/lucid/+package/winbind
there are several proposed versions to choose from:
winbind 2:3.4.7~dfsg-1ubuntu3.5 in amd64 (Proposed)
winbind 2:3.4.7~dfsg-1ubuntu3.6 in amd64 (Proposed)

i will choose the newer 3.6
winbind 2:3.4.7~dfsg-1ubuntu3.6 in amd64 (Proposed)

since the version that is currently installed is:
 2:3.4.7~dfsg-1ubuntu3.5

2.)
I will also purge the samba-dbg package in case that is conflicting.

3.)
I will choose 2 machines to install the winbind 2:3.4.7~dfsg-1ubuntu3.6 in
amd64 (Proposed)
and then wait and see what happens...

[Bug 667269] Re: winbind crashes

2011-04-19 Thread gmoore777
Instead of downloading the .deb files, i did the more appropriate,
SynapticPackageManager -- repositories -- Updates and
Click Pre-released updated (lucid-proposed) check box
which when installing winbind, it pulled in the proposed
versions of libwbclient0, samba, samba-common, and smbclient.
I did this on 2 machines (bee02 and bee75).
Will wait for winbind to crash.
