[Bug 841672] Re: ssh-add does not unlock ssh keys

2011-10-24 Thread Felix Müller
 Please reconsider the importance - it is a quite annoying bug (at
least to me).

Same here. We have rather complex tunneling mechanisms where we hop
over 5+ systems to get to the target hosts. With a strong (and long)
passphrase and some dozen connections a day (remote support) over here
this results in a major degradation of productivity.

[Bug 880020] Re: oneiric container install problem #1: resolvconf

2011-10-24 Thread xlyz
commands:

sudo rm -fr /var/cache/lxc/oneiric
sudo lxc-create -t ubuntu -n test -f /etc/lxc/local.conf -- -r oneiric -a i386

errors during creation are shown only when container cache is
bootstrapped (but the problem is still there also when the cache is just
copied)

in the host:

cat /etc/network/interfaces

# The loopback network interface
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

auto br0
iface br0 inet dhcp
bridge_ports eth0

cat /etc/lxc/local.conf

lxc.network.type=veth
lxc.network.link=br0
lxc.network.flags=up
lxc.arch=i686

resolvconf is not insatalled in the host either (as per default) as
currently does not behave as expected

in the container:

cat /etc/network/interfaces

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp

if I remove resolvconf from oneiric extra packages in
/usr/lib/lxc/templates/lxc-ubuntu everything works properly.

[Bug 880791] [NEW] Automated Bug Report during Oneiric Upgrade w/Samba

2011-10-24 Thread Jonathan Laatsch
Public bug reported:

I started a do-release-upgrade to install Oneiric before I left for work
this morning and when I came home, my Ubuntu server reported an error
during the installation. This bug report is a result of the automated
bug report generated during the install. I have not yet taken time to
attempt to troubleshoot or correct the problem.

Previous Install: 11.04 running Ubuntu 2.6.32-33-generic-pae
Upgrading to: 11.10 using do-release-upgrade after running aptitude to upgrade
all other installed software1

Unfortunately I do not know how to attach the error file generated by
the install to this bug report since the file is still on my server and
I couldn't log into Launchpad from that machine.

[Bug 211631] Re: Network is brought down before network filesystems are unmounted (CIFS timeout at shutdown)

2011-10-24 Thread Gonzals, S.
I have the same problem:
on
# lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS
Release:10.04
Codename:   lucid

none of the these options worked for me, short:
- dbus.conf
- K14 links
- S31 earlier
- a modprobe option
http://blog.dhampir.no/content/cifs-vfs-no-response-for-cmd-n-mid

the only option that seemed to work i found on
http://hardc0l2e.wordpress.com/2011/06/30/ubuntu-11-04-shutdown-and-restart-problem-with-cifs/

in short:

Rename the current shutdown, reboot and restart commands in /sbin.

# mv /sbin/shutdown /sbin/shutdown2
# mv /sbin/reboot /sbin/reboot2
# mv /sbin/restart /sbin/restart2

2. Then create scripts with names of the previous commands in /sbin,
which contains the following:

#!/bin/sh
umount -t cifs -a -f -l
/sbin/shutdown2 $@
exit 0

3. Make similar script for reboot and restart command which also points to
/sbin/reboot2 and /sbin/restart2.

but i also had to change the two links under /sbin, halt and poweroff to point
to reboot2 instead of reboot,
otherwise my machine would shutdown when isuing a shutdown -h now,
but just rebooted instead.

Could this be related to cifs getting mounted twice (when present in
fstab)?

It took me quiet some time, to test, and find a solution.

more output:
i use cifs mount with a vpn connection (cisco),
after mount -a i then get
$mount
..
/dev/sdb1 on /media/terra type ext4 (rw,nosuid,nodev,uhelper=udisks)
//fas-gt-01/rt on /mnt/rt type cifs (rw,mand)
//fas-gt-02/brt on /mnt/brt_gt type cifs (rw,mand)
//fas-gt-02/EX on /mnt/Ex type cifs (ro,mand)
//fas-gt-02/EX on /mnt/Ex type cifs (ro,mand)
//fas-gt-02/GR on /mnt/gr type cifs (ro,mand)
//fas-gt-02/GR on /mnt/gr type cifs (ro,mand)

So the ro mount are mounted twide..? While the rw get mounted once..
fstab options rw mount:
cifs
rw,noserverinfo,uid=1000,gid=1000,file_mode=0750,dir_mode=0750,credentials=/home/user/config/scripts/.cifs.credentials
fstab options rw mount:
cifs
ro,noserverinfo,uid=1000,gid=1000,file_mode=0440,dir_mode=0440,credentials=/home/user/config/scripts/.cifs.credentials

i have attached cifs entries in syslog

hth,
G

[Blueprint servercloud-p-move-ec2-mirrors-to-s3] Move EC2 mirrors to S3

2011-10-24 Thread Ben Howard
Blueprint changed by Ben Howard:

Whiteboard changed:
- Questions:
- - 'LAN' bandwidth access to the region mirrors is currently free already, no?
-- Daviey
+ Q. 'LAN' bandwidth access to the region mirrors is currently free already,
no? -- Daviey
+ A. All upload and intra-zone transit is free.
+
+ Q. How do you keep people out of EC2 from access?
+ A. Bucket policies enable restricting access to the Amazon CIDR address.

  Comments:
  - Can this whiteboard be pre-filed with some examples of how others have
implemented this?
+* AFAIK, there is only one implementation of S3 buckets. Most examples
that I know of us S3 as a storage backend, while having an EC2 instance front
the S3 storage. Amazon Linux AMI is the only pure S3 backend/frontend solution.
+
+ - How would this work?
+ * There are a number of ways to push out a repository using existing tools.
s3fuse (albeit rather buggy) allows you to mount a s3 bucket as file system.
s3cmd allows for local to remote synchronization. However, in order to build
something that scales well, you need something that uses multiple connections
and pushes multiple files at once (i.e. threading and boto python library)
+
+ --
+
+ Examples:
+ Amazon Linux AMI currently uses S3 for backing the mirrors. The design is
more or less:
+ - One bucket per region.
+ - Buckets are named off of the DNS CNAME, i.e.
us-east-1.ec2.archive.ubuntu.com
+ - a method of pushing pristine repositories up

[Bug 875262] Re: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library '/usr/lib/php5/20090626+lfs/sqlite.so'

2011-10-24 Thread parq
@Dave, this workaround doesn't work.

Proved solution: manual install sqlite.so from natty packages.

You can see the difference between packages here:
oneiric: http://packages.ubuntu.com/oneiric-updates/i386/php5-sqlite/filelist
natty: http://packages.ubuntu.com/natty-updates/i386/php5-sqlite/filelist

Step by step:
- Download the old package from here:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/natty-updates/php5-sqlite
- Extracts sqlite.so
- Move sqlite.so to /usr/lib/php5/20090626+lfs/
- Change file permissions to root:root
- Enjoy!

Actually it seems that inetutils-ping is the problem.

   packages=inetutils-ping

o

has the problem, but

   packages=resolvconf
  debootstrap --verbose --components=main,universe --include=$packages oneiric o

does not.

[Bug 880020] Re: oneiric container install problem: inetutils-ping

2011-10-24 Thread Serge Hallyn
Ok, there are two bugs here.

inetutils-ping causes the warning lines:

W: Failure while installing base packages. This will be re-attempted up
to five times.

resolvconf causes resolv.conf to be empty until you do 'ifdown eth0;
ifup eth0'.

I will pull resolvconf from the template. I don't think it's worth
pulling inetutils-ping from the package list to quiet that warning.
(Please feel free to pursuade me if you disagree)

when I type 'poweroff' in a natty container, I sometimes (not always)
see:

umount2: Device or resource busy
umount: /var/lib/ureadahead/debugfs busy - remounted read-only

mount: / is busy

[Bug 880030] Re: oneiric container problem: missing /run/lock

2011-10-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package lxc - 0.7.5-0ubuntu10

lxc (0.7.5-0ubuntu10) precise; urgency=low

  * debian/patches/0009-ubuntu-template-drop-resolvconf.patch:
Drop resolvconf from package list for oneiric containers. It appears
to stop containers from getting a useful resolv.conf without doing
ifdown; ifup; and is apparently unwanted anyway. (LP: #880020)

[Bug 880984] Re: error resizing root filesystem

2011-10-24 Thread Scott Moser
Note a few things:
a.) /dev/vda has has been grown during first boot, its partition table rewritten
   GROWROOT: CHANGED: partition=1 start=16065 old: size=4176900 end=4192965
new: size=20948760,end=20964825

   $ sudo sfdisk -l -uS /dev/vda

   Disk /dev/vda: 20805 cylinders, 16 heads, 63 sectors/track
   Warning: The partition table looks like it was made
 for C/H/S=*/255/63 (instead of 20805/16/63).
   For this listing I'll assume that geometry.
   Units = sectors of 512 bytes, counting from 0

b.) this does not occur for the ext3 (not ext4) filesystem on /dev/vdb

I'm going to mark this as against qemu-user, as qemu-kvm does not

[Bug 880984] Re: error resizing root filesystem

2011-10-24 Thread Scott Moser
Just noticed i was not comparing ubuntu version to debian version of
the same. We're behind debian by 7 days in a WIP snapshot, that
changelog contained:

e2fsprogs (1.42~WIP-2011-10-16-1) unstable; urgency=low
  * New upstream release
  * Fix online resizing with resize2fs (Closes: #644989)

So, we need that.

[Bug 880984] Re: error resizing root filesystem

2011-10-24 Thread Scott Moser
more info. I booted an oneiric system with userdata containing :
#cloud-config
cloud_init_modules:
 - bootcmd
 - set_hostname
 - update_hostname
 - update_etc_hosts
 - rsyslog
 - ssh

Essentially that stops cloud-init from doing the resize2fs on boot, so I
can subsequently install other packages and try. Heres what I found,
after install e2fsprogs, e2fslibs, libcom, libss2 of the appropriate
versions:

BOOT_SYS| e2fsprogs | result
precise_| debian| PASS
oneiric_| debian| PASS
precise_| precise   | FAIL
precise_| oneiric   | PASS

debian e2fsprogs:  1.42~WIP-2011-10-16-1
precise e2fsprogs: 1.42~WIP-2011-10-09-1ubuntu1
oneiric e2fsprogs: 1.41.14-1ubuntu3

So, this seems to be squarely a regression in the ubuntu delta from debian
*and* the ubuntu deleta oneiric - precise.

[Blueprint server-o-windows-paravirtual-drivers] Packaging of Windows Guest Paravirtual Drivers

2011-10-24 Thread mahmoh
Blueprint changed by mahmoh:

Whiteboard changed:
  Problems:

  - PV Drivers cannot be installed on an exhisting or pre-installed Win VM
  - Red Hat PV Drivers are signed and allow install on exhisting guests,
drivers must be signed to be installed (initial) for 2008/Win 7
  - Signed drivers can be installed but are not supported by Microsoft unless
WHQLed (MS Certiified and couter-signed)
  - RH owns copyright, and while it remains GPL2, they could fork it any time,
leaving us responsible for bugfixes.

  == Questions ==
  - Is there an outside source for these drivers?
  - WHQL support boundries?
  - Who will own/maintain and run the certification tests on LTS releases the
drivers once signed/WHQLed?
  - Partner or Multiverse

  == Drivers ==
  - SCSI (2x/3x speed increase)
  - Network (decrease latency but may be flaky)
  - Serial (used?)
  - Balloon (unknown/untested)

  Priorities:
  1) SCSI, 2) Network (if not flaky), 3) Baloon, 4) Serial,
  1) 2008 R2 SP1/Win 7, 2) everything else

  Work Items:
  [ahs3] Build the latest drivers from the latest source: DONE
  [markashtonb] Find out if we want to sign, WHQL, support (possibly code
updates), Logo, assign build/test responsibilities for driver updates/LTS
releases: POSTPONED
  [mahmoh] Get input on release(s) to certify from hallyn (target latest LTS +
latest Natty): DONE
   - per hallyn, 10.04.02 and 11.04 64 bit server releases (ISOs, no updates,
June) - should be good
- [mahmoh] Test the drivers as possible - 1) 2008 R2/SCSI on LTS, 2) Natty?:
POSTPONED
+ [mahmoh] Test the drivers as possible - 1) 2008 R2/SCSI on LTS, 2) Oneiric:
DONE
+ - latest net and scsi drivers pass testing, hypervisor stack will pass on
Lucid (w/ pending SRU -201110~15) and Oneiric passes (release)
+

  (see https://launchpad.net/kvm-guest-drivers-windows for downloads of latest
drivers from source.)
  Compare driver performance to existing WHQLed performance (wishlist): TODO
