[Bug 884428] Re: new created ubuntu machines result in: init: Unable to listen for private connections: Failed to bind socket /com/ubuntu/upstart: Address already in use
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. Is the command in the description exactly the command you used, or did you specify a config file with '-f'? If you specified a config file, can you paste it here? If you did not specify a config file, then you shoudl have seen a warning like: = Warning: --- Usually the template option is called with a configuration file option too, mostly to configure the network. eg. lxc-create -n foo -f lxc.conf -t debian The configuration file is often: lxc.network.type=macvlan lxc.network.link=eth0 lxc.network.flags=up or alternatively: lxc.network.type=veth lxc.network.link=br0 lxc.network.flags=up For more information look at lxc.conf (5) At this point, I assume you know what you do. Press enter to continue ... = Such a container indeed will fail to start because it will not have a network configuration, and therefore not create a new network namespace, so that the container's upstart shares abstract unix sockets with the host's. It's reasonable for certain containers, but not supported with a full ubuntu container. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to lxc in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/884428 Title: new created ubuntu machines result in: init: Unable to listen for private connections: Failed to bind socket /com/ubuntu/upstart: Address already in use To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxc/+bug/884428/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 863629] Re: libvirt-lxc: virFileOpenTtyAt can't be called on /some/other/dev/pts
** Also affects: libvirt (Ubuntu Lucid) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: libvirt (Ubuntu Maverick) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: libvirt (Ubuntu Natty) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: libvirt (Ubuntu Oneiric) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: lxcControllerRun() is calling virFileOpenTtyAt() with a slave opened on /the/container/chroot/dev/pts. While it is not documented in the manpages, glibc's grantpt does a first check (ensuring that the passed in fd is a pty slave) with '/dev/pts' as the hardcoded path, appending the pty#. lxcControllerRun always calls this on the first slave opened after creating the new /dev/pts, so grantpt is always checking /dev/pts/0. Therefore, if your host does not have /dev/pts/0 (easy to reproduce using screen), then grantpt will fail, and the container creation will subsequently also fail. + + = + SRU Justification: + + 1. Impact: libvirt will be unable to create lxc containers, saying that it cannot allocate /dev/pts/0 + 2. Development fix: A patch was sent upstream which makes libvirt-lxc not use glibc's grantpt, which is the cause of the bug. + 3. Stable fix: same as the development fix. + 4. Test case: +0. [ Set up libvirt and create a libvirt-lxc container ] +1. make sure noone is logged into the server +2. log in, make sure your tty is /dev/pts/0 (check with 'tty') +3. Pin /dev/pts/0 by doing sleep 2h disown; exit +4. Try to start a container on that system. Without this fix it will fail with an error about /dev/pts/0. +5. Regression potential: if the patch was bad, it could cause failures when starting a container, or other places when libvirt allocates a tty. + = -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to libvirt in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/863629 Title: libvirt-lxc: virFileOpenTtyAt can't be called on /some/other/dev/pts To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libvirt/+bug/863629/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 795717] Re: 32bit rhel and centos 5.(5|6) hangs on boot on natty
In comment #2 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qemu-kvm/+bug/795717/comments/2 gdahlman's observation: {{ As an update I can boot when the guest is restricted to a single cpu ... }} I think means that on the VM host if /usr/bin/kvm is forced to run on only one CPU via setting its processor affinity (via /usr/bin/taskset from the util-linux package) this issue does not occur. I can and will test that too soon. If it's true it explains a bit of why Ubuntu VM guests only sometime hang. The /usr/bin/kvm process running them might only sometimes switch CPUs while the VM guest is rebooting while /usr/bin/kvm running 32-bit RHEL 5 with 2 CPUs might always switch CPUs while the VM guest is rebooting. Also of note, 64-bit RHEL 5 does not use kvm-clock as a clocksource. For example: 64-bit RHEL 5 $ sudo cat /sys/devices/system/clocksource/clocksource0/available_clocksource jiffies 32-bit RHEL 5 $ sudo cat /sys/devices/system/clocksource/clocksource0/available_clocksource acpi_pm jiffies hpet tsc pit kvm-clock Both x86 and x86_64 RHEL 6 use kvm-clock but also linux kernel 2.6.32 I think by not using kvm-clock 64-bit RHEL 5 is not 100% vulnerable the way 32-bit RHEL 5 is. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to qemu-kvm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/795717 Title: 32bit rhel and centos 5.(5|6) hangs on boot on natty To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/795717/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 884908] [NEW] Package dependencies need work
Public bug reported: This is actually a bug report for mcollective, mcollective-middleware and mcollective-client. The package dependencies need to be looked at because as they stand now on Ubuntu 11.10 oneiric, they are not correct. What I have discovered so far is: mcollective-middleware need to depend on mcollective, otherwise the directory /etc/mcollective is not created. At least mcollective-client needs to depends on 'rubygems'. Without it you receive the following: $ mc-find-hosts /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/mcollective.rb:1:in `require': no such file to load -- rubygems (LoadError) from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/mcollective.rb:1 from /usr/sbin/mc-find-hosts:3:in `require' from /usr/sbin/mc-find-hosts:3 I believe mcollective-middleware also needs to depend on rubygems, because the above error was replaced with silence after installing rubygems. Once I restarted the mcollective service, silence was replaced with the correct functionality. Please let me know if you need more information. If you want a container with no network interface at all, then you can place the following into your config: lxc.network.type = empty That will create an empty private network namespace. [Bug 47958] Re: ssh-agent clobbers LD_LIBRARY_PATH and other environment variables
Same bug for me. I may define LD_LIBRARY_PATH from .bashrc or .zshrc, it will be OK, but only from a console, and won't be if I run an application from a *.desktop file as an example. So I wanted to define it in .profile, but what ever I do, it seems to be cleared unconditionally after interpretation of .profile. There is ldconfig, but unfortunately, this acts system wide, and I won't add a system wide entry for a library path which is relevant only for a single user.
