[Blueprint servercloud-p-php54] PHP 5.4 for Ubuntu 12.04

2012-03-08 Thread Ondřej Surý
Blueprint changed by Ondřej Surý:

Whiteboard changed:
Status: After some discussions with our release team and security team,
there is a strong desire to ship 5.4.0 rather than 5.3.10. I am in
- agreement with this, and will make a push to setup a 5.4.0 PPA this week
- and rally some testers. Here is a list of bugs already found in Debian
- as part of their 5.4 transition: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
- bin/pkgreport.cgi?repeatmerged=nosrc=php5. First big blocker is that
- suhosin is still not available for php 5.4 ..will try to find out where
- development is on that next.
+ agreement with this, and I will rally some testers. Here is a list of

+ ma...@lists.alioth.debian.org. First big blocker is that suhosin is

+ is on that next.
+
+ There is a PPA with up-to-date version of PHP 5.4.0 for lucid - oneiric:
+ https://launchpad.net/~ondrej/+archive/php5 and people are already using
+ it. (I already had some user base).

  Work items:
[ubuntu-server] In january, assess situation based on Debian status and
decide 5.4 or 5.3 then: DONE
  [clint-fewbar] maintain a merged 5.4 in a PPA ( ppa:clint-fewbar/php5 ) :
DONE

the upgrade: POSTPONED
+ [ondrej] setup backport for lucid to allow wider PHP 5.4 testing before the
upgrade: DONE

  Question:
Does this require discussion or just rubber stamping? -- Daviey

  Answer:
It is not entirely clear whether 5.4.0 will be sufficiently similar to 5.3.x
to include in this release. The more conservative approach is just to ship
5.3.9 or 5.3.10 and leave 5.4.0 for 12.10, but the PHP community is interested
in weighing in on the issue and I'd also like to hear the security team's take
on the matter.

   * provide packages for both precise and lucid in the ppa (or
lucid-backports) so people can test before upgrade
   * provide rebuilt extensions against the new ABI

  Question:
With both PHP 5.4.0 final and Ubuntu 12.04 Beta 1 released today, is it
correct to assume that the chances of PHP 5.4 being shipped with Ubuntu 12.04
are basically non existant? -Clemens

[Bug 946953] [NEW] 'Permission denied' when using a windows share

2012-03-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hi,

I'm having trouble telling deja-dup to send backups to a windows share.
First, there is no 'share' field like there is in Nautilus. I tried
share/path and /share/path with the same result : deja-dup doesn't ask for
a password and immediately says 'Permission Denied'.
I then tried 'custom location', giving it a URI like
smb://domain;user@server/share/path. Same result.

There is no problem with the windows share as it mounts perfectly in
Nautilus.

Any idea ?

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10
Package: deja-dup 20.1-0ubuntu0.2
ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.0.0-16.28-generic 3.0.17

[Bug 946953] Re: 'Permission denied' when using a windows share

2012-03-08 Thread Julien Cornuwel
I did some more testing :
- It is not a configuration problem: I tried with 'custom location' and
copy/pasted the URI from Nautilus, same result (permission denied, without
asking for a password).
- the problem is specific to a share which is hosted on an EMC array.
Specifying a share on a windows box works fine.
- A colleague running OpenSuse 12.1 (64) is having the same error trying to
mount that share in Nautilus.

So, I now think the problem might not be related to deja-dup, or ubuntu
for that matter.

** Package changed: deja-dup (Ubuntu) = samba (Ubuntu)

** Summary changed:

- 'Permission denied' when using a windows share
+ 'Permission denied' when mounting a windows share on an EMC array

Additionally, the mount also fails with mount.cifs, although it asks for
a password before saying 'permission denied'.

The only way to mount this share is from Nautilus...

2012-03-08 Thread James Page
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

It looks like something has left some lock files in the /etc/ directory
on your install.

Please try removing the following files if present:

   /etc/passwd.lock
   /etc/group.lock
   /etc/shadow.lock

You can they complete the update by running the following command:

  sudo apt-get -f install

I'm going to mark this bug as 'Invalid' but this this does not resolve
your issue please set back to 'New'.

[Bug 948320] Re: main.cf should not refer to localhost

2012-03-08 Thread James Page
I'm in agreement with Scott; if your system can't resolve 'localhost'
then its probably going to have a number of other issues as well.

The Ubuntu Server guide has some helpful advice on network configuration
that might help you out:

https://help.ubuntu.com/11.10/serverguide/C/network-configuration.html

Marking this bug as 'Invalid' as the consensus is that guaranteed
resolution of localhost is not unreasonable.

[Bug 946953] Re: 'Permission denied' when mounting a windows share on an EMC array

2012-03-08 Thread Jelmer Vernooij
I don't think deja-dup should support SMB urls as it doesn't use gvfs as
far as I can tell.

You should indeed be able to use mount.cifs to mount the share, but that
doesn't involve Samba, just the cifs kernel module.

[Bug 949956] [NEW] lxc-start-ephemeral keeps same MAC address, and so same IP address, as base instance

2012-03-08 Thread Gary Poster
Public bug reported:

As smoser pointed out, lxc-start-ephemeral needs to do the same kinds of
things that lxc-clone does, such as this:

# change hwaddrs
mv ${c} ${c}.old
(
while read line; do
if [ ${line:0:18} = lxc.network.hwaddr ]; then
echo lxc.network.hwaddr= 00:16:3e:$(openssl rand -hex 3| sed
's/\(..\)/\1:/g; s/.$//')
else
echo $line
fi
done
)  ${c}.old  ${c}
rm -f ${c}.old

# set the hostname
cat EOF $rootfs/etc/hostname
$hostname
EOF
# set minimal hosts
cat EOF $rootfs/etc/hosts
127.0.0.1 localhost $hostname
EOF

We have a version that does this, and will propose it.

[Bug 949956] Re: lxc-start-ephemeral keeps same MAC address, and so same IP address, as base instance

2012-03-08 Thread Benji York
I've submitted an MP
(https://code.launchpad.net/~benji/ubuntu/precise/lxc/bug-949956/+merge/96601)
to fix this.

The hostname and /etc/hosts munging is already done in lxc-start-
ephemeral (and arguably in a superior way), so I left that part alone.

[Bug 948993] Re: rabbitmq-2.7.1-0ubuntu1 lacks compatibility with plugin packages

2012-03-08 Thread Clint Byrum
Marc, the new debdiff looks mostly right. I'm a little concerned about
this:

invoke-rc.d rabbitmq-server restart || true

I'd prefer to see

if !invoke-rc.d rabbitmq-server restart ; then
  RESTART_RESULT=$?
  if [ $RESTART_RESULT!= 100 ] ; then
exit $RESTART_RESULT
  fi
fi

Because many of the other responses that invoke-rc.d might give are
quite valid errors that the user may want to know about, such as failing
to start rabbitmq again.

Reproduced and confirmed this was caused by 2 reasons

1- apache2 doesn't enable mod_headers by default now, so we need to explicitly
enable it on puppetmaster-passenger.postinst
2- Rack directory changed from /usr/share/puppet/rack/puppetmasterd to
/etc/puppet/rack/public/ on the config file, we need to revert this on

[Bug 950183] Re: puppetmaster-passenger postinst creates wrong certificate files and puppetmaster vhost if puppet config print has an error

2012-03-08 Thread Adam Gandelman
Hey Glen-- Thanks for reporting this and helping us make Ubuntu better!

I believe the issue here is that 'puppet config print' returns 0 on
failure. The maintainer script is 'set -e', but in this case the errors
are not caught. I'm wondering the script should be attempting to parse
err: from calls to config print and fail early, or we should work on
a patch to puppet to properly return non-zero on those errors.

[Bug 950183] Re: puppetmaster-passenger postinst creates wrong certificate files and puppetmaster vhost if puppet config print has an error

2012-03-08 Thread Glenn Aaldering
Adem, I can confirm that if it returns 0 on failure, which is really bad
behaviour. Its really sad that such simple things can cause so much
trouble.

For now the fastest fix is to see if err: is returned by puppet config
print in the postinst before even doing anything and if so the postinst
should exit the install, roll back any changes and give a message that
puppet.conf should be fixed first before reinstalling.

Re: [Bug 912355] Re: euca-allocate-address is not acepting any parameters

2012-03-08 Thread David Kavanagh
Per the API documentation;
http://docs.amazonwebservices.com/AWSEC2/latest/APIReference/ApiReference-query-AllocateAddress.html

You cannot specify an address. It is allocated for you from a pool. If you
need a fixed location, the recommendation is to set up a DNS record and
point it to the elastic IP.

[Bug 881464] Re: [MIR] keystone

2012-03-08 Thread Jamie Strandboge
I have performed another shallow security audit of keystone. The code audit was
not deep because Keystone is very young and developing very fast. (even more
so now because of the rewrite. --
http://docs.openstack.org/trunk/openstack-identity/admin/content/what-is.html.
With that said, here is my review:

Package review:
- Does not run as root
- Has test suite in the build, but 139 out of 266 test cases fail. debian/rules
  has:
  override_dh_auto_test:
bash run_tests.sh -N || true
- Listens on all interfaces by default, on ports 5000/tcp and 35357/tcp (admin
  interface)
- no sudo fragments
- no DBus services
- no setuid/setgid binaries
- By default, does not use ssl. Since access to keystone is necessarily over
the network and considering that Keystone/Nova/Glance/Quantum bits are likely
on a trusted network (though they should use SSL as well), the most important
bit seems to be the User to Keystone interaction, as that is where the password
is passed and the token used by the other services is received. If the password
or token is snooped then an attacker can do everything as that authenticated
user.
- The previous version of keystone had some sort of SSL capabilities, but this
version doesn't support it in any documentation.

Code review:
- no privileged operations
- process spawning seems sane
- file handling seems sane
- environment handling seems sane
- uses sqlalchemy, which is good

Requirements for main inclusion:
- add to manpage the fact that this must be on a trusted network segment or
  provide proper SSL configuration.
- fix test suite and make it fail the build
