[Bug 841672] Re: ssh-add does not always unlock ssh keys

2012-04-20 Thread Hamish Downer
I found a way to trigger the gnome dialog box directly, so I only have
to enter the ssh password once.

I created ~/bin/gssh-add and put the following in it:

SSH_ASK_PASS=/usr/bin/ssh-askpass ssh-add

I then make it executable:

chmod +x ~/bin/gssh-add

And then I launch it using Alt+F2. That triggers the gnome dialog box.

Note that if you run gssh-add from the terminal it will not trigger the
gnome dialog box. See the ENVIRONMENT section of the ssh-add man page
for details as to why.

[Bug 985727] Re: krb5-admin-server falsely claiming clock skew errors

2012-04-20 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

I have failed to reproduce this on Precise.

krb5-admin-server 1.10+dfsg~beta1-2
krb5-kdc1.10+dfsg~beta1-2

I made sure that DNS worked correctly (by putting the server FQDN in
/etc/hosts), symlinked /dev/urandom to /dev/random (as I am running on a
VM, it's short of entropy) and ran krb5_newrealm. I added an admin
credential using kadmin.local, and then kadmin works without any delay.

Can you check that you don't have a DNS issue resolving your admin
server slowly, thus causing a clock skew issue?

I'm not sure what else to suggest. If you can provide step-by-step
instructions to reproduce this on a single fresh VM, this would help.

[Bug 596859] Re: ntp profile denies write access to serial devices

2012-04-20 Thread Paul Crawford
This appears to be broken again, the 10.04 default profile has:

# vim:syntax=apparmor
# Last Modified: Tue Aug 11 16:14:21 CDT 2009
# Updated for Ubuntu by: Jamie Strandboge ja...@canonical.com

snip

  @{NTPD_DEVICE} r,

So it only allows read-access to the devices. Also broken/reverted is
the tunables which has:

# Last Modified: Thu Aug 2 14:37:03 2007
# $Id: usr.sbin.ntpd 1102 2008-02-19 10:35:19Z jrjohansen $

#
# --

#Add your ntpd devices here eg. if you have a DCF clock
# @{NTPD_DEVICE}=/dev/ttyS*
@{NTPD_DEVICE}=/dev/tty10

Again, no default access to serial ports and modification date is before
the message #4 (above). Can this be fixed again and pushed back to
debian so it stays fixed?

[Bug 986159] [NEW] squid3 open file descriptors limit is set incorrectly

2012-04-20 Thread Timur Irmatov
Public bug reported:

As far as I can see, upstart configuration file for squid3 tries to
raise limit of open file descriptors to 65535 in pre-start script.

[Bug 596859] Re: ntp profile denies write access to serial devices

2012-04-20 Thread Robie Basak
Paul,

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

I've just checked the current development version, and I see
@{NTPD_DEVICE} rw in /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.ntpd and
@{NTPD_DEVICE}=/dev/null in /etc/apparmor.d/tunables/ntpd.

You said that you're using 10.04. This is an older release than where
the bug was fixed in, so this would make sense. If you are using an old
release, a workaround is to fix /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.ntpd by hand.
Even in the current release, it appears that it is intended and required
to specify the serial port device in /etc/apparmor.d/tunables/ntpd.

So as far as I can determine, this bug is fixed in the current
development version and there has been no regression. But if I'm
mistaken, please let us know!

[Bug 596859] Re: ntp profile denies write access to serial devices

2012-04-20 Thread Robie Basak
Paul,

In order to maintain stability, a stable release only gets bugfixes
backported if they are deemed severe enough. I'm not sure that this bug
qualifies, because it only affects a small number of users (those with
hardware clocks) and a trivial workaround is available.

More details of the policy and process are here:

[Bug 986159] Re: squid3 open file descriptors limit is set incorrectly

2012-04-20 Thread Robie Basak
Timur,

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Unfortunately, we're in Final Freeze at the moment
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FinalFreeze), pending the imminent release next
week.

I wonder if you can give us any information on the impact of this bug?
If we release without this fix, how many people are likely to be
affected? Do you think this bug is severe enough to warrant a freeze
exception?

I think that this bug won't affect most users, and of course there's an
easy workaround by fixing the config file by hand, so it probably
doesn't justify a freeze exception. Or is this inaccurate?

The alternatives are to either issue a Stable Release Update after
release (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates), or to defer the
fix until the next release.

Thanks,

Robie

[Bug 981955] Re: lxc-execute does not seem to work in precise

2012-04-20 Thread Serge Hallyn
How did you create this container?

If I do:

sudo lxc-create -t ubuntu -n e1
sudo chroot /var/lib/lxc/e1/rootfs apt-get update
sudo chroot /var/lib/lxc/e1/rootfs apt-get install lxc
sudo lxc-execute -n e1 /bin/echo hi

I get

lxc-init: failed to mount /dev/shm : No such file or directory
hi

If you don't install lxc in the container, you should get an error about
not being able to execute lxc-init, but the error about not executing
(null) is simply odd.

Your host is precise?

[Bug 986314] [NEW] squid3 missing pie and bind-now hardening options

2012-04-20 Thread Steve Beattie
Public bug reported:

The squid (v2) package had all of the hardening options enabled (see
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=542723) due to squid
receiving and parsing network input and the number of and severity of
prior security issues; however, with the transition to squid3 some of
these options were lost by falling back to the default compiler
settings.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1) install the hardening-includes package
2) run '/usr/bin/hardening-check /usr/sbin/squid3'

If all the hardening options were enabled at compile time, the output
and return code should be:

  $ hardening-check /usr/sbin/squid3
  /usr/sbin/squid3:
   Position Independent Executable: yes
   Stack protected: yes
Fortify Source functions: yes (some protected functions found)
   Read-only relocations: yes
   Immediate binding: yes
  $ echo $?
  0

However, with the current squid3 version in precise(3.1.19-1ubuntu2) ,
the output and return code are like so:

  $ /usr/bin/hardening-check /usr/sbin/squid3
  /usr/sbin/squid3:
Position Independent Executable: no, normal executable!
   Stack protected: yes
Fortify Source functions: yes (some protected functions found)
   Read-only relocations: yes
   Immediate binding: no not found!
  $ echo $?
  1

You can also use the test-built-binaries.py script from the lp:qa-
regression-testing testsuite, with python-nose to run just the squid
portion, like so:

  $ nosetests test-built-binaries.py:BuiltBinariesTest.test_squid -v
  Testing squid ... ok

  --
  Ran 1 test in 3.699s

  OK

Per the discussion on IRC, it would be preferred to patch the rules file
to be sane with backport versions and upstream this to Debian as we
currently don't carry a diff for this.

Re: [Bug 981955] Re: lxc-execute does not seem to work in precise

2012-04-20 Thread Robert Collins
Hi, the wiki page I was following had no container, it was using an
implicit one or something - that gave me the impression it could just
act as an isolation layer around / , isolating only the things
configured (e.g. dev access, or networking).

That said, lxc-execute with an ephemeral mode looks like it would do
exactly what LP needs for test running :)

[Bug 981955] Re: lxc-execute does not seem to work in precise

2012-04-20 Thread B Clausius
Sorry for the incomplete info

I am using a container without rootfs.
Just type for a not existing container test:
$ sudo lxc-execute -n test /bin/echo hi
lxc-execute: Invalid argument - failed to get real path for '(null)'
lxc-execute: failed to pin the container's rootfs
lxc-execute: failed to spawn 'test'
lxc-execute: No such file or directory - failed to remove cgroup
'/sys/fs/cgroup//lxc/test'

or use a container ceated with:
$ sudo lxc-create -n test
No config file specified, using the default config
'test' created

I used different configs and it seams it is caused by the missing
rootfs.

Such simple things worked in the past at least under Natty, but not in
precise.

For more details on the hardening options, please see
http://wiki.debian.org/Hardening

Attached is a debdiff for precise-proposed SRU that addresses the issue
as well as fixes the file descriptor limit in bug 986159. I've built and
confirmed both issues locally, as well as performed a modicum of testing
to verify that squid3 still functions as expected.

Thanks.

The attachment squid3_3.1.19-1ubuntu3.debdiff of this bug report has
been identified as being a patch in the form of a debdiff. The ubuntu-
sponsors team has been subscribed to the bug report so that they can
review and hopefully sponsor the debdiff. In the event that this is in
fact not a patch you can resolve this situation by removing the tag
'patch' from the bug report and editing the attachment so that it is not
flagged as a patch. Additionally, if you are member of the ubuntu-
sponsors team please also unsubscribe the team from this bug report.

[Bug 981955] Re: lxc-execute does not seem to work in precise

2012-04-20 Thread Serge Hallyn
Ah. I see now. Thanks, guys.

There are actually two things you need to add to a configuration file to
make this work. If I do:

cat test.conf EOF
lxc.aa_profile = unconfined
lxc.rootfs = /
EOF

lxc-execute -n test -f test.conf -- /bin/echo hi

That works for me.

Skipping the pinning of rootfs when lxc.rootfs = NULL would seem
sensible. I'm not sure what we should do about the apparmor profile for
this case.

2012-04-20 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
That wouldn't be the right process though. The configuration itself
shipped by default should be patched, that can be done with a simple
patch to the dnsmasq package.

[Bug 978356] Re: squid3 gets killed at startup with dnsmasq and no networkmanager

2012-04-20 Thread Clint Byrum
So I think what is happening is that the network interface is coming up
before squid has installed a handler for SIGHUP.

*tons* of stuff happens between squid starting, and squid installing its
signal handlers. I haven't gone through all of the code but I'm betting
at least one or two stall on not having a network yet. It would seem
that squid should probably ignore SIGHUP almost immediately on startup
to avoid this issue.

I've pushed up a branch that makes that change, and I'll put up packages
in a PPA soon that affected users can test.

[Bug 986085] Re: package mysql-server-5.1 5.1.61-0ubuntu0.11.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 100

2012-04-20 Thread Clint Byrum
Hi thomas, thanks for taking the time to file a bug!

I think you may have accidentally removed a symlink from /etc/init.d:

mysql stop/waiting
invoke-rc.d: unknown initscript, /etc/init.d/mysql not found.

This symlink is needed for compatibility with things that still use the
direct path to the init.d script to stop/start/etc.

You can restore it with

ln -s /lib/init/upstart-job /etc/init.d/mysql

Please try that and then run

sudo dpkg --configure -a

To complete your package installation.

If the problem persists, please report back here the results of the dpkg
--configure -a command. For now, I'll close this as Invalid, but feel
free to re-open it as New.

What type of VPN connection? If it is managed by NetworkManager, it
should be brought down when network manager is brought down, *after* all
network filesystems are brought down.

If not, that seems like a bug in whatever is running VPNs, but its
probably not *this* bug. I would suggest reporting it separately with
'ubuntu-bug ' where is the package which controls your VPN.

[Bug 211631] Re: Network is brought down before network filesystems are unmounted (CIFS timeout at shutdown)

2012-04-20 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
Well, that would normally be correct, but the VPN plugins depend on
vpnc, pptp, openvpn, etc. to be running to establish and keep the VPN
connection up for rekeying and such. Those don't get a pid file in
/run/sendsigs.omit.d yet, and so they would get killed by the sendsigs
script shortly before upstart jobs actually stop network-manager, and
possibly before the remote storage is unmounted, depending on when that
happens.
