[Bug 876387] Re: fuser forking uncontrollably in cron job

2012-04-25 Thread Ondřej Surý
Yes confirmed on Ubuntu 11.10 running 3.0.0-17-generic kernel and PHP
5.3.6-13ubuntu3.6 with Suhosin-Patch (cli) (built: Feb 11 2012
03:26:01).

And ... have you tried installing fixed psmisc as told several times in
this bug report?

[Bug 988173] Re: maas-import-isos fails

Since I was running in a VM before instead of ssh, copy/pasting the

more with the actual output for the sake of being complete. Hope this
helps :)

[Bug 423252] Re: NSS using LDAP+SSL breaks setuid applications like su, sudo, apache2 suexec, and atd

2012-04-25 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Ah right, there would be the usecase of LDAP with SSL used by
non-GPL-compatible programmes.
So the proper fix is to have three sets of LDAP (client) libraries. The rest of
the packages (server
and utilities) can then be built against whatever of those the maintainers see
best fit.

[Bug 423252] Re: NSS using LDAP+SSL breaks setuid applications like su, sudo, apache2 suexec, and atd

2012-04-25 Thread Howard Chu
3 sets of LDAP client libraries? That sounds like a terrible solution.

Fwiw, I wrote a version of OpenLDAP's TLS support that could use any/all
of OpenSSL, GnuTLS, and MozillaNSS simultaneously, and never released
it, because it seemed that would be too confusing if separate apps had
different expectations of TLS config options. But it would certainly be
possible to add libltdl support in, and make libldap dynamically load a
single TLS implementation. I still don't see any technical merit in
supporting anything besides OpenSSL.

  Target versions of Hadoop components:

  hadoop-1.0.2
  hcatalog-0.2.0
  pig-0.9.1
  hbase-0.92.0
  hive-0.8.1
  zookeeper-3.4.3

  Package naming:

  hadoop
  hcatalog
  pig
  hbase
  hive

Packages that target partner CANNOT have the same name as packages in
the main archive so zookeeper will be:

  hadoop-zookeeper

This will prevent and conflicts with the zookeeper package in the main
  archive.

  Assumptions:

Packaging will use bigtop as a base.
   - reuse of control file structure will help support bigtop packages in juju
charms as and when they support precise.
Java will NOT be rebuilt during the package build process.
Native libraries will be rebuilt during the package build process.
Q: What does this mean for the hive embedded in hcatalog (via
hcatalog-0.2.0/hive/external)? I'm guessing we just use the hdp-hive package we
create.
Patches may be required for native build components.
Debconf configuration in packages is useful for Juju charms and should be
applied where appropriate.
--- Debconf currently in use: namenode, jobtracker and hdfs_dir
Binary distributions will be used from upstream (no source build by default).
Q: Exactly what does this mean in this context? Binary distributions of ...
Are these the jar files inside the hortonworks/apache source (e.g.
./hive-0.7.1+/lib/javaewah-0.3.jar?
A: So most of the apache projects ship a binary distribution tarball which
includes all of the compile Java etc so we should not build from source - just
re-use these jars etc...

  Challenges:

hcatalog not packaged in bigtop trunk (need to check branches)
  JAVA_HOME and use of openjdk-6/7? JAVA_HOME detection - bigtop use a
specific package for this (bigtop-utils) which tries to guess - might be worth
re-using.
java-package as recommended approach to re-packaging Oracle java for Ubuntu
(generates Debian packaging from upstream binary distro).
Kerberos security - probably actually needs to be a charm configuration
option to secure a cluster.
Q: For Kerberos, do we have the necessary dependencies to get this done? If
so, I can do the charm work.j
Q: Re: Kerberos. We may need to really look into this as this will end up
affecting not only hadoop but, all of the other parts ( hive, pig, etc. ) as
well. This can really complicate the packaging/charming as well so, we may not
have time to get it all done in this cycle. Just my thoughts.
MultiArch native libraries in hdp-hadoop package - should not must.
Hive contains patches for hcatalog support - we need to work these in somehow
(maybe a overlay to the binary re-distribution).

  hcatalog:
External dependency on mysql-connector? and maybe mysql?
No binary distribution - only source so will need to be built locally to
produce release tarbal.

  Work items:
Resolve conflict between archive zookeeper and partner zookeeper

[Bug 978356] Re: squid3 gets killed at startup with dnsmasq and no networkmanager

2012-04-25 Thread Daniel Hahler
Do you think adding a workaround like sleep 5 above the reload into the
resolvconf script makes sense and is good enough for a workaround in Ubuntu
Precise?
Would it be possible to add a loop to detect if the SIGHUP handler is properly
setup already (and send HUP only after that)?
Another idea might be to restart instead of reload.

Sorry, I've just now recognized that you have a patch already, and so any

Have you uploaded it to a PPA already?

Do you want to propose this patch upstream in Squid's Bugzilla?

[Bug 875395] Re: After upgrading to 11.10 bacula exhausts sql errors

This is because the necessary db-update-script isn't run by upgrading.
You'll have to run it manually afterwards.

[Bug 980189] Re: Database not upgraded while upgrading bacula

2012-04-25 Thread Thomas Schweikle
dbconfig is used. But the update not applied. The script in /usr/share
/bacula-director differs from the one given in the bacula sources (where
I found it). The differences are minor and shouldn't matter, but it is a
pitty to find scripts referenced to be found at /etc/bacula/scripts in
the manual at /usr/share/bacula-director. This means the manuals would
have to be updated too, but this wasn't done.

[Bug 988301] Re: lxc-ubuntu fails if no name is provided

2012-04-25 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks for reporting this bug.

lxc-ubuntu is however not to be called directly. Please use

lxc-create -t ubuntu

instead.. Calling 'lxc-create -t ubuntu' without the '-n name' does
show a proper usage message.

(This design should be changed to make the templates not directly
callable)

[Bug 857294] Re: Creating hotspot leads to endless connect/disconnect loop

2012-04-25 Thread iMac
The IPV6 was not my issue (or might have been secondary). Even with
Ignore my dnsmasq services are not responding to DHCP requests.
Things look good from the process output (which shows flags, etc for
dnsmasq) but no joy when inspecting the wire for DHCP request/response.
A separate issue in any event.

I did note that when I had IPV6 enabled (set to automatic) that dnsmasq
seemed to function and support it based on the syslog output, so perhaps
the lack of IPV6 support has been addressed in 12.04.

[Bug 975464] Re: document that nodes are brought up without security groups or firewall rules

2012-04-25 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Hmm, I was hoping the server team would do that. Fyi, since MAAS behaves
in a 'cloudy' way, people might expect the same terminology that they
might find in EC2 or OpenStack, so security groups refer to hosts being
in some sort of group that all share the same firewall ruleset.

First crack:

* MAAS does not currently support network security groups or apply
firewall rules to individual nodes. Administrators desiring this
protection may customize nodes after installation. A future release of
MAAS may include this functionality (LP: #975468)

[Bug 988397] [NEW] Autofs does not clean up /proc/mounts when stopped

2012-04-25 Thread agenkin
Public bug reported:

After the autofs service is stopped, the autofs-related stuff still
persists in /proc/mounts. I think that the expected behaviour would be
for the /proc/mounts entries to be removed after the autofs daemon
stops.

As a workaround I found that unloading the autofs kernel module with
modprobe -r autofs4 results in /proc/mounts to be cleaned up of the
autofs stuff.

The consequence of this problem is that the system would not reboot
because the phantom /proc/mounts entries that autofs leaves behind
confuse the /etc/rc6.d/S40umountfs script and the fstab-decode command.
For the reference, I have reported the problems with those scripts as
bug #988394 .

In our case, after autofs is stopped and all directories that it mounted
are unmounted, /proc/mounts still contains the following entries:

/etc/auto.nfs_h /h autofs
rw,relatime,fd=6,pgrp=1004,timeout=300,minproto=5,maxproto=5,indirect 0 0
/etc/auto.nfs_s /s autofs
rw,relatime,fd=12,pgrp=1004,timeout=300,minproto=5,maxproto=5,indirect 0 0
/etc/auto.nfs_cdf /cdf autofs
rw,relatime,fd=18,pgrp=1004,timeout=300,minproto=5,maxproto=5,direct 0 0

Thanks!

[Bug 988421] [NEW] nagios3 check_load produces no output

2012-04-25 Thread PeterNSteinmetz
Public bug reported:

I am running a nagios3 server on ubuntu 10.04 server (nagios3
3.2.0-4ubuntu2.2) and a nrpe server on ubuntu 10.10 (nagios-nrpe-server
2.12-4ubuntu1.10.10.1, nagios-plugins 1.4.14-5ubuntu3)

Have these both basically up and running, and the server is able to run
a check_disk command on the npre server and receives results.

For a check_load command, however, the status information is '(No output
returned from plugin)'.

I have looked extensively on the web for this, and it appears there are
a number of reasons this may happen.

On the server, if I run
sudo su - nagios -c /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_nrpe -H 10.41.129.36 -c
check_load
there is nothing returned.

If I change the user from nagios to peter, then I get the expected
response.

On the nrpe server, the same thing is happening. If I run
sudo su - nagios -c /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_load -w 15,10,5 -c 30,25,20
there is nothing returned. If I change the user to peter it returns the
expected output.

I've tried making the plugins all owned by nagios:nagios, that doesn't
help. I've tried adding a line for nagios to sudoers file and then
adding the sudo command prefix, that doesn't fix it when invoking the
command on the nagios server. I've also tried adding the nagios user to
the admin group and that doesn't help.

I've enabled the debugging on the nrpe server, and for the command from
the nagios server, I see the connection and request in syslog when the
user is peter, but no such request when the user is nagios. Neither of
the local commands generate any syslog output.

It is difficult to understand why this command, check_load, on the nrpe
server is returning output for users 'peter' and 'root' but not for user
'nagios' when 'nagios' owns the executable.

When I check executing the check_disk command locally on the nrpe server with
sudo su - nagios -c /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_disk -w 20% -c 10% -p
/dev/sda1
it works and returns a report.

Curiously, if I change the nagios user to have a login shell, such as
/bin/bash, on the nrpe server, then the check_load command is returning
output, though still doesn't work from the nagios server. In neither
case, however, does the nagios user have a password.

Both the check_load and check_disk plugins are owned by nagios:nagios
and have -rwxr-xr-x permissions, so what is the difference?

/proc/loadavg is owned by root:root and has rw-r--r-- permissions, so
should be readable.

It appears this is a problem with the nagios user setup in the ubuntu
packaging. I have checked the upstream bug fixes to current and there is
nothing in nagios-plugin which would appear to address this issue.

sudo dpkg-reconfigure maas

It will ask for the IP address for the MAAS server and make the
necessary updates. Once that's done, please try 'maas-import-isos'

[Bug 715765] Re: Can't change kerberos password, pam-krb5 try_first_pass also fails

2012-04-25 Thread Russ Allbery
This bug was introduced in MIT Kerberos 1.10. After a failing
authentication with preauth required in a particular Kerberos context,
all subsequent authentications in that context that require preauth will
fail. Upstream has fixed this with commit 25822.

This is a fairly serious issue, blocking not only password change but
any other situation where multiple passwords are tried in the same
context, such as try_first_pass with PAM modules. You may want to try
to fix this before the precise release.

Actually, now that I look more at this, this may be an unrelated
problem. The problem I encountered was reported upstream as a password
change problem, but this may be a slightly different issue. I'll open

[Bug 988520] [NEW] After failed auth, subsequent auths in same context fail

2012-04-25 Thread Russ Allbery
Public bug reported:

MIT Kerberos 1.10 (including pre-releases and betas) exposed a bug in
the tracking of preauth mechanisms such that, if an authentication fails
after preauth was requested, all subsequent preauth-required
authentications in the same Kerberos context will also fail.

This breaks password change when credentials have expired, and also
breaks try_first_pass functionality in Kerberos PAM modules.

Upstream has fixed this problem in their mainline with commit 25822.

[Bug 988435] Re: Requires memcached to also be installed..

2012-04-25 Thread Dave Walker
** Description changed:

Horizon requires memcached to be installed, but not necessarily on the
  same machine. Suggesting Recommends.

- The current situation raises many 500 errors as it cannot be used.
+ The current situation raises many 500 errors as it cannot be used. This
+ was not initially noticed as horizon wasn't tested on a standalone
+ horizon install, and memcache was provided by other packages. This only
+ impacts machines soley running horizon.

This can be resolved by sudo apt-get install memcached

Resolving this as an SRU has a low risk of regression.

Package has been accepted into precise-proposed and should be copied to

change that there's no reason to defer this to the SRU process.

[Bug 986956] Re: lxc-execute does not work with commands that require input from terminal

2012-04-25 Thread Daniel Lezcano
The lxc-execute command is used for 'application container'. Usually,
the system container uses a rootfs and the application container do not
use a rootfs. So lxc is looking for if the rootfs option is set and then
setup the console.

Here lxc-execute is used with the rootfs, so it setup the console, that
is to say it maps /dev/console to /dev/tty.

Of course, that makes sense only if we have the applications writing to
/dev/console which is the case when the system containers boot. Doing
that with a shell is messy and we have problem with the tty.

 = Why is needed a rootfs with lxc-execute ?

There are 2 solutions to fix this problem:

 (1) do not specify the rootfs but ro-bind-mount the rootfs/usr to /usr and
the other needed directories.
 (2) change the code to have lxc-execute to take into account a rootfs but I
wouldn't recommend that because that will bring much more complexity and more
errors with the console by adding a new configuration combination. At least we
should decide to ignore the rootfs option when lxc-execute is used.

[Bug 988527] Re: package samba 2:3.5.8~dfsg-1ubuntu2.3 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-removal script returned error exit status 3

2012-04-25 Thread Ubuntu Foundation's Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your log files attached to this bug report it
seems that a package failed to install due to a segmentation fault in
application being used by the package installation process.
Unfortunately, this bug report isn't very useful in its current state
and a crash report would be much more useful. Could you try recreating
this issue by enabling apport to catch the crash report 'sudo service
apport start force_start=1' and then trying to install the same package
again? This process will create a new bug report so I am marking this
one as Invalid. Thanks again for helping out!

inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

* Re-create the init ramdisk, make sure your storage module is in the initrd
(what modules are in the initrd, vs what modules are loaded after boot and
everything
is working)
* Can you test this on 12.04 LTS (released April 26th) to see if it has the
same behaviour?
* Show the output of multipathd -kshow config
* Give the output of the following commands before creating the lv, after, and
after reboot
   * dmsetup ls --tree
   * dmsetup table

I suspect this can be fixed in the initrd.

David

[Bug 988635] [NEW] manpages.ubuntu.com mentions ECMAScript ; actual manpage in package does not

2012-04-25 Thread Moses Moore
Public bug reported:

moses@deunan:~$ curl -s
'http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/oneiric/man5/elinks.conf.5.html' |egrep
'Provided by|ECMAScript options'
Provided by: elinks-lite_0.12~pre5-3.2ubuntu1_i386
   ECMAScript options.

... thus, the manpage website says that elinks-lite 0.12~pre5-3.2ubuntu1
should mention 'ECMAScript' in the man page.

However:

moses@deunan:~$ sudo apt-get install elinks-lite
Setting up elinks-lite (0.12~pre5-3.2ubuntu1) ...
moses@deunan:~$ man elinks |grep -i ecma || echo not found.
not found.

... you can see that the man page that is actually installed by elinks-
lite 0.12~pre5-3.2ubuntu1 does not mention ECMAScript at all.

Hi, sorry it's taken so long for somebody to look at this bug.

Just out of interest, what version of multipath-tools are you using? I
saw somewhere that there was a change in configuration between 0.4.9 and
all earlier versions, but I'm not sure if that could do something like
this.

That's because 'python-keystoneclient' is in a separate package all by
itself. The source package is really called python-keystoneclient.

Hi David

1)What do mean storage module in the initrd, is it HBA driver module?

2)I have upgrade to 12.04 LTS this morning, don't see same behavior.
   Please see the unbutu_12.04_multipath.txt

3)see multipath configure in attachment

4)As you request, attach test result before and after creation of LVM
   And also reboot host.

Hi Vencent,

Here are some things you can try that might help narrow the problem:

* Re-create the init ramdisk, make sure your storage module is in the initrd
(what modules are in the initrd, vs what modules are loaded after boot and
everything
is working)
* Can you test this on 12.04 LTS (released April 26th) to see if it has the
same behaviour?
* Show the output of multipathd -kshow config
* Give the output of the following commands before creating the lv, after, and
after reboot
   * dmsetup ls --tree
   * dmsetup table

I suspect this can be fixed in the initrd.
