[Bug 1006898] Re: [SRU] dnsmasq fails at leasing issues when using vlan mode
Hey, sorry, with most I meant the documentation recommends using VlanManager (that is, VLAN mode) for networking. Although, you cannot rely on such a behaviour, IMHO, because it absolutely makes no sense to let hosts (that send a DHCPREQUEST) not receive their DHCPACK. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to dnsmasq in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1006898 Title: [SRU] dnsmasq fails at leasing issues when using vlan mode To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dnsmasq/+bug/1006898/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 1006898] Re: [SRU] dnsmasq fails at leasing issues when using vlan mode
Could this be more safely worked-around in openstack? forgot to comment on this one, well, I am no OpenStack expert, however, OpenStack nova-network relies on dnsmasq for propagating IP addresses via DHCP to their (KVM/...) instances, and OpenStack supports simple networking (w/o VLAN) and VLAN-networking, and thus, I don't see how OpenStack could work around this except using a different software than dnsmasq (something that actually works) - or don't use VLAN at all.

On 19/06/12 10:10, Chris Halse Rogers wrote: Additionally, I'd like to know what the likely impact of adding bind- interfaces to dnsmasq is on users. What (if anything) will break on users' systems? Three things change. 1) Dnsmasq loses the ability to provide service on dynamically created interface. If an interface doesn't exist when dnsmasq starts, dnsmasq will not be listening on that interface when it comes up. Similarly if an interface changes address. 2) --interface=non-existent interface becomes a fatal error. 3) The semantics of -interface changes. Without --bind-interfaces, --interface filters on packet arrival interface. With --bind-interface, --interface=iface becomes equivalent to --listen-address=address(es) of iface. So, on a multi-homed host, with --interface=eth0, a request sent to the address of eth0 which arrives from eth1 will be answered with --bind-interfaces, but not answered without it. Public bug reported: This is a systemic problem. Under the previous version I had installed the lexmark-inkjet-09-driver package which installed using a shell tar script. Unfortunately the description had one line with just a space in it. Not a blank line: a space. Now, 'dpkg' could report to me that this particular package had a blank line in the Description field of that particular package. If it could do that, why couldn't it just overcome this difficulty? And the line DID have a space in it! (I tried to use '}' and '{' in 'vi' to get to it, and failed. 'Dpkg' should be able to understand the same thing.) When I tried to install 12.04 over the previous version, MANY packages failed to install. They are now ghost images in the update manager, and I haven't yet figured how to get them to install. The user interface is missing such little things as the logout / lock screeen / reboot menu and any way to run apps that were not already buttons on the desktop. Help? You can unmount /mnt, pvcreate /dev/xvdb; vgcreate lxc /dev/xvdb; then use -B lvm as an additional lxc-create flag to create an lvm-backed container. SNapshotted lvm containers can be created wit lxc-clone -s -o p1 -n p2. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to lxc in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1014916 Title: simultaneously started lucid containers pause while starting after the first seven To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxc/+bug/1014916/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1011597] Re: [MIR] libfcgi-perl, libcgi-fast-perl
MIR Review for libfcgi-perl: * builds with only main enabled with no compiler warnings or errors * it has a small test script that is used in the build * no Ubuntu delta * has a watch file * the package is up to date * the package is lintian clean * debian/rules is clean * as mentioned, no bugs in LP or Debian Security review for libfcgi-perl: * This script provides a perl library so it doesn't ship any initscripts, upstart jobs, dbus services, daemons or cron jobs. No setuid or fscap'd programs are installed and there is no use of sudo. * There was one CVE in a deprecated interface, but it was fixed in a timely fashion with minimal effort. * For its C code - it creates its own wrapper functions for malloc and string operations, and these wrappers check return codes and ensure strings are nul terminated. Spot-checking use of sprintf, it is quite careful to make sure strings are the proper size, etc. - it uses strcpy() in a few places, but doesn't always verify the length of the src. However, where this happen stack-protector should intervene. It also looks like in these places on a very poorly written program would allow attacker control to these functions without input sanitizing. - OS_SpawnChild() doesn't use umask(0) when spawning a child, but as this is a library, it probably makes sense for callers of OS_SpawnChild() to do this. - it creates its own wrapper functions for read() and write().(OS_Read and OS_Write respectively). While the wrappers themselves don't check return codes, all usage of OS_Read() and OS_Write() do. ** Changed in: libfcgi-perl (Ubuntu) Status: New = Fix Committed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to libfcgi-perl in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1011597 Title: [MIR] libfcgi-perl, libcgi-fast-perl To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libfcgi-perl/+bug/1011597/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

Ok I've been able to reproduce this. I've tried with lvm snapshot containers - those did NOT do this. I don't understand why, unless it's simply the timing. [Bug 1015223] [NEW] cloud-init-nonet main process killed by TERM signal
Public bug reported: it has been reported in maas (and i think i've seen it other places) that the console may include: init: cloud-init-nonet main process (307) killed by TERM signal This message is scary to users, even though it is not fatal or even an indication of a problem. It occurs because the cloud-init-nonet's purpose in live is to block the running of cloud-init until the network devices are up. when upstart recognizes that 'static-network-up' it kills cloud-init-nonet, which allows cloud-init to start. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This looks like a local configuration problem, rather than a bug in Ubuntu. As such, I'm marking this bug as Invalid. Specifically, it looks like you have a problem with your /etc/postfix/main.cf or aliases files. You can find pointers to get help for this sort of problem here: http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community If you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it helpful to read How to report bugs effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem, and then change the bug status back to New. [Bug 1015223] Re: cloud-init-nonet main process killed by TERM signal
I'm adding an upstart task. I'm wondering if its even valid for upstart to log these at the default log priority. Perhaps they should be dropped to 'info' level. Killing a process as part of stopping the job is a perfectly normal situation and doesn't really seem to warrant logs. The only time I think it might be useful is when debugging issues with boot ordering, which would seem to be a good time to lower log priority to info anyway. ** Also affects: upstart (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to cloud-init in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1015223 Title: cloud-init-nonet main process killed by TERM signal To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cloud-init/+bug/1015223/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 978356] Re: squid3 gets killed at startup with dnsmasq and no networkmanager
** Description changed: + [ Test case ] + This is difficult to test as it is a race condition, however there are multiple users affected. + + 1. install squid3 on a system which has a system level network connection + 2. reboot + 3. on bootup, check to see if squid3 is running (service squid3 status). If it is not running, check /var/log/syslog and the system console for a message about squid3 being killed by SIGHUP. + 4. Install updated package + 5. repeat step 3, If it is running, this *might* be fixed (but as it is a race, there are no guarantees). + + [ Regression Potential ] + This update only touches the upstart job, so it will only affect that.
