[Bug 875440] Re: Cannot authenticate with saslauthd and mysql
So I tried to verify the upgrade consequences - I cloned my physical server into a VM and made the distribution upgrade from Oneiric to Precise. First let me state (and this has nothing to do with this bug *g), that the upgrade experience as really a pain in the a*s! Incredible.. AppArmor gets re-enabled which breaks a lot of stuff, you get prompted for a MySQL password change 5 times, Apache doesn't work anymore (have to figure that out) and so on - *major* annoyances to say it friendly ;-( Conclusion -- Anyway.. my conclusion is positive: The configuration I provided in comment #34 (see there) still works with the newest packages in Precise without any relinking and/or downgrading! At least in my case.. The generic error It didn't work out of the box - I DID GET the generic error message directly after the upgrading. Turns out, that it was an error with MySQL. MySQL gets upgraded to 5.5.. It seems that the database variable open_files_limit comes with a default value of 1024 after the upgrade. This is really low and reached already if you have some databases in my case. So I inserted one line in /etc/mysql/my.cnf which sets the limit really high to test it: [mysqld] open_files_limit = 99 Restart mysql at this point.. After that, I finally could send mails through the SMTP with working sasl auth! So the generic error in my case resulted from the fact that mysql did abort the auth query request with an error message because it didn't have any resources left.. (this error: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.5/en/not-enough-file-handles.html) Next step? -- Could please someone who upgraded to Precise and applied the config from comment #34 and still have the generic error check this mysql setting in their setup and verify that they really applied everything correctly? [Appendix] Versions of key packages in use now (working combination) postfix 2.9.1-5 mysql-server 5.5.24-0ubuntu0.12.04.1 libsasl2-dev 2.1.25.dfsg1-3ubuntu0.1 libsasl2-modules-sql 2.1.25.dfsg1-3ubuntu0.1 libsasl2-2 2.1.25.dfsg1-3ubuntu0.1 sasl2-bin 2.1.25.dfsg1-3ubuntu0.1 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to cyrus-sasl2 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/875440 Title: Cannot authenticate with saslauthd and mysql To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cyrus-sasl2/+bug/875440/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1024475] Re: libnss-ldap causes boot hang on Ubuntu 12.04 Precise
Hi gustavo, thanks for taking the time to file this bug report. Network interfaces have two modes. One is /etc/network/interfaces, and the other is NetworkManager. Which are you using? The former will bring up any interfaces as soon as udev detects them. It will also do a blanket bring up of any interfaces that aren't udev detected (like bridges and bonded interfaces) after udevtrigger finishes. The latter starts later, and is my dynamic about interfaces. Anyway, can you try booting with '--verbose noquiet' added to the kernel command line so we can see the messages being printed out. This should give an idea of what upstart jobs and services are being started that might be blocking the rest of the boot. ** Changed in: libnss-ldap (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete ** Changed in: libnss-ldap (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = High -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to libnss-ldap in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1024475 Title: libnss-ldap causes boot hang on Ubuntu 12.04 Precise To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libnss-ldap/+bug/1024475/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1022434] Re: sshd server crashes on startup
Any idea what /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/liblsp.so is? This seems to be related to the crash, but I can't figure out where this comes from. Is it part of Ubuntu? My search of all files that Ubuntu provides across all packages is coming up empty. Am I doing something wrong, or is this a third party library? I need debugging symbols from this library to understand the crash dump, but I can't find where to get them since I can't find a package in Ubuntu that provides it. The only Google hit is http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2013205 which looks like a similar crash and was fixed by reinstalling, which perhaps removed liblsp.so? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to openssh in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1022434 Title: sshd server crashes on startup To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openssh/+bug/1022434/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 1022434] Re: sshd server crashes on startup
It looks like freeaddrinfo is defined in libc.so.6, but on both of your systems it is being overridden by liblsp.so. Interestingly, this file isn't versioned, which is a bit odd. Is this LD_PRELOAD in use perhaps? Is this override intentional, or is this some kind of malware? Or am I completely missing some other completely innocent reason for this?
Hi Robie I think you may be onto something, but I don't have the knowledge to offer any concrete way forward. I have seen liblsp.so and libc.so.6 repeatedly referred to in the crash reports I am getting, but this could just be because these libraries are so basic to the system functioning. AFAIK these are part of the core c libraries used in the kernel, they are deep in the system. FYI sshd is now working on one of my computers, but I am equally puzzled as to why it started working again as to why it failed in the first place. I completely rebuilt the / partition, but this failed on its own to get sshd working. However, a few days and many reboots later, suddenly there it was, working. Possibly something else I downloaded in the interim made the difference, but it is a mystery what or why. I have attached my /var/log/apt/history.log from the machine in question, in case you can make anything of it. I don't know if this is a related issue, but as referred to in my message to Michael yesterday, apport or ubuntu-bug does not seem to be working properly either. This complicates the process of getting you the data. ** Attachment added: Package history from my computer where sshd is now mysteriously working. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openssh/+bug/1022434/+attachment/3223619/+files/history.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to openssh in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1022434 Title: sshd server crashes on startup To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openssh/+bug/1022434/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 1022434] Re: sshd server crashes on startup
This is just a thought, and I have no real evidence, but the problems started on my systems on or around the time I installed Eclipse and Python 3.2 to do some exploratory software work, just learning my way around Python. I also installed Pygame, which had to be compiled and installed manually to upgrade it to 3.2. Could there be a connection here? Since I rebuilt the machine that now works, it has all that stuff re- installed, so this really is just a speculation.
[Bug 997978] Re: KVM images lose connectivity with bridged network
Just to confirm Stephane in #39, all we did was modprobe vhost_net (and add it to /etc/modules) then stop and start all our VMs. libvirtd detected vhost_net and added the vhost=on parameter automatically to our VMs. So far no crashes. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to bridge-utils in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/997978 Title: KVM images lose connectivity with bridged network To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bridge-utils/+bug/997978/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
