Please could you try reproducing with the use of php5-xdebug if
possible? Might be the cause of this issue - just trying to rule things

[Bug 1037060] Re: openvswitch-datapath-dkms 1.4.2+git20120612-2ubuntu1: openvswitch kernel module failed to build

Dropping priority; the kernel provides the openvswitch module in 3.5 so
use of the DKMS package is not really required unless you want to use
the deprecated brcompat module.

[Bug 997978] Re: KVM images lose connectivity with bridged network

2012-08-16 Thread Gary Cuozzo
Regarding comment #55:
I don't believe this is a guest OS issue. In my comment #51 I also indicate
that I have had non-precise vm's (specifically 11.10) experience the same issue.

I have only experienced this issue when using 12.04 precise as the host
OS. On a customer server which I back-dated by reinstalling 11.10 as
the host OS, the issue went away.

[Bug 1032180] Re: maas ip change via sudo dpkg-reconfigure maas fails to completely reconfigure

2012-08-16 Thread James Page
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug in Ubuntu MAAS.

Cobbler is currently being removed from MaaS for 12.10 (with a possible
backport for 12.04).

As a result I'm going to make this as a 'Won't Fix' - as this will be
resolved when cobbler is removed from MaaS; this should leave the bug
around so if other people hit this issue in the meantime they can get
some general guidance on how to resolve.

Thanks

[Bug 1032183] Re: maas commission repository mirror

2012-08-16 Thread James Page
Hi Moose

I raised this in #maas on Freenode IRC:

{{{
jamespage allenap, does maas support using alternative archive mirrors yet?
say for folk who have a local mirror and no direct external access for servers
being managed by maas...
allenap jamespage: Nope, I don't think so. rvba, do you know different?
jamespage it uses squid-deb-proxy for localize caching right?
actually this might be related to commissioning only
 bug 1032183
ubot5 Launchpad bug 1032183 in maas (Ubuntu) maas commission repository
mirror [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1032183
allenap jamespage: Right, squid-deb-proxy is used. I didn't know off hand
because it's configured by the package. Our goal for 12.10 is to provide
caching by default and optional mirroring of everything that exists outside of
a user's data centre.
jamespage allenap, ta - thanks for the information - I'll update the bug
report
}}}

Looks like this will land for 12.10 if all goes to plan. squid-deb-
proxy is a more scalable alternative to apt-cacher-ng and is already
used in maas.

Marking 'Wishlist' (as its a feature request) and 'Triaged' as no
further action is required at this point in time.

Thanks

[Bug 1028501] Re: cloud-init selects wrong mirrors for arm

2012-08-16 Thread Scott Moser
** Description changed:

cloud-inits' mirror selection does not include any logic to account for arch.
the arm arch are not available on ec2 mirrors nor on *.archive.ubuntu.com .

The best work around at the moment is to disable mirror selection via:
- apt_preserve_sources_list: True
+  apt_preserve_sources_list: True

For juju, that can be done by modifying juju/providers/common/utils.py to
contain:
-  cloud_config = {
- apt-update: True,
- apt-upgrade: True,
- apt_preserve_sources_list: True,
- ssh_authorized_keys: authorized_keys,
- packages: [],
-  output: {all: | tee -a /var/log/cloud-init-output.log}}

* sudo apt-get install clamav (if not already installed) and once the

* With an appropriate test file (the thunderbird bz2 file that is
attached to the bug is one such file) run $ clamscan $FILENAME and you

* Install the updated packages from -proposed

* Run the test again and it should test OK (no error and no virus

Re: [Bug 997978] Re: KVM images lose connectivity with bridged network

2012-08-16 Thread Serge Hallyn
Quoting Gary Cuozzo (g...@isgsoftware.net):
 Regarding comment #55:
I don't believe this is a guest OS issue. In my comment #51 I also indicate
that I have had non-precise vm's (specifically 11.10) experience the same
 issue.

I have only experienced this issue when using 12.04 precise as the host
OS. On a customer server which I back-dated by reinstalling 11.10 as
the host OS, the issue went away.

Ah, thanks for that info.

If I push an updated version of qemu-kvm to ppa:ubuntu-virt/ppa, would you
(would anyone) be able to test it to confirm whether it fixes the issue?
If so then we could be sure the problem is in qemu userspace.

[Bug 1015405]

2012-08-16 Thread Scott Kitterman
For Debian/Ubuntu users, there is an update to 0.97.5 with the patch
that fixes this issue. For Debian it's in Unstable and should get to
Wheezy over the weekend and it's in stable-proposed-updates and should
get to stable-updates today. For Ubuntu the update is available as of
today for all releases.

[Bug 1037607] [NEW] vmbuilder completely fails on Quantal due to kernel pae detection failure

2012-08-16 Thread Robie Basak
Public bug reported:

Impact: this appears to stop vmbuilder from creating a Quantal VM
completely.

Evidently the kernel package now looks for /proc/cpuinfo in order to
check for PAE support (since PAE support is going away in Quantal). I
think this is failing because /proc doesn't exist in the environment
that vmbuilder is using.

Tested on a fresh Quantal cloud image, dist-upgraded and python-vm-
builder installed from the current Quantal archive. The only catch here
is that I did it on a virtual image, but I can't see how that would
affect this.

Possible solution: mount /proc inside the chroot?

[Bug 1037626] [NEW] lxc-create wastes disk space by keeping installation debs

2012-08-16 Thread Fajar A. Nugraha
Public bug reported:

A default ubuntu container created using lxc-create -n ubuntu -t
ubuntu results in 386M space used on /var/lib/lxc/ubuntu/rootfs. A big
part of that space is used by cached debs on
/var/lib/lxc/ubuntu/rootfs/var/cache/apt/archives/ . Running apt-get
clean inside the container's rootfs reduced space usage to 242M.

The wasted space becomes even more apparent if the backing store
supports compression (e.g. zfsonlinux with gzip compression enabled). In
this case the original used space (after compression) was 196M, and was
reduced to 95M after the cached package files are removed, over 50% disk
space saving.

Suggestion: Modify lxc-ubuntu template to run apt-get clean inside the
container's rootfs as part of container creation process.

[Bug 997978] Re: KVM images lose connectivity with bridged network

2012-08-16 Thread Gary Cuozzo
Hi Serge,
I would be willing to install your ppa packages. The only issue on my end is
that this problem only occurs every 3-4 weeks for me. So I don't think I would
be able to give any sort of concrete feedback for whether it addresses the
issue or not.

My customer's server was having the issue several times per week, but I
had to take action pretty quickly to keep them happy and chose to
backdate to 11.10. After 9 days, they have not had the issue, which
lends more evidence that it is not a guest-based issue but host-based.

[Blueprint servercloud-q-apt-improvements] Apt Improvements

2012-08-16 Thread Robie Basak
Blueprint changed by Robie Basak:

Whiteboard changed:
  Etherpad: http://pad.ubuntu.com/uds-q-servercloud-q-apt-improvements
  Blueprint:
https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/servercloud-q-apt-improvements
  Proposed spec: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/AptByHash
  Discussion:
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel/2012-July/035487.html

  = User Stories =
   * Jim is using JuJu, and adds a node. He does not want to see apt fail due
to a race condition.
   * Marley is using the Ubuntu installer for network based installs against a
local mirror that is updated from a remote mirror. He does not want installs
to fail due to the mirror being updated.
   * Sally wants to use a http proxy to cache deb downloads and does not want
to be vulnerable to caching mismatched files that would cause apt failures.

  = Assumptions =
  None

  = Test Plans =
Test will be conducted in 2 ways:
a.) implied test: much of our automated infrastructure relies on apt and
previously failed quite commonly due to apt. These errors should be erased.
b.) explicit test: we should ideally have some canary that would ensure our
public mirrors do not fail. One example starting point is [1]
     [1] https://code.launchpad.net/~smoser/+junk/check-archive/

  = Release Note =
Ubuntu's public mirrors now contain an improved archive format. Coupled with
updates to apt transient apt-update errors are a thing of the past.
+
+ Note: feature freeze is upon us, and I think this work is too invasive
+ for an FFe. My priorities mean that I can't work on this for the next
+ few weeks, so it looks like this will have to slip to R.

[Bug 1036043] Re: package mysql-server-5.5 5.5.24-0ubuntu0.12.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit code 1

2012-08-16 Thread diegotc
This problem appears after a mysql update. I suppose I got problems
during the installation.

This is the solution for solving this problem.
sudo apt-get purge mysql-server mysql-client mysql-common mysql-client-5.5
mysql-server-5.5
sudo apt-get autoremove
sudo apt-get autoclean

sudo rm -rf /etc/mysql

sudo apt-get install mysql-server mysql-common mysql-client

This answer I got it thanks to askubuntu.com.

[Bug 1031043] Re: -t ubuntu -- -h still creates container

2012-08-16 Thread Serge Hallyn
Note that lxc-create -t ubuntu -h would give the ubuntu template help
output and not leave a partially created container.

Because of the architecture of the lxc templates, there doesn't seem to
be a simple, clean way of having the lxc-create script clean up after
the ubuntu template was called with -h or --help. Two options are (1)
have lxc-create look for -h or --help in the template arguments, or (2)
have the ubuntu template return 1 (error) after --help.

I will take the first approach.

[Bug 1016695] Re: add console=tty1 to cloud-image kernel boot parameters

2012-08-16 Thread Scott Moser
Jeremiah,
The process for making changes to stable releases is the Stable Release
Updates [1]. It does not 100% apply here since it is only a change to the
image building process. But similar care should be taken. I'd like to see it
bake a while in the cloud-image in quantal to avoid regression.

[Bug 1037727] [NEW] support adding region/availability to mirror selection

2012-08-16 Thread Scott Moser
Public bug reported:

currently, the ec2 datasource has some code that selects the mirror location by
looking at the availability-zone.
I think this is generally a pretty good idea. I'd like to extend that to other
datasources, and not limit to .ec2.archive.ubuntu.com.

The goal would be to basically check for a mirror at:
  availability-zone[.cloud][dns-subdomain]

dns subdomain would default to '.cloud.archive.ubuntu.com'.

if the datasource provided the 'cloud' value, we'd use that, but
otherwise just use availability-zone.

This would fit in with what we're currently doing on ec2, but would extend to
others.
I'd just treat the cc-direction-[0-9] availability-zones specially, to know
that this is an ec2 one. Then basically append .ec2 in that case.

[Bug 1017978] Re: [MIR] libfcgi, ceph (radosgw)

2012-08-16 Thread Clint Byrum
After discussing with yehudasa and Sage on #ceph (openprojects), I think
there is a desire to have radosgw in main. It is strategic from the
standpoint of being a backend for glance already and a good stand alone
S3 service even without keystone support.

So, now that libfcgi seems ready for main, I think we should also re-
evaluate the latest radosgw code and consider promoting it to main for
quantal.

2012-08-16 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Regarding radosgw, did they rewrite it? The lack of defensive
programming coupled with processing network traffic and the large amount
of code made me very uneasy, so much so I made it a condition of the MIR
to compile with --without-radosgw.

Fixed segfault in rrdcached when starting without having the journal
directory available: canonicalize the journal path after creating the
directory; else, realpath(3) will return NULL causing strdup() to
segfault. Also, check the return value of realpath(3) before further using
it. Thanks to Helmut Grohne for reporting this (Closes: #664724).

[Bug 1017978] Re: [MIR] libfcgi, ceph (radosgw)

2012-08-16 Thread Yehuda Sadeh
We fixed all the issues that were pointed out, and it was already ready for
precise. At the time it was communicated that the main issue for not including
radosgw was libfcgi, however, that doesn't appear to be an issue any more.
We've also created a test suite for radosgw (github.com/ceph/s3-tests.git) that
beyond functionality tests it also does fuzzing.
