[Bug 1069603] Re: MAASAPINotFound: No user data available for this node.

2012-10-22 Thread Thiago Martins
Hi!

When I start using Juju (for the first time today), this message
disappear for the node that was Ready and then I bootstrap it
through Juju...

But all my nodes that I allocate to root, by clicking on Start node
button (via MaaS Weg GUI), trigger this message on maas.log.

Best,
Thiago

I think it might makes sense to make MAAS owns DHCP without DNS, but
that's not the case currently.

MAAS either manages DHCP and DNS or you have to manage both yourself.

[Bug 1069584] Re: MaaS only with DHCP managed seems to require DNS too.

2012-10-22 Thread Raphaël Badin
MAAS supports managing DHCP but not DNS. The problem is that the task
'write_full_dns_config' (connected via signals) is always triggered
(when a nodegroup is changed or a node updated). We simply need to skip
actually trying to write the configuration if none of the cluster has
been configured to manage DNS.

Workaround: simply ignore the error and do not install maas-dns if you
don't want to have MAAS manage a DNS server.

The distributions (Ubuntu and Debian) provide only the latest upstream
release. You should upgrade to PHP 5.4, or you will have to compiled PHP
from sources if you want to use 5.3.x version (which is being phased out
by upstream).

This is actually not a bug, but a request for a feature which is not
generaly available in Debian/Ubuntu.

[Bug 1069138] Re: After upgrading to 12.10 I can't install PHP 5.3

2012-10-22 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for your report.

New Ubuntu releases are supposed to carry updated packages. If you need
packages to remain at a particular version then the recommended way of
doing this is to continue using the Ubuntu release that contains them.
To help you with this, regular releases are supported for 18 months, and
LTS releases are supported for five years. By upgrading, you chose to
upgrade all the packages on your system. I'm sorry if you didn't realise
this.

In your case, as the php package you need is available in 12.04 which
happens to be an LTS, you can carry on using 12.04 to have your required
php version with security updates until 2017. Alternatively, you could
use 12.10 on your own machine but do your development in an lxc
container, virtual machine or cloud instance on 12.04.

I understand the difficulty you're facing and hope that this gives you
some alternatives. But since the upgrade of php in 12.10 is by design
and in line with the Ubuntu release process, it is not a bug and so I am
marking this bug as Invalid. However, please do continue to report any
other bugs that you might find.

[Bug 1068433] Re: Collecting and plotting the uptime is pointless

2012-10-22 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Based on Kenyon's feedback, I'm not sure that there is a clear reason to
go either way. So I don't think it makes sense for Ubuntu to arbitrarily
operate differently from Debian on this point, and it is easier to keep
the behaviour the same as Debian. Would you like to file a bug with
Debian to see what they say about it? If the Debian maintainer agrees
with and makes this change, then Ubuntu will end up picking it up unless
there's a good reason not to (and I don't see one).

I think it would be misleading to leave this bug open as that would
imply that Ubuntu may change the behaviour in the future. So I'm marking
this as Won't Fix, but please note that this applies to an Ubuntu delta
only. We can still track a separate Debian status in this bug, and if
Debian changes the behaviour, it will in all likelyhood be picked up by
Ubuntu at the next merge.

[Bug 1069570] Re: 1 MAC Address, two IPs - DNS is out of sync with DHCP leases databases, I think...

2012-10-22 Thread Raphaël Badin
Actually, I think you're seeing two distinct problems here:

- The first one is that the default hostname picked up during enlistment
is IP-based and thus it assumes that the IP lease will stay the same.
If the lease changes, this change is not reflected in the DNS config
because this is resolved by a fixed A record in the config file (and not
a CNAME record which is only written when the node has a non-ip-based
hostname) A workaround is to actually rename your node to something not
IP-based.

- The other problem (dhcpd: Can't create new lease file: Permission
denied) is something I've never seen and needs investigation. I don't
think that changing the permissions of /var/lib/maas/dhcp will solve the
problem. The DHCP server that MAAS manages is setup exactly the same
way that the default dhcp is setup (the one which has its lease files in
/var/lib/dhcp). The fact that you're seeing this problem only once
leads me to think that this happens when the DHCP server rewrites the
dhcp lease file.

Here is a extract from the DHCP server documentation:

The lease file is rewritten occasionally to prevent excessive file growth. A
temporary file is created containing the current lease file, the last file is
renamed with a ~ suffix (e.g. /var/lib/dhcpd/dhcpd.leases~), then the temporary
file is renamed to the configured lease file name.

I suspect that the temporary file is written in /var/lib/dhcpd/ and that
something prevents that file from being written. Maybe the current apparmor
profile is too restrictive (http://paste.ubuntu.com/1297105/). Thiago, do you
see apparmor-related errors in the logs around the time the dhcp error pops up?

[Bug 1046340] Re: ntp package missing logcheck exceptions file /etc/logcheck/ignore.d.server/ntp

2012-10-22 Thread Robie Basak
The change appears to have been made by Debian in 1:4.2.6+dfsg-1. The
corresponding Debian bug is http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=498992

Looking at the bug and at the changelog entry (Remove
ntp.logcheck.ignore.server, none of those messages are send to syslog
now.), I get the impression that the intention was that this file was
presumed not needed because ntpd isn't supposed to log messages to
syslog any more.

Is there something on Ubuntu that makes ntpd behave differently? Is this
due to our use of rsyslog? Or does this bug also affect Debian now due
to some change in logging in Debian since then?

[Bug 1069529] [NEW] No graph updates after upgrade to 12.10 because date.timezone not set in php.ini

2012-10-22 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

After release upgrading from 12.04 to 12.10, I remarked that the graphs
are not updated anymore and the modify date of the files in
/var/lib/cacti/rra was a timestamp before the upgrade.

I had many lines in /var/log/cacti/poller-error.log like this one:
PHP Warning: date(): It is not safe to rely on the system's timezone settings.
You are *required* to use the date.timezone setting or the
date_default_timezone_set() function. In case you used any of those methods and
you are still getting this warning, you most likely misspelled the timezone
identifier. We selected the timezone 'UTC' for now, but please set
date.timezone to select your timezone. in
/usr/share/cacti/site/lib/functions.php on line 486

According to the FAQ page of cacti, I adjusted the php.ini in /etc/php5/cli and
/etc/php5/apache2:
http://docs.cacti.net/faq#time_zone_warning

According to the PHP documentation, the behaviour in PHP 5.4 changed:
http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.date-default-timezone-get.php

First I thought that it is a bug of the packages php5-cli and
libapache2-mod-php5 which do not set the date.timezone in their respective
php.ini files. You can see that if you execute the following 2 commands:
dpkg-query --control-show libapache2-mod-php5 postinst
dpkg-query --control-show php5-cli postinst

There is only the default php.ini from the package copied without
setting the date.timezone variable or let the user choose one.

But then I recognized, that the PHP script is executed to the end, also
if the date.timezone variable is not set in php.ini

Let me demonstrate this in 3 examples:

1) Ubuntu 11.10 with timezone Europe/Zurich in /etc/timezone, no date.timezone

They are listed for the mysql-5.1 and mysql-5.5 packages (see e.g.,

but not for mysql-dfsg-5.1 (see e.g., http://people.canonical.com

[Bug 1069529] Re: No graph updates after upgrade to 12.10 because date.timezone not set in php.ini

2012-10-22 Thread Paul Gevers
I believe that the php5 source package in Ubuntu (Debian) tries to make
sure that in Ubuntu this is not necessary (I see patches related to
using . Therefor I assume something is broken in those patches, and I
reassign to php5. If somebody with more php knowledge could look into
this...

Cacti just relies on php returning the proper timezone. If php can not
do that, Cacti will also not be able to do that better.
