[Bug 998712] Re: domain name completion broken when dnsmasq is used
seems that strict-order is the way to go [...] Can that be automated [...]? There has been a discussion about the problem and possible solutions in bug #1003842. I most recently expressed my opinion in comment #41 of that ticket. It takes a long time to resolve the name Why do you think that is there a long delay in resolving the name? Does the first nameserver not respond right away? Is the delay resolving internal names different from the delay resolving external names? Is there also a delay when you disable nm-dnsmasq (comment out dns=dnsmasq, etc.) so that resolv.conf lists multiple nameservers? Is this delay just as long as the delay when you are using nm-dnsmasq? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to dnsmasq in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/998712 Title: domain name completion broken when dnsmasq is used To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dnsmasq/+bug/998712/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 1088720] Re: facter virtual runs lspci unconditionally
Thanks elmo! This appears fixed in Quantal and Raring. On highbank, I get noise from lspci, but it appears suppressed in Quantal's facter (1.6.9-2ubuntu1), whereas it isn't suppressed in Precise. I can't test highbank's Raring due to a separate issue, and on armadaxp's Raring lspci appears to not generate any noise anyway. But Raring's facter is also on 1.6.9-2ubuntu1, and this appears fixed upstream, so I'll presume it is fixed in Raring. ** Changed in: facter (Ubuntu) Status: New = Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to facter in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1088720 Title: facter virtual runs lspci unconditionally To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/facter/+bug/1088720/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 998712] Re: domain name completion broken when dnsmasq is used
First the bad news. Name resolution drops after a few minutes of inactivity (approx. 30mins). Same phenomenon as before. Second: The name server answers as soon as the request arrives. dnsmasq obviously takes some time to determine if it can serve the name itself. So back to square one: disabling dnsmasq: immediate and correct name resolution (I am talking about not recognisable delays). enabling dnsmasq the problems begin (with a difference if set to strict-order). Name resolution takes Name resolution after reboot and resume now work fine. Unfortunately after some time it does not any more. Same symptoms as without strict- order. Just read the man-pages: -o serves in the order resolv.conf offers! but here is what my resolv.conf looks like # Dynamic resolv.conf(5) file for glibc resolver(3) generated by resolvconf(8) # DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BY HAND -- YOUR CHANGES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN nameserver 127.0.1.1 search rsb.intern rsb.at So it refers to itself. There is no dnsmasq.conf file where the dns servers are defined (not installed by default). Network manager just starts dnsmasq but hat no information about the network either.
[Bug 998712] Re: domain name completion broken when dnsmasq is used
The -o option is the same as the strict-order option. The dnsmasq man page says that in strict-order mode dnsmasq uses the order from /etc/resolv.conf but we shouldn't take that too literally since dnsmasq obtains nameserver addresses from sources other than /etc/resolv.conf. The dnsmasq process controlled by NetworkManager obtains its nameserver addresses from NetworkManager over D-Bus. I *presume* that nameserver addresses obtained by dnsmasq over D-Bus are checked in the order received in strict-order mode, but I haven't confirmed this. To see what nameserver addresses NM has sent to nm-dnsmasq, run the nm- tool command and look for the DNS: line.

[Bug 1089342] Re: Postfix uses temporary IPv6 address for outbound connections
What we ship now is the upstream default and that is the correct thing to do by default. I think it's a fair point to discuss if, given the increasing availability of IPv6, there should be a debconf question about this. I think it would make sense to add it as a low priority (not normally asked) question so the answer can be pre-seeded. I think the documentation (as usual for postfix) is excellent. When I ran into this problem myself, I was able to solve it using the available documentation. Postfix documentation is not, however, aimed at new postfix users. It would probably make sense to add a discussion about this to the Ubuntu Server Guide. ** Also affects: ubuntu-docs (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: ubuntu-docs (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Medium ** Changed in: ubuntu-docs (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed ** Changed in: ubuntu-docs (Ubuntu) Milestone: None = ubuntu-13.04-beta-1 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to postfix in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1089342 Title: Postfix uses temporary IPv6 address for outbound connections To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/postfix/+bug/1089342/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1089218] Re: Merge munin 2.0.9-1 (main) from Debian experimental
This bug was fixed in the package munin - 2.0.9-1ubuntu1 --- munin (2.0.9-1ubuntu1) raring; urgency=low * Merge from Debian unstable (LP: #1089218). Remaining changes: - d/munin-node.upstart,munin.upstart: Add upstart configurations. - debian/patches/fix_ran_out_of_children.patch: + Fix occasional Ran out of children: No child processes error messages (LP: #1009357). munin (2.0.9-1) experimental; urgency=low * New upstream bugfix release(s). - Drop all debian/patches/ (except 100-DejaVu-Fonts-Path.patch) as they were included in 2.0.7-2.0.9. * Remove libcgi-fast-perl from munin's depends. * Add libapache2-mod-fcgid to munin's suggests. * Support libapache2-mod-fcgid in /etc/munin/apache.conf out of the box (Closes: #695228), remove configuration for libapache2-mod-fastcgi as it's non-free. * debian/rules: set MUNIN_VERSION correctly during build. (Closes: #694527) munin (2.0.6-2) UNRELEASED; urgency=low * munin-node.postinst: delete /var/lib/munin(-node)/plugin-state recursively on purge. The plugin-state is outdated after a few minutes anyway. (Closes: #687715) * Fix /etc/apache2/conf.d/munin removed on upgrade: - debian/munin.postinst: create symlink for new installs and also for upgrades from versions where it was still removed (up to 1.4.6-3) but not re-created (from 1.4.6-1 onwards). Thanks to Gregor Herrman for the patch and intrigeri for reviewing. (Closes: #677943) * Add documentation for munin-async, thanks to Daniel Black. (Closes: #681803) * Patch node/munin-node.conf.in to allow incoming IPv6 from localhost, mostly to document that IPv6 addresses are allowed as well. Thanks to Daniel Black. (Closes: #676798) This is debian/patches/238-munin-node-ipv6allow.patch * HTMLConfig.pm: cherry-pick 789c59e from 2.0.7 to avoid (using the default configuration) /var/log/munin/munin-html.log being flooded with 106 lines of noisy warnings (out of 112 lines in total) every 5min. (Closes: #689291) This is debian/patches/239-fix-too-many-warnings-in-munin-graph.log.patch * munin-doc: Break and replace munin-common 2. (Closes: #694355) * selinux_avcstat plugin: Do not use the read without variable bashism, thanks to intrigeri for the patch. (Closes: #690711) This is 240-Do-not-use-the-read-without-variable-bashism.patch * Have master support multi-homed nodes that only listen on IPv4. (Closes: #678662) This is upstream commit a18229c5, thanks to Michael Renner for the testing and the patch! This is debian/patches/241-master-connect-to--and-A-address.patch * Fix wrong assumption about Net::SSLeay::CTX_set_options return value. Thanks to intrigeri for this patch. (Closes: #675377) This is 242-Fix-wrong-assumption-about-Net-SSLeay-CTX_set_option.patch * http_loadtime plugin: fix stderr redirection (which broke the plugin completely) (Closes: #691448) This is 243-http_loadtime-fixed-stderr-redirection-with-time.patch * apt_all plugin: the apt_all plugin has its state updated in cron. There the ENV var MUNIN_PLUGSTATE doesn't exist, so we need to set a default. (Closes: #687495). This has been in included in 2.0.7 and is debian/patches/244-fix-apt_all-plugin-statedir-for-cron.patch * munin-async.init: Run munin-async after munin-node has been started. (Closes: #691390) - Thanks to Daniel Black for this and the next two fixes: * munin-async.postinst: fix /var/lib/munin-async ownership (once on upgrades from previous versions) and for new installs. (Closes: #691309) * munin-async.logrotate: correct location of munin-async logfiles. (Closes: #691758) * Use dh --with quilt so that the patches are actually applied. (Closes: #691327) * Drop 101-suppress-occasional-unknown-states-to-avoid-alerts.patch which is included since munin 1.4.4. munin (2.0.6-1) unstable; urgency=high * New upstream release 2.0.6, switching back to cron graphing (as it better for small setups) and besides that only containing bugfixes, but many of them. See the upstream ChangeLog for the full list. - munin-node: more secure state file handling, introducing a new plugin state directory root, owned by uid 0. Then each plugin runs in its own UID plugin state directory, owned by the said UID. (Closes: #684075), (Closes: #679897), closes CVE-2012-3512. So all properly written plugins will use /var/lib/munin-node/plugin-state/$uid/$some_file now - please report plugins that are still using /var/lib/munin/plugin-state/ - as those might pose a security risk! - munin-cgi-graph: ignore @ARGV to fix CVE-2012-3513 (Closes: #684076), thanks to Helmut Grohne hel...@subdivi.de - munin-cron: call munin-graph with --cron argument (Closes: #685343) - Master/Node.pm: fix _node_read_fast() to accept all valid returns (Closes: #686089) and _do_connect()

[Blueprint servercloud-r-juju-charm-testing] Juju Charm Testing
Blueprint changed by Antonio Rosales: Whiteboard changed: Discussion: *Bug submission on charm failure. *Define a process around how charm maintainers respond to test failures and subsequent bugs. Can a user run a manual test and submit the test back to the bug report to update testing status to green. *Enable Autocharm tester to be more resilient against provider failures, and Jenkins usage. simulate provider failure, and be able to recover: $ juju ssh MACHINE sudo shutdown now - * Define work items to execute auto charm testing on Go. + * Define WIs to execute auto charm testing on Go. * Continuous Integration (also will help with gating on charm commits) - * Juju Testing Blogging - * Juju testing communication to Juju lists. + * Juju Testing Blogging + * Juju testing communication to Juju lists. [Blueprint servercloud-r-juju-charmhelper2] Charm Helper 2 - Declarative Charming
Blueprint changed by Antonio Rosales: Whiteboard changed: --- User Stories --- --- Risks --- --- Test Plans --- --- Release Note --- --- Blog Post --- - (Needs spec and work item definition) -[a.rosales; 12-DEC-2012] + (Needs spec and WI definition) -[a.rosales; 12-DEC-2012] --- UDS Discussion --- We've learned a lot since the creation of charm helper. Debian packagers took 7 iterations before boiling all of debhelper's goodness into a declarative system. We can learn from them, and get there in our second iteration. Discussion: Charm-helper is not easily discoverable, poorly documented, and not as awesome as it could be. dannf likes to write makefiles sources list config settings with meaning want common things to go in a declarative charm get rid of copied lib files/folder Maintain charm-helper seperately from juju, calling it at the top of the hook vs included in juju trunk What happens during upgrade-charm or if a pakcage gets removed? Juju can't help with leader election across units of a service, but charm-helper could) Work: - describe how to handle lifecycle changes for packages in charm-helper/packages (also thinkof: upgrade-charm) - install packages - debconf preseeding too - templating and/or building config files with dotd/concat partials (erb_template _and_ cheetah_template helpers)? - remote_files - deploy from {distro, ppa, upstream?} ? - Manage config files (dynamic, static, etc) - Sanitize relation settings (potential risk of SQL Ejection, highjacking, terror) - Plugin based for easy extension of charm-helper - leader election (perhaps somewhere other than charmhelper) - private files (SSL certs) ... no clue... - Collaborate on files that no charm owns -- Charm Helper 2 - Declarative Charming https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/servercloud-r-juju-charmhelper2 -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
