[Bug 1160372] Re: Login is not possible

2013-05-10 Thread GrayBear
Probably everyone who had the unfortunate idea to upgrade to ubuntu
13.04 in the recent days can't use vsftpd anymore.

First I get the error ubuntu vsftpd: PAM unable to dlopen(pam_smbpass.so)
and then ubuntu vsftpd: PAM audit_log_acct_message() failed: Operation not
permitted

[Bug 729257] Re: enabling INETD_COMPAT in xinetd forces -inetd_ipv6

2013-05-10 Thread LtWorf
This was done because that's the default inetd behavior and xinetd must
be usable as drop-in replacement.

You could still use xinetd disabling the compatibility.

[Bug 1178689] [NEW] file .etckeeper modified and not autocommited

2013-05-10 Thread MarianoAbsatz
Public bug reported:

I've been using etckeeper with mercurial in all my hosts for a while
with the setting:

AVOID_DAILY_AUTOCOMMITS=1
AVOID_COMMIT_BEFORE_INSTALL=1

in order to know what I change manually (outside apt-get
install/upgrade).

However, with some frequency (usually when some post-install script
creates or deletes a file or it changes its properties), the file
/etc/.etckeeper is modified accordingly (during the apt-get process) and
this change is NOT commited, thus next time I run apt-get I get a
message preventing me for doing so only to find out (by running 'hg st')
that the only change was made to .etckeeper during the last apt-get run.

This happens regardles of the version of ubuntu or etckeeper.

[Bug 1178721] [NEW] multipathd fails to create mappings when multipath.conf is present

2013-05-10 Thread Jernej Jakob
Public bug reported:

I have a SAN connected via a dual-port HBA that I'm trying to get to
work with multipath.

I'm running 12.04.2 installed via netboot (clean install).
Setup options: partitioning=guided with LVM (onto internal DRAC 6/i RAID)
packages=Basic server,OpenSSH,Virtual machine host

Out of the box things work okay:

root@PE2950:~# multipath -ll

`-+- policy='round-robin 0' prio=1 status=active
  |- 3:0:0:1 sdb 8:16 active ready running
  `- 4:0:1:1 sdc 8:32 active ready running

mappings are created:

Then I created /etc/multipath.conf with following contents (mostly
copied from running multipathd config):

root@PE2950:~# ll /etc/multipath.conf

[Bug 1176202] Re: ipmitool 1.8.12 needs -C3 to work with lanplus

2013-05-10 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

This sounds like a regression between 1.8.11-5ubuntu1 and 1.8.12 (please
could you clarify the exact package version with the problem?). It seems
likely to me that this has been carried through from an upstream
regression. Or perhaps we've accidentally dropped a patch.

Please could you test the upstream version compiled from source, and
file a bug upstream if appropriate? It would be better not to introduce
a delta against upstream for this, so if this issues applies upstream
and they can fix the issue, then that would be the best way to resolve
this problem.

Marking Importance: Medium as a workaround is available.

[Bug 1177672] Re: php5-gd not supported image/x-ms-bmp

2013-05-10 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Please could you report version information about the affected package?
The command apport-collect 1177672 will automatically attach all the
correct and relevant information to this bug for you.

Please also include exact steps that a developer can use to reproduce
this bug.

Please also test the latest development version and/or the upstream code
compiled from source. It seems likely that this problem may affect
upstream too, in which case this bug should be reported there.

Once done, please change the bug status back to New.

Thanks!

[Bug 1178739] [NEW] Please merge etckeeper 1.3 (main) from debian unstable (main)

2013-05-10 Thread Andres Rodriguez
Public bug reported:

 etckeeper (1.3ubuntu1) saucy; urgency=low
 .
   * Merge from Debian unstable. Remaining changes:
 - etckeeper.conf, debian/control: default to bzr.
 - commit.d/50vcs-commit: Avoid failure in initial commit if etckeeper is
not installed from a tty (like early during installation).
 - etckeeper: Ensure that LANG is set, default to UTF8, necessary for bzr
to function properly in non-interactive shells (eg, cron); user's local
   LANG will override if set.
 - debian/control: Added dependency on hostname.
 - README: Update tutorial to use bzr.
 - Makefile: Do not call the etckeeper.spec target in clean because it
does not really clean the build, but rather the called target modifies
the spec file instead of cleaning.
 .
 etckeeper (1.3) unstable; urgency=low
 .
   * Fix type -p bashism that crept in via recent patches. Closes: #707319
 .
 etckeeper (1.2) unstable; urgency=low
 .
   * Call type -p in a more compatable way.
   * When a file is owned by a uid or a gid with no corresponding user or
group, put a numeric chown into .etckeeper. Previously, a broken
 chown was outputted.
 .
 etckeeper (1.1) unstable; urgency=low
 .
   * Fix warning when PUSH_REMOTE is not set. Closes: #706917
 .
 etckeeper (1.0) unstable; urgency=low
 .
   [ Joey Hess ]
   * Unset GIT_DIR and GIT_WORK_TREE. Closes: #689101
   * PUSH_REMOTE can be set to automatically push to a remote on commit.
 Thanks, L. Alberto Giménez
   * Ignore fake-hwclock.data. Closes: #701491
 .
   [ Jelmer Vernooij ]
   * Auto-detect the VCS setting if there already is a repository in
 /etc.

  [ASSUMPTIONS]

  - Mims/Castro want to mirror how OpenStack does reviews and code

  - There's only so much simplification that can happen when it comes to

  - Poor response time leads people to believe that we don't want to help them.
  - Workflow ties into the store, so we need to be careful on how we simplify
this.

   *Bug submission on charm failure.
*Define a process around how charm maintainers respond to test failures and
subsequent bugs. Can a user run a manual test and submit the test back to the

*Enable Autocharm tester to be more resilient against provider failures, and
Jenkins usage.
simulate provider failure, and be able to recover: $ juju ssh MACHINE

   * Define WIs to execute auto charm testing on Go.
   * Continuous Integration (also will help with gating on charm commits)

   * Juju testing communication to Juju lists.
   * Work on integrating/fixing Charm runner (graph testing/ dependency/env set

environments:

   -raring container on precise host
   -precise container on raring host
   -precise container on precise host

  [ASSUMPTIONS]

  - Mims/Castro want to mirror how OpenStack does reviews and code

AFAIRemember (can't check right now) the exteenal GD 2.0.x doesn't have
support for wbmp. Thus not a bug, but feature request that can only be
solved with GD 2.1 and PHP 5.5.

But I might be wrong, check ext/gd/gd.c in !GD_BUNDLED part.

  [RELEASE NOTE/BLOG]

  --- UDS Discussion ---

We've learned a lot since the creation of charm helper. Debian packagers
took 7 iterations before boiling all of debhelper's goodness into a
declarative system. We can learn from them, and get there in our second
iteration.
  Discussion:
Charm-helper is not easily discoverable, poorly documented, and not as
awesome as it could be.
  dannf likes to write makefiles
  sources list
  config settings with meaning
want common things to go in a declarative charm
get rid of copied lib files/folder
Maintain charm-helper seperately from juju, calling it at the top of the hook
vs included in juju trunk
What happens during upgrade-charm or if a pakcage gets removed?
Juju can't help with leader election across units of a service, but
charm-helper could)
  Work:
  - describe how to handle lifecycle changes for packages in
charm-helper/packages (also thinkof: upgrade-charm)
  - install packages
  - debconf preseeding too
  - templating and/or building config files with dotd/concat partials
(erb_template _and_ cheetah_template helpers)?
  - remote_files
  - deploy from {distro,ppa,upstream?} ?
  - Manage config files (dynamic, static, etc)
  - Sanitize relation settings (potential risk of SQL Ejection, highjacking,
terror)
  - Plugin based for easy extension of charm-helper
  - leader election (perhaps somewhere other than charmhelper)
  - private files (SSL certs) ... no clue...
  - Collaborate on files that no charm owns
+
+ ---
+ [notes from cloudsprint 2013-05]
+ - Wedgewood has “Charm Support” which is used in IS and online services charms
+ - Python based library
+ - Covers debian packaging
+ -
+ - Command line interface
+ - Bash support via argparse
+ - Has hook env for handling various hook specific items (nrpe, relation
data, etc)
+ - Exec.d allows you to pre-seed stuff in to charm prior to deployment to
perform “pre-install” tasks
+ - Handles items as exec.d/charm-pre-install in various hooks by invoking
the matching command
+ - “Rudimentary” persistent storage support
+ - Charm helpers doesn’t do what they wanted it to. Charm-helpers wasn’t a
known until after using charm support.
+ - OpenStack has “openstack-charm-helpers” which is used by the OpenStack
charms for deployment
+ - Configuration/relation abstracting for easier python support
+ - “Storage” management like charm-support
+ - Conditional restart of services, mapping dicts to services to manage
restart of services
+ - Caching of juju environment data, to speed up hook execution
+ - Local file syncs between peers
+ - Bi-directional file xfer between peers
+ - Didn’t use it because: Primitive, moving too fast, and didn’t achieve
anything they needed at the time.
+- Current work: lp:~openstack-charmers/openstack-charm-helpers/ha-helpers
+
+ Gary’s Ideas:
+ - Python helpers of charm-helpers
+ - Three levels of stuff
+ - Shelltoolbox
+ - Current charm helpers
+ - some random lib stuff?
+ - utils.py branch/release management
+ - backend.py specify repos that a config wants, packages. Does really cool
python stuff
+
+ TIME TO GET DOWN TO BUSINESS
+ - Salt/chef/puppet for potential dropins to research. Configuration
management tools and how they solve this
+ - Look at openstack for management of shared libraries
+ - Python package
+- Sub packages and modules
+ - Merge proposals for charms, make libs not txt?
+
+
+
+ Marco scratch
+ machine.py for machine level functionality

[Bug 1178739] Re: Please merge etckeeper 1.3 (main) from debian unstable (main)

2013-05-10 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package etckeeper - 1.3ubuntu1

---
etckeeper (1.3ubuntu1) saucy; urgency=low

  * Merge from Debian unstable (LP: #1178739).
- Makefile: Do not call the etckeeper.spec target in clean because it
modifies the spec file instead of cleaning it.

etckeeper (1.3) unstable; urgency=low

  * Fix type -p bashism that crept in via recent patches. Closes:
#707319

etckeeper (1.2) unstable; urgency=low

  * Call type -p in a more compatable way.
  * When a file is owned by a uid or a gid with no corresponding user or
group, put a numeric chown into .etckeeper. Previously, a broken

[Bug 1177398] Re: init-script status method doesn't handle instances correctly

2013-05-10 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

You have not included any package version information in your report.

Looking at /etc/init.d/memcached supplied by 1.4.14-0ubuntu1, it looks
to me that support for stopping multiple instances is already included.
I haven't looked closely, but it isn't clear to me whether you are
looking at an older version of the package, or are referring to the bug
in the latest version that I'm looking at.

Please run:

apport-collect 1177398

on your affected machine to automatically attach all relevant versioning
information to this bug. Once done, please change the bug status back to
New.

This looks like a local configuration problem, rather than a bug in

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make

You did not specify any version information in your report. What version
of apache2 exhibits this problem? What version did you upgrade from?

And to help developers reproduce your problem, please also specify what
the owner/group of /var/lock/apache2 was before, and what it is now.

[Bug 1176548] Re: nut-server collides with modemmanager

2013-05-10 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

IMHO, a more robust approach would be to make sure that modemmanager is
using locks, and having upsd wait a small amount of time for the lock
before giving up (possibly as a configurable option).

This mechanism would work across all packages that contend for the
serial ports, rather than for us to have to deal with every single
possible conflict individually.

[Bug 1178721] Re: multipathd fails to create mappings when multipath.conf is present

2013-05-10 Thread Peter Petrakis
https://help.ubuntu.com/12.10/serverguide/multipath-devices.html

You cannot have a default LVM config co-exist with multipath. They will
race to grab the SD device for map creation and whoever gets there first wins;
they both use device mapper. LVM is configured using UDEV so it's the
first pass, multipath in run by legacy rc script.

You must configure LVM to blacklist all SD devices.
Then, you must configure LVM to use allow the disks necessary for the
root volume using the UDEV names e.g. /dev/disk/by-id

SD names are never deterministic, sorry, that's what udev us for.

When the multipath volume is not root, you can easily test the config
per the documentation.

Any time a change is made to either multipath.conf or lvm.conf, the initrd
must be updated; also in the documentation. Multipath usually runs last, so if
you didn't push the lvm blacklist to the ramdisk, by the time multipath runs
there's
nothing left for it to attach to.

Your virtual multipath is bogus, there's nothing that will arbitrate write
ordering, the block names aren't deterministic, and they never can be because
they don't have make/model/serial# which udev uses to create unique names.
You could easily multipath your root disk + a MP leg and be left with
swiss cheese based on scan ordering or hotplug events.

If you remove LVM from the stack and follow the directions for properly
propagating multipath to the ramdisk, it will work. Start small, then add an
additional layer of complexity.

There does not exist a tool which integrates the deployment of LVM + multipath
anywhere, you have to understand both and configure by hand. It is challenging
to deploy an LVM config that co-exits with multipath. Good luck.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu

The best place to see the list of work targeted at Puppet 3.2.0 is at:
http://projects.puppetlabs.com/projects/puppet/roadmap#3.2.0

We released 3.2.0rc2 this week. If there are no new issues reported ande
introduced by the release of RC2 then we'll release Puppet 3.2.0
approximately 7 days after the release of RC2. As far as I know we haven't
had any reported RC introduced issues, so there's a pretty good chance
we'll release Puppet 3.2.0 sometime during the week of 13 May (next week).

Unfortunately I can't give a specific date, nor is this information I'm
providing authoritative. Eric Sorenson will make the final decision to cut
the release, but we're looking pretty good for next week.

Please keep an eye on the puppet-announce mailing list, which is one of the
places the release announcement will be published.

Hope this helps,

[Bug 1178884] [NEW] unhelpful kvm error msg thrown when cache=none and no direct IO

2013-05-10 Thread Jim Salter
Public bug reported:

If you set cache=none to the definition of a guest's disk when the
underlying storage subsystem does not support Direct I/O - for example,
glusterFS or ZFSonLinux, or any FUSE filesystem - your guest will not
start, and the error message thrown is a very generic cannot connect to
monitor.

Propose testing for Direct I/O, and trapping the error of Direct I/O not
supported, and throwing an error (message for virsh, or dialog for virt-
manager) that better explains the problem - Direct I/O not supported
for filesystem at [path to disk], cache=none not supported would be
nice.

** Affects: kvm (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1157589] Re: kvm hangs for freebsd guests since raring upgrade

2013-05-10 Thread John Klug
I have what I believe is this same problem while booting FreeBSD from
GRUB2 using UEFI (grub2 and FreeBSD set to serial). I was using 12.04's
kernel. Should have written down which one, but I had all the updates
as of 2013 May 9. I updated the kernel to V3.9RC4 as suggested, and the
problem remains.

[Bug 924197] Re: Unable to get the next Data source after 24 hours

2013-05-10 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package sysstat - 10.1.5-2

---
sysstat (10.1.5-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * Upload to unstable.
  * New 10-isag-menu-refresh.patch: Add Refresh button to file menu to make
it possible to re-read contents of /var/log/sysstat directory in case
isag is running over midnight, and new file is created (LP: #924197).
Please note that (depending on /etc/sysstat/sysstat settings) the new file
created just after midnight can be replaced with a symbolic link, so it
might be necessary to use the Refresh button again in such cases.
  * Standards-Version: 3.9.4 (no changes).
