[Bug 1185699] [NEW] libnss-ldap crashes in libc-2.17.so when using sudo/sshd

2013-05-30 Thread Jens Langner
Public bug reported:

Since our upgrade to 13.04 (we had 12.10 previously) our administrators
cannot use sudo anymore. When sudo is used and either the correct
password or incorrect password is used sudo immediately crashes with the
following crash report:

-- cut here --
sudo[23352]: segfault at 0 ip 7f40ff4da5e4 sp 7fffa07c3ec8 error 4 in
libc-2.17.so[7f40ff443000+1be000]
-- cut here --

After some investigation we found that as soon as we disable nss-ldap
support in /etc/nsswitch.conf by removing the ldap statements in the
passwd, shadow and group rows sudo works as expected. Howeer, of course
then the ldap users are gone. Besides that crash getent passwd,
getent group or any other name service query seems to work fine. Also
disabling/stopping nscd doesn't seem to solve the problem.

After some further investigation we even found out that not only sudo is
affected, but also sshd crashes under certain circumstances as soon as
nss-ldap support is enabled in /etc/nsswitch.conf. Then sshd also
crashes with a similar crash in libc-2.17.so:

-- cut here --
sshd[11457]: segfault at 0 ip 7f40cb0cc5e4 sp 7fff7204d038 error 4 in
libc-2.17.so[7f40cb035000+1be000]
-- cut here --

All the servers that still use Ubuntu 12.10 seems to work fine so far.
Thus, the combination of nss-ldap and libc-2.17.so seem to crash our
system.

[Bug 1165461] Re: pam_winbind offline logon does not work in 12.04

2013-05-30 Thread Jan
Hi everyone,

the bug only occurs if you use the idmap ad backend. With backend tdb
everything works fine.

I tracked this down to the file /var/run/samba/gencache.tdb. The file
lies in a tmpfs and is cleared on every reboot. Winbind uses it to
store the sid2uid and sid2gid mapping information in it.

An easy fix is to tell samba to store the file in an other directory.
This can be done with lock directory = /var/cache/samba/ in smb.conf.

reverting patch add-option-ignore-client-uids from ./ ... ok.

I changed the patch order and did some refreshment forcibly[3], then

[Bug 1185908] [NEW] slapd: slapcat output truncated every now and then

2013-05-30 Thread Ryan Tandy
Public bug reported:

Debian #673038 was fixed in wheezy but the fix has never been merged to
Ubuntu. I verified the existence of this bug in precise, quantal,
raring, and saucy using more or less the procedure from
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=673038#111:

# apt-get install ldap-utils slapd
configure admin password
# ldapadd -D cn=admin,dc=nodomain -w adminpw end
dn: cn=test,dc=nodomain
objectClass: organizationalRole
objectClass: simpleSecurityObject
cn: test
userPassword: test

end
# while true; do slapcat | wc -l; done

and in another terminal...

$ while true; do ldappasswd -D cn=admin,dc=nodomain -w adminpw
cn=test,dc=nodomain; done

In the first terminal, note that the output from wc is usually 41 but
sometimes smaller. It should be the same line count every time.

I'm building and testing patched packages now and will post debdiffs
shortly.

[Bug 1071910] Re: lxc stop will hang forever

2013-05-30 Thread Jeff Carr
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1073238 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1073238

I don't believe that this is a duplicate of Bug #1073238.

I'm able to replicate this relatively often on 3.5 and (I believe 3.8
from 13.04). lvremove remains unkillalble. I'm not using cgroups so I
don't think this is related. I'm going to see if I can trigger a
recovery using dmsetup. I also see the /sbin/dmeventd: stat failed: No
such file or directory, but not every time. It is intermittent that it
reports that to me via the command line.

[Bug 1185908] Re: slapd: slapcat output truncated every now and then

2013-05-30 Thread Ryan Tandy
** Description changed:

Debian #673038 was fixed in wheezy but the fix has never been merged to
Ubuntu. I verified the existence of this bug in precise, quantal,
raring, and saucy using more or less the procedure from
  http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=673038#111:

  # apt-get install ldap-utils slapd
  configure admin password
  # ldapadd -D cn=admin,dc=nodomain -w adminpw end
  dn: cn=test,dc=nodomain
  objectClass: organizationalRole
  objectClass: simpleSecurityObject
  cn: test
  userPassword: test

  end
  # while true; do slapcat | wc -l; done

  and in another terminal...

- $ while true; do ldappasswd -D cn=admin,dc=nodomain -w adminpw
- cn=test,dc=nodomain; done
+ $ while true; do ldappasswd -H ldap:// -D cn=admin,dc=nodomain -w
+ adminpw cn=test,dc=nodomain; done

In the first terminal, note that the output from wc is usually 41 but
sometimes smaller. It should be the same line count every time.

I'm building and testing patched packages now and will post debdiffs
  shortly.

The title of this bug is 'lxc stop will hang forever' - are you still
seeing that as well?

In both this and 1073238, you claimed that 3.7 fixed it for you. You're
saying that lvremove hanging happened in 3.5, was fixed in 3.7, and
seems to have broken again in 3.8, is that right?

[Bug 908824] Re: Unable to connect to VPN as a non-admin user

2013-05-30 Thread Simon Déziel
Brandon, you could probably workaround that limitation in 2 different
ways. First would be to install the network-manager-openvpn package if
not already done and use it to import and connect to your VPN. Second
would be to make sure the VPN is marked for autostart in
/etc/default/openvpn.

Marking as Invalid as OpenVPN requires privileges when it starts (to
create a network device, assign an IP to it and add routes). The
network-manager-openvpn package is a good way to connect to your VPN
with a regular user.

[Bug 1179707] Verification report.

2013-05-30 Thread Adam Gandelman
Please find the attached test log from the Ubuntu Server Team's CI
infrastructure. As part of the verification process for this bug, the
OpenStack components have been deployed and configured across multiple
nodes using quantal-proposed as an installation source. After successful
bring-up and configuration of the cluster, a number of exercises and
smoke tests have be invoked to ensure the updated package did not
introduce any regressions. A number of test iterations were carried out
to catch any possible transient errors.

These proposed packages were deployed and tested in several different
configurations. Attached are tarballs with various test logs from each
configuration. In addition to the base components, variables in
deployments include:

quantal_folsom.tar: nova-network (FlatDHCP), glance (Ceph backend), cinder
(Ceph backend),
quantal_folsom_nova-volume.tar: nova-network (FlatDHCP), glance (local file),
nova-volume (iSCSI backend)
quantal_folsom_quantum.tar: quantum (OVS plugin), glance (Ceph backend),
nova-volume (Ceph backend)

Please note the versions_tested file in each tarball, which contains
details about relevant package versions installed and tested.

As per the provisional Micro Release Exception granted to this package
by the Technical Board, we hope this contributes toward verification of
this update.
