[Bug 1190154] [NEW] please backport the missing logrotage file for the php5-fpm package

2013-06-12 Thread Malte S. Stretz
Public bug reported:

This isse was reported in bug 706945 in 2011 already but closed as Won't
Fix with the weird explanation php5-fpm has been removed from upstream
so im closing this bug. php5-fpm is obviously still in Ubuntu/Debian in
2013 and is still missing a logrotate file.

I noticed this because of a rather big php5-fpm file on a busy staging
server.

There is one available in Debian's php5-fpm 5.4.11-1; it would be great
if that file could be backported to the package in precise (currently
5.3.10-1ubuntu3.6).

ProblemType: Bug

[Bug 1190154] Re: please backport the missing logrotage file for the php5-fpm package

2013-06-12 Thread Robie Basak
Thinking about it, adding log rotation would just start rotating an
already large file. I don't see regression potential except where
existing users are already managing the log file in some other way
(perhaps as a result of it not having log rotation previously?)

[Bug 1190154] Re: please backport the missing logrotage file for the php5-fpm package

2013-06-12 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Fixing this in Precise would need to go through the SRU procedure
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Procedure and comply with
SRU policy (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#When).

I'm not sure whether adding a new logrotate file would comply SRU policy
or not. Comments appreciated.

If you think that this does meet SRU policy, then please comment with a
justification against https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#When
and complete steps 1 through 4 in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Procedure - and go ahead
with all the steps if you can. Note that that SRU team would need to
make a final decision.

[Bug 1190154] Re: please backport the missing logrotage file for the php5-fpm package

2013-06-12 Thread Malte S. Stretz
I'm not sure if it is worth a backport either, just wanted to bring this
up. I had to cope with a rather large log file which ate disk space but
generally (aka in production) the php5-fpm.log doesn't grow very much
and AFAIK is rewound on each restart, too. It would make my life easier
though because now I deploy the attached logrotate script manually :)

[Bug 1188850] Re: cgrulesengd cannot process symlinked executables

2013-06-12 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks, ojab - tried out your testcase, worked like a charm. (For
manual reproduction, I'd recommend sleeping 20 rather than 2)

** Description changed:

  Oh hai!

I've found that 0.37.1-1ubuntu10 in precise/LTS cannot process symlinked
executables correctly, the testcase is
  $ python -c import time; time.sleep(2)   cgclassify $!
Error in determining process name of pid 9738

The issue was fixed upstream in v0.38, see

https://sourceforge.net/p/libcg/libcg/ci/acbed86127d5d81d082fa5b90cac13a4f84f877e

It will be awesome if the patch will be applied to v0.37 in precise/LTS,
because right now cgrulesengd/cgclassify are basically unusable.
+
+ ==
+ SRU Justification:
+ 1. Impact: symlinked executables cannot be classified
+ 2. Development fix: in the case of a symlink, read the real
+file path from /proc/self/exe
+ 3. Stable fix: cherrypick small patch from development fix.
+ 4. Test case: see comment #5.
+ 5. Regression potential: there should be none, as this fix is
+taken straight from upstream and only affects the path when
+a symbolic link is being run (which is already broken).
+ ==

[Bug 962046] Re: EC2 metadata retrieval fails with spaces in a resource name

2013-06-12 Thread Adam Stokes
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
Example when using a key name 'my key':

  Caught exception reading instance data:
  http://169.254.169.254/2009-04-04/meta-data/mpi/my key

Is a boto issue, see https://github.com/boto/boto/issues/659
+
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ #!/usr/bin/env python
+ from boto import utils
+ utils.get_instance_metadata()
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ This is a very low risk change. It has been tested on Precise. A quantal
patch is also provided.

[Bug 1190280] [NEW] Nova compute starts too early when combined with libvirt and Xen

2013-06-12 Thread Vangelis Tasoulas
Public bug reported:

I have a nova-compute/libvirt/xen environment (which is not working
properly yet due to another bug I reported here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/nova/+bug/1190262) and after each reboot
nova-compute is not starting. The log shows that it tries to connect to
localhost:8000 but it fails. Obviously Xen hasn't come up yet before
nova.

[Bug 986973] Re: Facter bug causes puppet to hang

2013-06-12 Thread Shane Meyers
It would be fantastic if we could get memory.rb back ported to Precise,
as this is really irritating to need to maintain a separate copy of
memory.rb. Without the patched version, we experience many hangs per
day with 'puppet apply' running via cron. Surprising to see a hang bug
remain for so long with an LTS release.

commit 57cdb8f8c36a4835c918d9644bc26f41d0c0045a
Author: Adam Gandelman ad...@canonical.com
Date: Tue Jun 11 14:50:01 2013 -0700

Re-set default sql_connection and sqlite_db.

The defaults seem to have been lost in the migration to Oslo's
DB code. Re-set them to pre-grizzly defaults.

Fixes bug: #1190036

[Bug 1188827] Re: User option (-u or --user) is ignored

2013-06-12 Thread Marc Deslauriers
The parent process never drops privileges, only the child process which
is handling a connection drops privileges. You need to look at the
privileges of the child during a connection.

I am closing this bug. If you can demonstrate that the child process
isn't dropping privileges, please feel free to reopen it.

Thanks!

[Bug 1189926] Re: data corruption in storage attached to VM using KVM

2013-06-12 Thread Chris J Arges
The attached debdiff fixes the issue for precise.

A test build of this package is available here:
http://people.canonical.com/~arges/lp1189926/

** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ When using qemu-kvm-1.0 occasionally qcow2 disks will be corrupted.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ A test case can be downloaded here:
+ Extract the contents and run ./create-disk, then ./test-kvm to test the
currently installed KVM. Keep in mind that 100GB+ of disk is required to run
the test.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ The patch is a backport of commit
+ 143550a83ef4eef86a847d00023d148e1f59f743 upstream, which changes the way
+ that the number of available clusters are counted. While the original
+ patch has assumptions that certain functions are available, the backport
+ had to change these to be able to apply to v1.0.
+
+ --
+
When using io_perf corruption can be detected when using qemu-kvm-1.0.
A test case can be downloaded here:
- Extract the contents and run ./create-disk, then ./test-kvm to test the
currently installed KVM. Keep in mind that 100GB+ of disk is required to run
the test.
+ Extract the contents and run ./create-disk, then ./test-kvm to test the
currently installed KVM. Keep in mind that 100GB+ of disk is required to run
the test.

This affects the qemu-kvm version in Precise, but is fixed in Quantal
  and beyond.

  It is expected that running the test case results in no disk corruption;
however we detect corruption on Precise.

Running git bisect on this test finds that commit
68d100e905453ebbeea8e915f4f18a2bd4339fe8 introduced the problem between v0.15.0
and v1.0.
Running git bisect in reverse finds that commit
b7ab0fea37c15ca9e249c42c46f5c48fd1a0943c fixes the issue between v1.1.2 and
v1.2.0.

However, b7ab0fea cannot be easily backported to v1.0 and 68d100e9 is a
large change to revert. However, both changes seem to indicate that the
problem lies in the qcow2 parts of the code.

bug 1040033 seems to be a related issue.

Actually no, in my case after I had started up IE and left it sitting,
the desktop logged me out, which made windows change its network
settings so that RDP was not allowed. I had to log back in over spicy
before I could reconnect over RDP.

2013-06-12 Thread Serge Hallyn
In fact that did not suffice (this is raring, not precise) - windows
needed to reboot to reset the model=rtl8139 nic (over tap device).

Could you tell me which network device type you are using?

It looks like I should set up a precise host on which to test.

[Bug 1068304] Re: ssh not using gnome-ssh-askpass

2013-06-12 Thread Bart Swennen
Confirming on Ringtail as well.

Solution: make sure you have a public key file in ~/.ssh

Create it with ssh-keygen -y from your private key if you don't have the
public key in a separate file.

If key.pub is available, gnome-ssh-askpass pops up and asks for the
passphrase.

Without the key.pub, gnome-ssh-askpass doesn't pop up even though the
private key file is there.

[Bug 1185261] Re: MaaS nodes being enlisted with multiple network cards fail to commission

2013-06-12 Thread Andres Rodriguez
The only section where I see this would affect would be ipmi
autodetection. Do the nodes in Ready state have CPU/Memory values?

Now, MAAS requires Internet access (or archive access in such case) in
order to be able to obtain packages and be able to install the packages
it needs. I'm assuming that this is the same case for the Debian
Installer.

Unfortunately, this is not really a bug in MAAS itself. During the
commissioning process, it is cloud-init the one in charge of configuring
network interfaces. Cloud-init only waits (and configures) DHCP on
BOOTIF (being this the network interface where it is PXE booting from),
and does not configure any other network interface. This means that if
your MAAS network does not have external network access, then the
commissioning environment wont be able to install packages because the
network it PXE Booted from will be the only configured network
interface.

Because the config-drive-v2 has a metadata entry of 'availability_zone',
it didn't get found by the availabilty_zone property in
