[Bug 1031680] Re: check_apt always report 0 critical updates
Also an option is to port check_apt to use libapt-pkg[1]. This has the advantage that libapt-pkg is providing a stable api and we don't need to parse output of apt-get/aptitude. The easiest way to get changes into upstream is to send pull requests[2]. [Bug 1187262] Re: [MIR] mongodb, libv8, snowball, gyp
I accidentally clicked 'Post comment' before I was ready I think this provides an attack surface such that we would have to support V8 with security updates. [Bug 1187262] Re: [MIR] mongodb, libv8, snowball, gyp
Re: it must be demonstrated that libv8 does not process untrusted javascript libv8 is used to provide the scriptable shell in mongodb; access to the shell is via the mongo client application. We allowed V8 to be embedded in the Ubuntu SDK because the attack surface was greatly reduced-- it won't process arbitrary QML-- it will process code from the developer. There are some corner cases with string processing where we need to keep an eye on V8 CVEs, but on the whole, V8 in the Ubuntu SDK can largely be ignored. For mongodb you described a different situation. The mongo client application provides a scriptable shell. We fixed all kinds of vulnerabilities for an authenticated attacker in other software. Even if we said we need to enforce authentication and decided we wouldn't fix V8 bugs for an authenticated attacker, we would still have to fix them for the now non-default configurations that don't use authentication and/or connections through the loopback (loopback isn't strong protection anyway-- if there were a vulnerability in another piece of software on the system, a remote attacker could attack it and then attack mongo via the loopback) I think this provides an attack surface such that we would have to support V8 with security updates. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1187262 Title: [MIR] mongodb, libv8, snowball, gyp To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gyp/+bug/1187262/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 903752] Re: [MIR] sssd
** Description changed: + sssd ding-libs (which got split off sssd at some point): + 1. Availability: - in universe for some time 2. Rationale: - https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/servercloud-p-sssd-mir 3. Security: - no current CVE - five CVE reports in the past: CVE-2011-1758The krb5_save_ccname_done function in providers/krb5/krb5_auth.c in System Security Services Daemon (SSSD) 1.5.x before 1.5.7, when automatic ticket renewal and offline authentication are configured, uses a pathname string as a password, which allows local users to bypass Kerberos authentication by listing the /tmp directory to obtain the pathname. CVE-2010-4341The pam_parse_in_data_v2 function in src/responder/pam/pamsrv_cmd.c in the PAM responder in SSSD 1.5.0, 1.4.x, and 1.3 allows local users to cause a denial of service (infinite loop, crash, and login prevention) via a crafted packet. CVE-2010-2940The auth_send function in providers/ldap/ldap_auth.c in System Security Services Daemon (SSSD) 1.3.0, when LDAP authentication and anonymous bind are enabled, allows remote attackers to bypass the authentication requirements of pam_authenticate via an empty password. CVE-2010-0014System Security Services Daemon (SSSD) before 1.0.1, when the krb5 auth_provider is configured but the KDC is unreachable, allows physically proximate attackers to authenticate, via an arbitrary password, to the screen-locking program on a workstation that has any user's Kerberos ticket-granting ticket (TGT); and might allow remote attackers to bypass intended access restrictions via vectors involving an arbitrary password in conjunction with a valid TGT. CVE-2009-2410 The local_handler_callback function in server/responder/pam/pam_LOCAL_domain.c in sssd 0.4.1 does not properly handle blank-password accounts in the SSSD BE database, which allows context-dependent attackers to obtain access by sending the account's username, in conjunction with an arbitrary password, over an ssh connection. all got fixed by upstream in a timely manner. - ships a daemon that handles connections to LDAP, Kerberos servers - doesn't open privileged ports - binaries in /usr/sbin include sssd, sss_group{add,del,mod}, sss_user{add,del,mod} 4. Quality assurance: - current version doesn't install any working configuration, it is the plan to add support for debconf though check 5. UI standards: - not applicable 6. Dependencies: - ding-libs (libcollection-dev, libini-config-dev, libdhash-dev) - tevent (libtevent-dev) - ldb (libldb-dev) - libsemanage (libsemanage1-dev) + - samba4 (libndr-dev, libndr-standard-dev, libsamba-util-dev, libdcerpc-dev, samba4-dev) + - libpwquality (libpam-sss now depends on libpam-pwquality) 7. Standards compliance: - shipped by debian - lintian clean - uses dh, source format 3.0 (quilt) 8. Maintenance: - currently maintained by a team of volunteers on Debian and Ubuntu - shared git repository on git.debian.org 9. Background information: check -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/903752 Title: [MIR] sssd To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ding-libs/+bug/903752/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 1199511] [NEW] smartd service LogFile configuration points to messages instead of syslog
Public bug reported: logwatch 7.4.0+svn20120502rev103-1ubuntu1 Description:Ubuntu 13.04 Release:13.04 Smartmontools/smartd are logging to syslog. However, the LogFile directive in /usr/share/logwatch/dist.conf/services/smartd.conf is LogFile = messages This causes smartd log entries never to be reported by logwatch. [Bug 1093918] Re: grub-probe auto-detection fails on raid
** Description changed: kpartx was mapping the entire extended partition then stacking the logical partitions on that device. This exposes a device that otherwise appears to be an entire disk device containing the logical partitions, and this confuses grub. The extended partition is supposed to only expose the first two sectors to allow LILO to be installed. The patch has been applied upstream now, and since this is the only change since quantal, a simple copy to quantal-updates should resolve it there as well. I have done this in my ppa and the reporter has verified it has fixed the issue. + + TEST CASE: + + Use fdisk to create an extended parition either on a fakeraid disk or an + LVM logical volume. Run kpartx -a /dev/mapper/whatever to activate the + partitions on the disk. Assuming the extended partition is number 3, + then sudo blockdev --getsz /dev/mapper/whatever3 will report the + apparent size of the extended partition. The size should only be 2 + sectors regardless of the size of the extended partition. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to multipath-tools in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1093918 Title: grub-probe auto-detection fails on raid To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/multipath-tools/+bug/1093918/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
