Upon further inspection here is what happens, regex now works if you use elif $OPENSSL version | grep -E 1\.0\.[[:digit:]][[:alnum:]]? /dev/null; then in file whichopensslcnf Here is how grep regex works on the command line: # openssl version | grep -E 1\.0\.[[:digit:]][[:alnum:]]?
