Add new cloud-init-datasources element

This moves cloud-init data source configuration to a general purpose
cloud-init-datasources element that can be used to explicitly configure
the list of cloud-init sources that will be queried on first boot.

cloud-init-nocloud now depends on this new element to configure the
datasource_list while continuing to prep the image for a nocloud first boot.

[Bug 1311870] Re: pygrub on 12.04 don't start 14.04

2014-06-10 Thread Fantu
To boot pv domUs with newer grub pvgrub2 is needed, I'm using for a few months
a custom build from source, Trusty have it in official repository:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/trusty/grub-xen
Even if I not tested official debian/ubuntu now and from a quick look I do not
saw where is the file to pass to the domU's configuration as kernel to use it.

Can someone tell how to use it and add a documentation?

[Bug 1328521] [NEW] curtin hook does not execute /opt/curtin/finalize

2014-06-10 Thread Scott Moser
Public bug reported:

As reported by Gabriel (and Blake)
There is a small [but crippling] bug in:

http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~curtin-dev/curtin/trunk/view/head:/curtin/commands/hook.py#L41

that particular join will not have the desired effect. The second parameter
must not contain a leading /. or it will become the root path.

 os.path.join(root_p, '/opt/curtin')

'/opt/curtin'

[Bug 916200] Re: Kernel module ipmi_si fails to load

2014-06-10 Thread Nicolas Krzywinski
This is just an information for those that come to here due to matching
search engine keywords, it is only partially related to this bug, so all
others please ignore this.

If your system does not power off at all (including hang at reboot) you may
have fallen into this trap:
- install ipmitool
- recognise that your system does not meet the requirements for ipmi_si
(matching errors as described above)
- remove ipmitool

Now ipmi_si is still present in the system and you can see the
correspondig startup messages in system.log and it seems to be able to
prevent poweroff.

Solution: PURGE ipmitool (and maybe openipmi as well - at least there
was remaining configuration present in my system for this package as
well and therefore I purged it additionally).

After that, my system was able to reboot again and was able to completely
poweroff on its own:
CPU: Clarkdale i3 540
Board: ASUS P7H55D-M Evo

[Bug 1328549] [NEW] 04-merge-schema.patch causes namespace regression

2014-06-10 Thread Scott Talbert
Public bug reported:

The 04-merge-schema.patch that was introduced in Debian in 0.4.1-10
causes a regression in the handling of namespaces. As a result of this,
applications such as mhgui (part of congruity package) are broken. In
Debian, the patch was reverted in 0.4.1-13 per Debian bug:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=743415

An example of the regression (from the Debian bug report):

 url = 'http://service.gis.irisnet.be/urbis/Localization?wsdl'
 from suds.client import Client
 connexion = Client(url)
 print connexion

Result in 0.4.1-9:
Service ( Localization ) tns=http://localize;
   Prefixes (2)
 ns0 = http://localize/faults;
 ns1 = http://localize/xsd;
[...]
 Types (5):
ns1:AddressType
ns1:ExtensionType
ns0:InputMessageValidationFaultType
ns1:PointType
ns1:StreetType

i.e. two namespaces detected properly and types correctly affected to
these namespaces

Result in 0.4.1-10:

Service ( Localization ) tns=http://localize;
   Prefixes (1)
 ns0 = http://localize;
[...]
 Types (5):
AddressType
ExtensionType
InputMessageValidationFaultType
PointType
StreetType

i.e. namespaces not detected correctly, and types not affected to any
namespaces.

Please revert this patch in Trusty. Other releases appear to be non-
affected.

[Bug 1311870] Re: pygrub on 12.04 don't start 14.04

2014-06-10 Thread imker
Hello Fantu,

thanks for this hint. It's gr8 that trusty (Ubuntu 14.04) installes the
pygrub2 package, so it should be possible to start a 14.04 pv domU on a
14.04 dom0. I also did not test this.

But thats not a solution for thoose who run the dom0 on 12.04 and want
to use a 14.04 pv domU now. So it would maybe an idea to backport the
pygrub2 package to 12.04?

Have a nice day.
Imker

[Bug 1275656] Re: open-vm-dkms 2011.12.20-562307-0ubuntu1: open-vm-tools kernel module failed to build

2014-06-10 Thread Robert C Jennings
Marking as verification done. I had failed verification erroneously and
I have re-verified to make sure this is correct.

I had previously failed this due to an install failure for a 3rd party
package from VMWare, thinking that the problem was in the control file
for this new package in precise. After a bit of testing and education I
have learned that the 3rd party package is requiring open-vm-tools and
specifying a particular version range. The virtual package in the
backport can't satisfy specific version requirements so the 3rd party
package must be updated with knowledge of the new open-vm-tools-lts-
trus-needed-trusty package. With that resolved and the packages re-
verified I have set the tags and distribution/package status so that
these can be promoted from -proposed.

[Bug 708493] Re: Can't login anymore: Read from socket failed: Connection reset by peer

2014-06-10 Thread Srdjan Grubor
My cases of this bug (though it seems like there are different ones with
similar symptoms) happen each time I reset a 14.04 VM to an older state
from a hard shutdown. Localhost ssh connections fail as well with same
output.

Workaround for me is regenerating the host keys (sudo rm /etc/ssh/host_*
 sudo ssh-keygen -A) each time I revert the VM. Changing the
cipher/kex does not seem to change the outcome.

I wonder if some junk gets written to the keys in bad shutdowns. I'll
see If I can debug the output of the sshd.

[Bug 708493] Re: Can't login anymore: Read from socket failed: Connection reset by peer

2014-06-10 Thread Srdjan Grubor
Looks to be a No supported key exchange algorithms [preauth] problem.

Regenerating the host RSA key with ssh-keygen -t rsa -f
/etc/ssh/ssh_host_rsa_key fixes the issue

[Bug 1328683] [NEW] Bad file descriptor on reboot

2014-06-10 Thread Andrew LaPierre
Public bug reported:

This is a fresh install of 14.04 LTS Server on VMware ESXi 5.1 or 5.5, I
get the same symptom on both servers.

I installed with OpenSSH and LAMP packages. After the install, the server
reboots and comes up OK. I login, immediately type sudo reboot now and it
begins stopping services. After Stopping System V runlevel compatibility
[OK] I get
[38.342187] init: Error while reading from descriptor: Bad file descriptor.
Then it kicks me back to a prompt.

[Bug 1307614] Re: MAAS sometimes attempts to install to USB flash drive

2014-06-10 Thread Scott Moser
Roderick,
 fwiw, its not terribly obvious that the 2GB disk is wrong.
  Why would you want your root disk of your OS to be the big one?
  instead, use the small one that is sufficient, and put all your data on the
big one.

2014-06-10 Thread Srdjan Grubor
Well, at least in my case, I found that all the sshd host keys were
truncated. I'm guessing that the hard shutdown of the VM was the cause
but I'm not 100% sure.

[Bug 1307614] Re: MAAS sometimes attempts to install to USB flash drive

2014-06-10 Thread Roderick Smith
The official Ubuntu system requirements include 5GB of disk space
(https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/SystemRequirements), so
installing to a 2GB disk is just plain wrong.

This bug report was just bumped in priority because it's similar to
problems being experienced with other configurations with more exotic
storage devices. Others should be posting their comments about that, or
perhaps filing new bug reports.
