[Bug 1379285] [NEW] Review provision of configuration files from debian/*.conf

2014-10-09 Thread James Page
Public bug reported:

Swift upstream provide sample configuration files, which largely overlap
with the conf files in debian/*.conf.

We should look in utopic + 1 at using upstream provided configuration
rather than using package specific ones to avoid breaking changes (like
mandatory bind_port definition as happened during juno).

[Bug 1379340] [NEW] qemu-kvm guest panic for smp trusty guests

2014-10-09 Thread Blair Bethwaite
Public bug reported:

Just upgraded OpenStack compute hosts in our public cloud (using qemu-
kvm via libvirt) from Precise to Trusty (14.04.1), now on kernel
3.13.0-36-generic with qemu-kvm 2.0.0+dfsg-2ubuntu1.5.

Following the upgrade, whenever we try to start an smp/multicore Trusty
guest (existing or new), we run into this panic [1] inside the guest
just towards the end of boot. This happens consistently for smp guests
using the Trusty kernel (i.e., it also affects earlier Ubuntus using the
HWE kernel from Trusty but not their native versions). I didn't have any
other distro images to hand with 3.13.x kernels, but none of the others
I tested were affected (in the 3.2 - 3.16 kernel range).

There are scarce similar reports out there, but the one we did find
pointed to a CPU feature as the trigger. We were running these hosts
with libvirt cpu mode set to host-passthrough (so qemu starts with
-cpu host), on AMD 6200 6300 Opteron hardware. Switching the guest
domains to use cpu mode host-model instead works around the issue and
is perfectly acceptable for most of our users.

We have various other Intel compute hosts and they don't seem to be
affected.

[Bug 1379346] [NEW] Error creating a VM: internal error: No PCI buses available

2014-10-09 Thread Felix Geyer
Public bug reported:

In utopic creating a libvirt VM (through virt-manager or virt-install)
fails with: internal error: No PCI buses available.

This is caused by an Ubuntu patch in the qemu package that changes the default
machine type to pc-i440fx-utopic.
It also adds an alias ubuntu for pc-i440fx-utopic. This seems to be the one
actually used.

libvirt has some rules hard-coded how to set up the PCI bus depending on the
machine type.
Obviously it doesn't check for ubuntu.

Attached is a patch that extend the libvirt checks for the ubuntu
machine type.

[Bug 1379030] Re: Extra lxc.mount.auto entry being added to config file

2014-10-09 Thread Stéphane Graber
Hey Chris,

This is a parser bug which we need to fix. I believe Serge is looking
into it.

In the mean time, try using append_config_item instead which may work
fine in this case (so long as it's not called multiple times, otherwise
you'll get duplicates).

[Bug 1182980] Re: global parameters do not apply to enlistment

2014-10-09 Thread Scott Moser
my coments are invalid, and were based on ppc64 systems. essentially i
was adding 'console=hvc0' to the command line, but was not getting
information onto the console as I expected. The reason is that 'hvc0'
was configured to go elsewhere in the ASM console (the https interface
to controlling a power system).

So I'm fairly certain that maas *was* sending the parameters on the
command line, but they were not having the desired affect.

[Bug 1379030] Re: Extra lxc.mount.auto entry being added to config file

2014-10-09 Thread Serge Hallyn
A proposed fix has been sent to the mailing list, and will probably be
applied in utopic today. In the meantime you can work around this by
using the 'append_config_item' method instead of set_config_item. (Note
that the C API does not have this same behavior, so this is only for the
python bindings)

[Bug 1379441] [NEW] installation fails when /var/cache/lxc is read-only

2014-10-09 Thread Nobuto MURATA
Public bug reported:

I'm following this guide:
https://www.stgraber.org/2013/12/21/lxc-1-0-advanced-container-usage/
[quote]
Now restart “p1″ and you’ll see /var/cache/lxc in there, showing the same thing
as you have on the host. Note that if you want the container to only be able to
read the data, you can simply add “ro” as a mount flag in the fstab.
[/quote]

However lxc package installation fails when /var/cache/lxc is read-only.
Is it possible to mark chmod 700 /var/cache/lxc in postinst as
optional to allow read-only filesystem on /var/cache/lxc?

Steps to reproduce:
$ sudo lxc-create -t ubuntu-cloud -n bind-mount-ro-test -- --release trusty -S
~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub

$ echo 'lxc.aa_profile = lxc-container-default-with-nesting' | sudo tee -a
/var/lib/lxc/bind-mount-ro-test/config
$ echo 'lxc.mount.entry = /var/cache/lxc var/cache/lxc none bind,create=dir,ro'
| sudo tee -a /var/lib/lxc/bind-mount-ro-test/config

[login to the container]
$ sudo apt-get install lxc

he signature of ip_select_ident changed from -69 to -70.

It went from (struct sk_buff *skb, struct dst_entry *dst, struct sock
*sk) to (struct sk_buff *skb, struct sock *sk, int segs).

Unfortunately I don't know enough about openvswitch internals to change
the call, but the calls are made in datapath/tunnel.c starting line
1303.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.

[Bug 1379441] Re: installation fails when /var/cache/lxc is read-only

2014-10-09 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks for the bug report and the patch. I'm a bit concerned about
supporting this. I understand why you want it, but lxc in general won't
work well with a read-only cache, so an install failure early on would
seem preferable to a lxc-create failure later on.

Would using an overlayfs of the cache in the container have any
significant downsides?

Or, alternatively, you could simply bind-mount /var/cache/lxc into the
container rw, but (if you really don't trust the container) have
apparmor deny writes.

If we were to go with your fix, I would prefer to do

chmod 700 /var/cache/lxc || true

because the -w check could fail for reasons other than a ro-fs.

[Bug 1270784] Re: aa-status --enabled failed in LXC container with Permission denied: '/sys/kernel/security/apparmor/profiles'

2014-10-09 Thread Serge Hallyn
It actually seems like a bug in aa-status.

Note that /sys/kernel/security/apparmor/profiles is not readable by non-
root users on the host. Yet non-root users on the host do not see a
python traceback when they run 'aa-status --enable'. This also suggests
that a container should not provide read access to the file.

(Note that the traceback doesn't happen as root in an unprivileged
container - there it quietly exits 4 just like for any unprivileged
user)

[Bug 1379585] [NEW] python-libvirt lacks egg-info on precise

2014-10-09 Thread houkouonchi
Public bug reported:

On precise. Package version:

ii python-libvirt 0.9.8-2ubuntu17.20
libvirt Python bindings

Unlike trusty which has egg-info:

/usr/lib/python-2.7/dist-packages/libvirt_python-1.2.2.egg-info

No such file exists with python-libvirt on precise.

This is important as any programs that are packaged so they can be used
by pypi will fail as they will try to use new 1.0 package versions to
download as they will be unable to detect the local installed package
from the distro:

Here is the output during bootstrap for a program that depends on
libvirt-python without the egg file on precise:

After manually creating the egg-info file which is a very simple file:

Install goes ok:

Using /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages
Searching for libvirt-python==0.9.8
Best match: libvirt-python 0.9.8
libvirt-python 0.9.8 is already the active version in easy-install.pth

This seems like an easy enough fix that it should be added to precise.

Can we get this updated on precise?

If someone doesn't want to spend the time doing a patch I will gladly
build a new package and submit a patch.

[Bug 1379629] [NEW] cinder charm doesn't have nrpe-external-master interface

2014-10-09 Thread Brad Marshall
Public bug reported:

The cinder charm (and pretty much every other openstack charm) doesn't
provide a nrpe-external-master interface, making monitoring it awkward.
To fix this it simply needs the following added to the provides section
of the metadata.yaml:

  nrpe-external-master:
interface: nrpe-external-master
scope: container

I've got a branch at lp:~brad-
marshall/charms/trusty/cinder/add-n-e-m-interface with the change in it.

[Bug 1379030] Re: Extra lxc.mount.auto entry being added to config file

2014-10-09 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package lxc - 1.1.0~alpha2-0ubuntu3

---
lxc (1.1.0~alpha2-0ubuntu3) utopic; urgency=medium

  * fix usernic and apparmor-mounts tests to not clear out the host's
/etc/lxc/lxc-usernet
  * fix unprivileged containers when user's cgroup paths are not all
equivalent, and add a testcase for that.
  * fix broken behavior when configuration has 'lxc.mount.auto ='
