[Bug 1336742] [NEW] Caching responses with Vary header
You have been subscribed to a public bug by Robie Basak (racb): See the upstream bug report for more details [1], but it seems as though squid in trusty isn't caching any response which includes a vary header [2]. The upstream bug was fixed in 3.3.12 [3]. Steps to reproduce: * Setup an application returning responses with Vary: User-Agent * Add squid in front of an application server * Make multiple requests to squid Expected result: * Second request is a Hit Actual result: * Second (and subsequent) requests are all misses. Repeat without a Vary header and things are cached as expected. Note, I've only reproduced this with a specific setup (as in [2]), I've not yet reproduced with a simplified setup to be certain I'm seeing the upstream bug. [Bug 1305232] [NEW] Postfix fails to start, failure to copy certificates
You have been subscribed to a public bug by Robie Basak (racb): Postfix frequently fails to start after security updates to the ca- certificates package because upgrading the latter sometimes leaves dangling symlinks behind. If that happens, the /etc/init.d/postfix script aborts. # handle files in subdirectories (cd $ca_path find . -name '*.pem' -print0 | cpio -0pdL --quiet $dest_dir) 2/dev/null || (log_failure_msg failure copying certificates; exit 1) The usual fix on a high level is dpkg-reconfigure --priority=high ca- certificates; however, I would propose to change the find command as follows: # handle files in subdirectories (cd $ca_path find . -name '*.pem' -not -xtype l -print0 | cpio -0pdL --quiet $dest_dir) 2/dev/null || (log_failure_msg failure copying certificates; exit 1) This would then skip printing broken symbolic links, and prevent cpio from choking on them. [Bug 1426023] [NEW] apt-check should not be run from update-motd
You have been subscribed to a public bug: If i launch a new cloud instance, and then ssh to it, my ssh login blocks, stopping me from doing useful work while '/usr/lib/update- notifier/apt-check' runs. By far, the biggest offender of this slow login is /usr/lib/update-notifier/apt-check. To demonstrate, a fresh cloud instance on azure. ## ssh to the instance and run a non-interactive command: $ time ssh $cloudhost /bin/true real0m5.066s user0m0.045s sys 0m0.004s ## ssh in and disable updates-available so it wont run at all $ ssh $cloudhost sudo chmod -x /etc/update-motd.d/90-updates-available $ time ssh $cloudhost /bin/true real0m2.459s user0m0.026s sys 0m0.015s ## so disabling that bought us 2.5 seconds back. ## How about entirely disabling update-motd $ ssh $cloudhost sudo cp /etc/pam.d/sshd /etc/pam.d/sshd.dist $ ssh $cloudhost sudo sed -i '/^[^#].*pam_motd/s/^/#/' /etc/pam.d/sshd $ time ssh $cloudhost /bin/true real 0m0.650s user 0m0.041s sys 0m0.004s Note, that these things happen even for non-interactive logins, where the message of the day is completely swallowed. [Bug 1426023] Re: apt-check should not be run from update-motd
I agree that it doesn't make sense to block the login updating the motd when we aren't actually going to display the motd. I'm not sure if this should be solved in pam_motd, or in openssh - perhaps openssh should be using different a separate PAM profile for interactive vs. non- interactive sessions; or maybe openssh needs to be calling pam_open_session() with the PAM_SILENT flag for non-interactive sessions. Either of these changes would let us avoid wasteful calls to update-motd when it won't be displayed. But pam, at least, is working as designed here. And the inclusion of package information in the dynamic output is as originally requested by the server team. If the server team no longer wants this information in the motd then we can drop this, but then it should be dropped across the board. As for the actual delays you're seeing: this would be expected the first time you sshed to a machine, but after the first run, the apt check results are aggressively cached. Is the behavior you're describing reproducible on subsequent ssh calls to the same machine? If so there's certainly a bug in update-notifier. For reference: $ time ssh localhost true real0m0.301s user0m0.030s sys 0m0.002s $ ** Package changed: pam (Ubuntu) = openssh (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to openssh in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1426023 Title: apt-check should not be run from update-motd To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openssh/+bug/1426023/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1366174] Re: apache2 SEGV with multiple SSL sites
I've spent a few hours over the last couple of days reviewing this in detail. I've gone over Alex's proposed patch to Trusty carefully, making sure I understand every line in the context of the existing code. I've also carefully gone through upstream's review comments, and upstream's commit to their 2.4 branch (based on a more recent version which necessitated Alex's backport). I've compared upstream's patch to Alex's patch and verified his backport. I haven't found any issues after quite some time looking for them. Although the patch is more invasive than I'd like for an SRU, the refactoring he did is the most reasonable way to fix the memory corruption issues in this bug. The only other option to get a more minimal patch would be to leave a memory leak on reload. This doesn't completely eliminate the regression risk with this kind of update, but I have reviewed as carefully as I can to mitigate it. +1 for Alex's patch. There are some minor whitespace, comment, constant and name changes that aren't strictly minimal, but I think that given the complexity of the patch it's safer to leave them as-is as they've come directly from the upstream backport. The only code touched is in the areas that needed touching anyway. I have uploaded this to trusty-proposed and this now awaits review from the SRU team. As Chris Arges looked at this previously, I'll ask him if he can look at this again now. I recommend that for SRU verification, in addition to checking for crashes, we test SSL functionality carefully - both with and without OCSP certificates if possible. Top quality work, Alex, especially considering the complexity involved. Thank you. ** Changed in: apache2 (Ubuntu Trusty) Status: Triaged = In Progress -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1366174 Title: apache2 SEGV with multiple SSL sites To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/apache2/+bug/1366174/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 997269] Re: dovecot imap broken by apparmor policy
Hm, a fix was released... Can we have more info on what was fixed in apparmor itself ? (which commit, and which ubuntu/debian package/version) ? My server is in 12.04.1 LTS and I don't want to upgrade the whole system it only for this, so I need more info. I just upgraded my apparmor package from 2.7.102-0ubuntu3.7 to 2.7.102-0ubuntu3.10 ... But the changelog does not seem to list this bug as fixed:: * 0022-aa-logprof-PUx_rewrite_fix-lp982619.patch: fix aa-logprof rewrite of PUx modes (LP: #982619) * 0023-lp1091642-parser-reset_matchflags.patch: prevent reuse of matchflags in parser dfa backend and add testcase demonstrating the problem (LP: #1091642) * 0024-profiles-allow_exo-open-lp987578.patch: allow exo-open to work within ubuntu-integration (LP: #987578) Also, the current bug thread is not clear about if this is related to apparmor-profile or to an apparmor bug. But, I don't have any apparmor-profile package installed and I am experiencing this issue randomly. Namely: Feb 26 10:45:36 mail dovecot: imap(foobar): Error: fcntl(unlock) locking failed for file /home/foobar/.mail/dovecot.index.log: No such file or directory Feb 26 10:45:36 mail dovecot: imap(foobar): Error: fstat() failed with file /home/foobar/.mail/dovecot.index.log: No such file or directory Feb 26 10:47:00 dovecot: last message repeated 15 times Many thanks if anybody as any info on this topic. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to dovecot in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/997269 Title: dovecot imap broken by apparmor policy To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apparmor/+bug/997269/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
