[Bug 1404396] Re: [regression] vgabios - seabios breaks (my) 16-bit applications

2015-03-17 Thread Richard Laager
Upstream has a new patch that fixes this without any known breakage. I
tested it and confirmed it fixes things for me. However, it doesn't
apply to 1.7.4. I propose setting CONFIG_VGA_ALLOCATE_EXTRA_STACK=n
until the next seabios release after 1.8.1.

[Bug 1313450] Re: Unable to start vsftpd on Ubuntu 14.04 (Amazon/EC2 or Xen) with default configuration

2015-03-17 Thread Stefan Bader
Please open a new bug report using ubuntu-bug linux if the problem
involves the same stacktrace in dmesg. If not it is even more likely a
different problem and you should start with ubuntu-bug vsftp (in any
case the command should be run on the affected server). Also note, that
this bug here was restricted to server installs running as
paravirtualized guests on Xen.

[Bug 1433324] [NEW] provide whl packages in trusty to enable pyvenv in python3.4

2015-03-17 Thread Matthias Klose
Public bug reported:

to enable pyvenv in trusty, we need a number of -whl packages in trusty.
For the normal case, this is just adding a new separate binary package,
sometimes the build system needs to use setuptools. Other needed changes
are described below. The python3.4 update is tracked in lp: #1348954.

test criterium for accepting these packages should be a successful
build, a check that the original packages are not modified, and the new
packages are not empty.

The version number may be sometimes odd looking. Packages were prepared
in the ubuntu-toolchain-r/ppa, and I'd like to use version number higher
than in this PPA.

[Bug 1211110] Re: network manager openvpn dns push data not updating system DNS addresses

2015-03-17 Thread bitinerant
Actually, I'd like to retract part of what I said above. Via tcpdump, I
was able to confirm that --push on the server for dhcp-option DNS ...
and redirect-gateway ARE ACTUALLY WORKING, though the changes are not
visible in /etc/resolv.conf. Rather, they are updated in dnsmasq and
resolv.conf points to dnsmasq. (I don't think the def1 flag for
redirect-gateway works.)

In my view, two things are needed: (1) a documented way to view the
list of DNS servers within Network Manager's dnsmasq so folks here can
watch what is happening without tcpdump, and (2) support for dhcp-
option DNS ... and redirect-gateway on the client (not just options
pushed from the server). The first item seems more important and should
be much easier.

[Bug 31057] Re: /etc/resolv.conf is empty after a system reboot.

2015-03-17 Thread Glendon Gross
I just ran into this problem while configuring Ubuntu 14.04 to forward
WIFI packets through an ethernet interface with NAT masquerading in
order to give access to another machine that has no WiFi Interface. I
manually set an ip address of 10.1.1.1 for eth0 and everything was
working fine, until the connection stalled due to resolvconf meddling
with the static IP address and removing it. Finally I removed the
resolvconf package as editing the configuration file did not stop the
problem from happening.

Don't know if this bug should be re-opened or not, but it is very
counter-intuitive to have a daemon rewrite a standard configuration file
such as /etc/resolv.conf. If it is supposed to enhance security by
obscurity it is a complete failure, in my opinion. After I removed the
package the system is now working as it should (2007 iMac running native
Ubuntu 14.04.)

[Bug 1430181] Re: rpcbind/rpc.statd listen on all interfaces

2015-03-17 Thread Jorge Niedbalski
There is no way to prevent rpcbind from listening on all interfaces for
TCP connections. The setting -h only applies to UDP connections.

Without the attached patch, starting rpcbind with -h makes no effect to
listen on a specific address:

$ rpcbind -h 192.168.100.2

tcp0 0 0.0.0.0:111 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN
22011/rpcbind
tcp6   0  0 :::111  :::*LISTEN
22011/rpcbind
udp0 0 127.0.0.1:111 0.0.0.0:*
22011/rpcbind
udp0 0 0.0.0.0:986 0.0.0.0:*
22011/rpcbind
udp6   0  0 ::1:111 :::*
22011/rpcbind
udp6   0  0 :::986  :::*
22011/rpcbind

With this patch, starting rpcbind with -h makes effect to listen to a
specific address

$ rpcbind -h 192.168.100.2

tcp0 0 192.168.100.2:111 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN
24826/rpcbind
tcp0 0 127.0.0.1:111 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN
24826/rpcbind
tcp6   0  0 ::1:111 :::*LISTEN
24826/rpcbind

[Bug 1431650] Re: Multipath devices take long to initialize during initramfs

2015-03-17 Thread Mauricio Faria de Oliveira
Hi Mathieu,

The workaround seems good, but there still tends to be issues bringing up
the multipath devices on boot with QEMU in my testing; just the workaround
isn't always sufficient: break=pre-multipath then resuming helps out there.

May you describe the issues you're seeing?
I guess I have hit more than a few so far.

Specifically, check bug 1429327 ('multipath' runs *before* all disks
show up), and bug 1432062 (udev rules fail w/ disk-names w/ spaces when
user_friendly_names isn't set).

[Bug 1431650] Re: Multipath devices take long to initialize during initramfs

2015-03-17 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
The workaround seems good, but there still tends to be issues bringing
up the multipath devices on boot with QEMU in my testing; just the
workaround isn't always sufficient: break=pre-multipath then resuming
helps out there.

I think this all goes back to multipath-tools updates that would help a
whole lot; but they may be a little too intrusive past feature freeze --
I'm looking into just updating the udev rules now.

[Bug 1400473] Re: Apache 2.2 on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS doesn't allow disabling TLS1.0

2015-03-17 Thread RedScourge
From the Apache 2.2 documentation:

TLSv1.1 (when using OpenSSL 1.0.1 and later)
A revision of the TLS 1.0 protocol, as defined in RFC 4346.

TLSv1.2 (when using OpenSSL 1.0.1 and later)
A revision of the TLS 1.1 protocol, as defined in RFC 5246.

I suspect that the issue is that the current version of Apache 2.2 in
12.04.5 LTS incorrectly thinks that OpenSSL is not quite at 1.0.1,
despite the fact that it clearly is reported to be that way when I run
dpkg-configure:

root@db3:~# dpkg-query --list apache2 openssl

I am reasonably comfortable that this issue is not really a show-stopper
anymore, but rather some sort of minor package compilation related quirk that
does not really change any functionality.

[Bug 1400473] Re: Apache 2.2 on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS doesn't allow disabling TLS1.0

2015-03-17 Thread RedScourge
I get something similar when I run that command for my own domain name:

SSL-Session:
Protocol : TLSv1.2
Cipher: DHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384

However, I still get the warning in apachectl configtest :

SSLProtocol: Illegal protocol 'TLSv1.2'
Action 'configtest' failed.

I am going to assume that the problem is not the openssl, but rather
Apache, and that perhaps what is going on is that Ubuntu version of
Apache is to blame. My hunch is that when i enter TLSv1, it treats it as
though I had enabled TLSv1, TLSv1.1, and TLSv1.2, despite the
documentation for Apache 2.2 saying that TLSv1.1 and TLSv1.1 should be
valid values, and my assumption that enabling TLSv1 should not enable
the other two.

[Bug 1400473] [NEW] Apache 2.2 on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS only supports TLS1.0 which is vulnerable to BEAST attack

2015-03-17 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

For PCI compliance, one must not be vulnerable to the POODLE or BEAST or
CRIME attacks. POODLE suggests removing SSLv2 and SSLv3, and BEAST
suggests removing TLSv1. However, since TLSv1.1 and TLSv1.2 do not seem
to be supported by apache 2.2 on 12.04 LTS, and since apache 2.4 on
12.04 LTS does not support PHP 5.3.X, the last branch to allow PHP
register_globals, which is required for lots of legacy production code
often used by sites with payment systems, and since Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
does not support apache 2.2, and since Ubuntu 10.04 LTS does not support
SHA256 signed SSL certificates, there may be no feasible way for someone
to run a credit card processing system with any Ubuntu LTS system if
they require both PCI compliance and PHP register_globals support.

It looks like manually compiling PHP may be the only plausible way to
surmount this issue in this particular circumstance.

2015-03-17 Thread Marc Deslauriers
While apache in Ubuntu 12.04 does support TLSv1.2, it doesn't allow
specifying the configuration options to selectively disable TLSv1.0.

[Bug 1433324] Re: provide whl packages in trusty to enable pyvenv in python3.4

2015-03-17 Thread Matthias Klose
** Description changed:

to enable pyvenv in trusty, we need a number of -whl packages in trusty.

+
+ wheel: wheel is not part of trusty, so just take the first upload to
+ utopic.
+
+ six: Build a -whl package (setuptools is needed to build the wheel
+ package).
+
+ chardet: 2.0.1 in trusty is not ready for Python3. Backport the package
+ from utopic (source name chardet-whl), and just build the
+ python3-chardet and python-chardet-whl packages (both new in trusty).
+
+ distlib: Build a -whl package (setuptools is needed to build the wheel
+ package).
+
+ html5lib: Build a -whl package (setuptools is needed to build the wheel
+ package). Just use the packaging of the next Debian version.

[Bug 1431650] Re: Multipath devices take long to initialize during initramfs

I see delays in the devices being detected, which means after running
through the initramfs scripts and other startup scripts, the installed
system will come up using /dev/sdb1 (for example) rather than the
equivalent device mapper device, and no swap.

If you can point me to the bug you filed that better matches this, I can
fix it first before taking on the other reports.
