[Bug 1357471] Re: Samba4 AD DC randomly dies, error: Did not manage to negotiate mandetory feature SIGN for dcerpc auth_level 6.
My two Samba AD DCs run in an environment with frequent network interruptions due to power cuts. It seems that even very brief network interruptions trigger this issue, which then doesn't resolve itself when connectivity is restored. After most network interruptions, the following three messages repeat in log.samba every 5 seconds, and 'sudo samba-tool drs showrepl' shows failures. A 'sudo service samba-ad-dc restart' is required to get everything working again. - Update failed: Miscellaneous failure (see text): Matching credential (GC/{other-dc}.{domain}/{domain}@{DOMAIN}) not found - Did not manage to negotiate mandetory feature SIGN for dcerpc auth_level 6 - Failed to bind to uuid {uuid-1} for {uuid-1}@ncacn_ip_tcp:{uuid-2}._msdcs.{domain}[1024,seal,krb5] NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED. In a country with on average 12 powercuts *per day*, which despite a huge arsenal of stabilisers and UPS-es do cause brief network interruptions, you can imagine that this issue is a major pain in the behind :-/ -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1357471 Title: Samba4 AD DC randomly dies, error: Did not manage to negotiate mandetory feature SIGN for dcerpc auth_level 6. [Bug 1434758] Re: mysqld: errno: 24 - Too many open files
I'm reluctant to raise the default limit to infinity because this may introduce a security vulnerability due to select() macro overflow. See https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu- devel/2010-September/031446.html for details. If someone from upstream can confirm definitely that MySQL definitely does handle higher number file descriptors correctly though, then I have no objection. I understand though that users do want to be able to tune the value. So, what else can we do? It seems to me that now that we're using systemd there are two different places where the setting can be made - from my.cnf, or from the systemd service definition - whereas previously users tended to do it in just my.cnf. Having it set in two places is confusing. my.cnf cannot raise beyond the systemd setting, but we cannot make the systemd setting infinity because of the security concern above. So given that I don't want to change systemd's default to infinity, I think it makes sense to expect users to change the systemd service definition (copy /lib/systemd/system/mysql.service to /etc/systemd/system/ and set LimitNOFILE etc there) if they want to change the default value, and to not set open_files_limit in my.cnf at all. If this is reasonable, then this bug is Invalid. Is it reasonable? Typically, the crash report begins with something like *** glibc detected *** APPLICATION: double free or corruption (!prev) /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6(+0x7eb96)[0x7fc68cff0b96] /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libldap_r-2.4.so.2(+0x38769)[0x7fc68bb13769] /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libldap_r-2.4.so.2(+0x3570e)[0x7fc68bb1070e] /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libldap_r-2.4.so.2(ldap_pvt_tls_init_def_ctx+0x1d)[0x7fc68bb108ed] /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libldap_r-2.4.so.2(+0x35965)[0x7fc68bb10965] /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libldap_r-2.4.so.2(+0x35a6d)[0x7fc68bb10a6d] /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libldap_r-2.4.so.2(ldap_int_tls_start+0x5d)[0x7fc68bb1149d] The actual double free happens in openldap/libraries/libldap/tls2.c:ldap_int_tls_init_ctx(), in the ldap_pvt_tls_ctx_free(lo-ldo_tls_ctx); call in the error_exit: path. The root cause of the double free is lack of GnuTLS return value checks when calling gnutls_priority*() functions. The code simply assumes they succeed, and when GnuTLS fails to provide a valid context due to those failures, ldap_int_tls_init_ctx() tries to free the never-fully- initialized context. A simple fix is to create GnuTLS security contexts using the configured cipher suite string, instead of NORMAL as openldap/libraries/libldap/tls_g.c now does. If the cipher suite string is invalid, then do not create the context at all. This is caught earlier in ldap_int_tls_init_ctx(), and avoids the crash. ** Affects: openldap (Ubuntu) Importance: Medium Status: Triaged ** Affects: openldap (Debian) Importance: Unknown Status: Fix Released ** Tags: patch -- Invalid GnuTLS cipher suite strings causes libldap to crash https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1103353 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to the bug report. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 927651] Re: 'nagios-nrpe-plugin' unnecessarily recommends 'nagios3' package
One may argue that by default, you may not want to install EITHER nagios3 OR icinga. [Bug 1438428] [NEW] [SRU] New upstream Release 1.7.2
Public bug reported: MAAS 1.7.2 is a new MAAS upstream release. This new upstream release of MAAS introduces completely new features that improve the robustness of MAAS as a whole, the usability, fixing major usability issues with previous MAAS releases [Impact] MAAS 1.7.2 is a new upstream that improves MAAS in several different ways: 1. Contains an Image Store to ensure that images are up to date across all cluster controllers 2. More robust. MAAS tracks progress of its various operations, to ensure that nodes are in the state they should be. If nodes failed to commission, MAAS will know about it. If nodes fail to Install, MAAS will know about it. 3. MAAS tracks the power status of each machine, to ensure they reflect reality. 4. Enablement for various hardware chassis. 5. MAAS 1.7 provides various UI improvements and fixes to improve the user experience and usability. 6. RPC Security. New security authentication mechanism is in place. 7. Support for third Party OS's (Windows, CentOS, SLES) and Custom Images. 8. Removal of Celery and RabbitMQ in favor of RPC. 9. New maas-proxy instead of the use of squid-deb-proxy [Test Case] 1. sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade 2. Enlist nodes. 3. Commission nodes. 4. Deploy new nodes. [Regression Potential] MAAS 1.7.2 is fully API compatible with previous MAAS Releases. Users upgrading to MAAS 1.7 will need to re-import the image so these are stored in the Image Store. Users also need to be aware that if they have custom preseeds include a new file name to account for non-Ubuntu OS's. [ Bjoern Boschman ] * Removed hardening-wrapper from build-deps. * Added python dep for mysql-testsuite-5.6. * Added dpkg-dev dep. * Cleanup a bit more. [ Robie Basak ] * Add dep8 smoke test. * Re-enable libmysqld-pic, libmysqld-dev, libmysqlclient18 and libmysqlclient-dev (renamed accordingly) to replace binary packages provided by src:mysql-5.5. * Add mysql-server, mysql-client and mysql-testsuite to be switched over from src:mysql-5.5. * Import mysql-common from src:mysql-5.5 for 5.5 - 5.6 switchover. * Cherry-pick relevant parts of Ubuntu delta from mysql-5.5: - d/mysql-server-5.5.postrm: restoring postrm debhelper token to get proper behaviors from dh_installinit and dh_apparmor. - Add Apport hook. [ Robie Basak ] * AppArmor-related fixes (LP: #1421303): - d/rules: call dh_apparmor from override_dh_install so that it is run before dh_installinit. This causes the AppArmor profile to be loaded correctly before mysqld is started. - d/mysql-server-5.6.postinst: manually load the AppArmor profile earlier in the postinst as a workaround, since the postinst needs to start mysqld for bootstrapping purposes before the dh_apparmor snippet has run (workaround for bug tracked in LP #1435368). [ Oleg Strikov ] * d/mysql-server-5.6.{mysql.service, postinst, postrm}: Fix to create /var/run/mysql using facilities provided by systemd. I don't understand why it hasn't yet been released through system's updates... This package is in universe. I'm not sure that anyone's looking after it any more. We all moved to using cloud images instead.
