[Bug 1481289] [NEW] PHP 5.5.9 Default socket timeout being not honoured by application

2015-08-04 Thread Phil
Public bug reported:

Hello,

There exists in PHP 5.5.9-1ubuntu4.11, a known bug,
https://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=41631 which has been patched and applied
to PHP version 5.5.17 / 5.5.18 and also upstream 5.5/5.6/master
branches.

PHP allows a socket timeout to set which is not honoured in code
execution. This is business critical for the system I work on.

The timeout is set with a single line of code:
ini_set('default_socket_timeout', 10);

A patch exists that can be applied to non fixed PHP versions.

Can the patch, found here: https://bugs.php.net/patch-
display.php?bug_id=41631patch=bug41631.patchrevision=latest, be
applied to the version of PHP 5.5.9 in Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS and rolled out
please?

Thank you,

[Bug 1354193] Re: Variables in /etc/default/tomcat7 overridden in /etc/init.d/tomcat7

[Bug 1481337] [NEW] please update keepalived to version 1.2.17 or higher

2015-08-04 Thread Leon Keijser
Public bug reported:

The version in 14.04 is 1:1.2.7-1ubuntu1

There's an issue with reloading the configuration file, where the state
of VRRP gets 'confused' (in lack of a better description), resulting in
a floating IP being available on more than one host.

This issue seems to be fixed in 1.2.17. Since the package hasn't had an
update in over 2 years, I kindly request it to be updated to at least
1.2.17

For more information, see http://www.keepalived.org/changelog.html

Extra info:
1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System -
About Ubuntu

Description:Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS
Release:14.04

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy
pkgname' or by checking in Software Center

1:1.2.7-1ubuntu1

3) What you expected to happen

Keepalived config reloaded without interruption of services. VRRP should
notice VIP being present on one host and do nothing.

4) What happened instead

Keepalived config was reloaded but VRRP decided to activate the VIP on
the host that didn't have it previously. Resulting in routing errors
etc.

[Bug 1443041] Re: AUTHBIND is incorrectly configured to run Tomcat7 on port 80 or 443

2015-08-04 Thread Emmanuel Bourg
Thank you for the report James, the IPv6 fix has been applied in Debian for
tomcat7 ( 7.0.63-1) and tomcat8
( 8.0.24-1). The authbind file was already installed with chmod 700, so
nothing to change here. I have left the port range as is to avoid breaking
existing installations, but we can still reevaluate this for tomcat9.

[Bug 1481038] Re: iproute2 crashes being reported since kernel version 3.13-0-59-generic

2015-08-04 Thread Stefan Bader
Maybe we should make sure that this remains a problem with the latest
kernel *-61.100. The -59 kernel caused a lot of other problems. Usually
those were related to executing a 64bit binary from a 32bit binary. But
I would not completely rule out other odd failures. So if all the
reports are with -59 and the numbers again go down it is probably
related to that.

[Bug 1389897] Re: no way to install enough qemu for kvm in a cross platform way

2015-08-04 Thread dann frazier
** Description changed:

- There is currently no way to install just enough qemu to have kvm work.
- On x86 you can install qemu-kvm, but even on the other architectures
- where this is built (e.g. armhf) it depends on qemu-system-x86. Or you
- can install qemu-system but that installs way more than you need.
+ [Impact]
+ There is currently no way to install just enough qemu to have kvm work. On
x86 you can install qemu-kvm, but even on the other architectures where this is
built (e.g. armhf) it depends on qemu-system-x86. Or you can install
qemu-system but that installs way more than you need.

- Quick consensus seemed to be that qemu-kvm should depend on the
- appropriate qemu-system-$ARCH.
+ [Test Case]
+ $ apt-get install qemu-kvm
+ This should pull in the appropriate qemu packages to run KVM on the host.
+
+ [Regression Risk]
+ This is a new package for some archs (arm64/powerpc/ppc64el), so that
minimizes the risk of regression there. The biggest risk I see is if someone on
armhf was using 'apt-get install qemu-kvm' as a shorthand for installing
qemu-system-x86. It seems unlikely (read: very slow) for someone to try to be
running emulated x86 on armhf. That said, the upgrade to this won't force
qemu-system-x86 off of their system - it would just be a behavior change for
new installs.

[Bug 1409904] Re: Needed patches for InfiniBand Support: Flow Steering and Offload Support + Fixes

2015-08-04 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
After talking to Chris Arges (arges) and Adam Conrad (infinity):

It was clear that if libibverbs fixes (HW enablement) break ABI
compatibility then they are not suitable for a Trusty SRU.

I'll break those fixes and return all of them to their respective cases
since there won't be any ABI being broken:

TGT daemon supporting iSER (iSCSI over IB) fixes (WILL BE FIXED HERE
since Vivid Wily were already fixed here):

 - LP: #1401575 - iSER not working in Trusty - Invalid.
 - LP: #1445038 - TGT does not support ISER discovery - Duplicate of this bug.
 - LP: #1443648 - iSER logouts cause kernel panic in 3.13 - Fix committed.

DHCP supporting IB properly:

 - LP: #1401141 - ISC DHCP server does not work with InfiniBand - Fix
released.

QPID compilation problem:

 - LP: #1367255 - qpid-cpp depends on ruby1.8 and should depend on
ruby1.9 - Will attach fix.

And all libibverbs rdepends:

- srptools
- rdmacm-utils
- perftest
- librdmawrap2
- libopenmpi1.6
- libnes1
- libmthca1
- libmlx5-1
- libipathverbs1
- libibcm1
- libcxgb3-1
- ibverbs-utils
- glusterfs-common
- fio
- libtotem-pg5
- librdmacm1

Will be safe and not touched.

[Bug 1481213] Re: [MIR] python-funcsigs, python-linecache2, python-traceback2

2015-08-04 Thread James Page
@doko

All of these packages are a backport of the module current tip release
of python, supported on all python versions that we care about in Ubuntu
(and Debian).

This was discussed on the Debian Python ML:

  https://lists.debian.org/debian-python/2015/07/msg6.html

with some input from lifeless who is the upstream developer of alot of
this work; python3-unittest2 != unittest in Python 3.4 for example.

This is a shift we're seeing in terms of migration approach to py3;
importing a single namespaced package that just works on whatever Python
is *easy* for developers, even if it does make life harder for us in the
distro.

(and just for reference, I'm not driving any of this - so please don't
shoot me :-))

[Bug 1481388] [NEW] NTP : Use-after-free in routing socket code after dropping root

2015-08-04 Thread eric.desrochers

A few minute/seconds after a start attempts we can see the following in syslog:
Jul 1 05:33:28 svpr-stk67 ntpd[2729]: peers refreshed
Jul 1 05:33:28 svpr-stk67 ntpd[2729]: Listening on routing socket on fd #49 for

I tried to compare it to other servers, and the only thing I could find that is
different is that while it's up (before it crashes) I can see the following

[Bug 1481579] [NEW] amavisd-new throws stderr when running cron job

2015-08-04 Thread quanta
Public bug reported:

- Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS
- amavisd-new 1:2.7.1-2ubuntu3

/etc/cron.d/amavisd-new

```
#
#  SpamAssassin maintenance for amavisd-new
#
# m h dom mon dow user  command
18 */3  * * *   amavis  test -e /usr/sbin/amavisd-new-cronjob
24 1  * * *   amavis  test -e /usr/sbin/amavisd-new-cronjob
/usr/sbin/amavisd-new-cronjob sa-clean
```

The contents of `/usr/sbin/amavisd-new-cronjob` file:

```
if ! perl -MMail::SpamAssassin -e my \$spamtest = Mail::SpamAssassin-new();
\$spamtest-compile_now (); \$spamtest-{conf}-{use_bayes} ? exit 0 : exit 1
then
#bayes is disabled - just exit
sa-clean)
/usr/bin/sa-learn --sync --force-expire 21 /dev/null
;;
*)
echo $0: unknown cron routine $1 2
exit 1
;;
esac
```

There are 2 problems here:

1. It throws a stderr message at the first time running:

```
bash -x /usr/sbin/amavisd-new-cronjob sa-sync
+ test -e /usr/bin/sa-learn
+ test -e /usr/sbin/amavisd-new
config: created user preferences file: /var/lib/amavis/.spamassassin/user_prefs
+ case $1 in
+ /usr/bin/sa-learn --sync
+ exit 0
```

This should be silent as it's run in a cron job.

2. To redirect both stdout and stderr to /dev/null, the redirection
order should `/dev/null 21` instead of `21 /dev/null` (this one
just redirects stdout).

[Bug 1406105] Re: Broken logrotate script in freeradius-2.1.12+dfsg-1.2ubuntu8 on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

2015-08-04 Thread Robert C Jennings
Here is a debdiff to show how we can manage the process properly in an
upstart job (missing exec) so that a restart or reload works as we would
expect. The patch also fixes the logrotate script to use the upstart
controls rather than the systemv init script (which should not have been
shipped because it isn't used on Trusty).

Prior to this patch you can't restart/reload the process because the
process isn't properly managed by upstart and logrotate's reload of
freeradius was a no-op. With this patch, logstart will properly call
'service freeradius reload', ignoring failure due to the service not
running.

Package upgrade is a problem Is there a way to fix the management
of a running freeradius process on a user's system when this package is
updated? We would not want to perform an unexpected restart of the
service and without this fix reloading the service won't work (nor will
the restart because it kills the shell that start the freeradius process
but not the freeradius process itself). However, having the upgraded
package on the system won't make the current situation any worse and
will resolve the issue on the first reboot (or manually killing
freeradius and starting again).

Best I know that we can do is put the fix in place and it will be
available after a restart; having the upgraded package on the system
won't make the current situation any worse but it won't fix the issue
prior to a restart or some manual intervention to clean up the unmanaged
freeradius process.

To illustrate the current process problem:
 1 - Install freeradius on trusty
 2 - Run 'start freeradius'
 3 - Get the PID upstart is using for freeradius with 'status freeradius'
 4 - Check ps for that PID
(e.g. if PID is 1023 run 'ps -ef | grep 1023 | grep -v grep'. Upstart job
PID will map to /bin/sh, the parent of freeradius)
 5 - Run 'reload freeradius'.
  Expect success, exit 0 and freeradius is still running (SIGHUP was not
delivered, check with a shim if you like)
 6 -  Run 'status freeradius' .
  Results in freeradius stop/waiting because the parent shell script died
when it received HUP but freeradius is still running.
 7 - Run 'ps -ef |grep freeradius'.
  Expect freeradius still running (same PID as step 4 but PPID is now init)
  This process isn't tracked by upstart now. You can't 'start freeradius'
because the new process will exit upon failing to open the port already opened
by the untracked freeradius.

[Bug 1267393] Re: [MIR] juju-core, juju-mongodb, gccgo, golang

2015-08-04 Thread Ian Booth
RE: some of the issues raised in comment 48

- juju-backup shell script uses incorrect quoting method needlessly

Juju no longer uses a shell script for backup. That was a short term
implementation which has now been replaced by server side functionality
written in go.

- The local environment hardcodes use of 'sudo' to raise privileges

Juju's behaviour has changed in this area, I am not sure if what is done
now is sufficient to consider the above issue addressed. Juju requires
sudo when using the local provider because user mode lxc did/does not
exist in all supported series. What Juju does now is to allow the user
to execute bootstrap without first being root, and prompts to elevate
privileges as needed to start the lxc containers. This is different to
the original behaviour which was to require sudo juju bootstrap thus
elevating the entire bootstrap process.

This command:

addgroup --system --quiet ntp

is idempotent on default precise systems, so it's not quite clear why it
fails on your system. Maybe it's possible to do some debugging on

[Bug 1481038] Re: iproute2 crashes being reported since kernel version 3.13-0-59-generic

2015-08-04 Thread Brian Murray
Stefan - that sounds like a good plan to me. Looking at the crashes from
2015-08-03 we can see the following:

 $ grep ^   20150803-iproute2-crashes.txt | awk -F, {'print $3'} | sort |
uniq -c
 22  Linux 3.13.0-59-generic x86_64
  1  Linux 3.13.0-61-generic x86_64
  1  Linux 3.19.0-25-generic x86_64
  1  Linux 3.19.0-26-generic x86_64

Looking at the -61- crash it is actually a package installation failure
so not a concern. The two 3.19 crashes are a package installation
failure and a good, complete, iproute2 crash. So I think things are
looking better.

I've attached the crashes I reviewed from 2015-08-03.

[Bug 1472584] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla

2015-08-04 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From helle...@us.ibm.com 2015-08-04 15:52 EDT---
Hi Canonical.

Can we get this addressed with some higher priority, please? This has
been open for several weeks and all the necessary info was really
provided from the start..

It looks like the problem is reproducible on a fresh install of 14.04.03
LE and *not* reproducible on the BE of the same release, and both these
results have been reproduced on your side as well.

We've already provided detailed log output from both client and server
side, and that does not seem to show any problem. If there is more info
we can provide please let us know. But really, if its reproducible on
you side that shouldn't be necessary.

Thank you!

[Bug 1481294] Re: 14.04.3: in kvm install full disk from the i386 install when you go to login it returns you to the login page

2015-08-04 Thread Adam Conrad
This is a bug in either (or both) llvmpipe/qemu. Booting with a -cpu
that is slightly less broken than the qemu emulated CPU (ie: -cpu host
or -cpu core2duo) works around the issue.

** Package changed: lightdm (Ubuntu) = llvm-toolchain-3.6 (Ubuntu)

** Also affects: qemu (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

[Bug 1481440] [NEW] multi-arch ld cannot find -lSDL or -LSDL-1.2

2015-08-04 Thread Bryce Schober
Public bug reported:

I'm trying to compile a 32-bit application on Trusty x86-64. I've
installed the libsdl1.2-dev and libsdl1.2debian:i386 packages
successfully. When I try to compile any 32-bit application that links to
-lSDL, it fails to link.

#include SDL/SDL.h
int main(int argc, char* argv[])
{
if (SDL_Init(SDL_INIT_VIDEO) != 0) {
exit(1);
}
SDL_Quit();
return 0;
}

The above trivial C application below builds just fine as 64-bit with the
following command: gcc main.c -lSDL
But when I try to build it with the -m32 flag, using the command: gcc -m32
main.c -Wl,--verbose -lSDL
I get the following output:

[Bug 1481388] Re: NTP : Use-after-free in routing socket code after dropping root

2015-08-04 Thread eric.desrochers
The remove_ and delete_ functions remove the current element from the
asyncio_reader_list, and free it, respectively.

We then return back to the loop at the top, wherein the asyncio_reader variable
still points at the now-freed element,
whose contents are now scrambled by having link pointers, etc, from internal
malloc state overlaying the data.

This loop should probably extract the -link pointer prior to calling
-receiver(), as that function can free the asyncio_reader object in
question. (LP: #1481388)

Re: [Bug 1372051] ntp postinst user/group add commands are not idempotent

Ryan,

Thanks for looking into this.
Yes, the machine in question has been running for many years, might even have
started with a non LTS ubuntu before 12.04.
Attached you can find my current copy. It’s a bit weird that it’s not replaced
when upgrading to the 12.04 version of ntp package ..

 Examining the postinst scripts in current precise ( ), and various
 trusty versions of the ntp package, the script is always idempotent
 w.r.t adding the ntp group. It's not clear to me which version of the
 ntp package had a post-inst script that wasn't idempotent. Getting a
 copy of the ntp.postinst script that is failing would be most useful.

 One workaround to the dist-upgrade issue is to apt-get remove --purge
 ntp (which will run the postrm hook to remove the ntp group) prior to
 upgrading.

[Bug 1406105] Re: Broken logrotate script in freeradius-2.1.12+dfsg-1.2ubuntu8 on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

2015-08-04 Thread Robert C Jennings
Wily is using the systemV init scripts and is not affected by this bug.

Trusty is using upstart which lacks a reload function currently.

Changing the logrotate postrotate script on trusty to call 'service
freeradius reload' will not work without explicitly creating a reload
function in the upstart job. The patch as included in comment #2 will
kill the parent of freeradius (which is the upstart shell script) and
will attempt to restart it but the original freeradius process is still
running and no longer managed by upstart. When this occurs, upstart
will show that the freeradius service is not running and will not be
able to start it because the port is in use by the un-managed freeradius
process.

Next action:
 - Investigate adding a reload handler for the upstart job. This will need the
PID for the freeradius process that was started so that it can send a HUP
signal as seen in the systemV init job. In the case that the PID file is
missing then the reload should do nothing and exit cleanly as the lack of PID
file would indicate that freeradius is not running; we would not want to
restart the service as this would have the affect of starting a stopped
service. Then change logrotate script in trusty to call 'service freeradius
reload' and consider removing the redirect to /dev/null.

I have run out of time today but have left these notes so that we can
pursue it further.

[Bug 1372051] Re: ntp postinst user/group add commands are not idempotent

2015-08-04 Thread Ryan Harper
I booted a precise server image:

ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ cat /etc/issue
Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS \n \l

ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ uname -a
Linux ubuntu 3.2.0-88-virtual #126-Ubuntu SMP Mon Jul 6 21:50:59 UTC 2015
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Installed ntp:

% sudo apt-get install ntp
...
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise-updates/main ntp amd64
1:4.2.6.p3+dfsg-1ubuntu3.4

ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ grep ntp /etc/group
ntp:x:112:

Then do-release-upgrade to move to 14.04 with no issues.

One workaround to the dist-upgrade issue is to apt-get remove --purge
ntp (which will run the postrm hook to remove the ntp group) prior to
upgrading.

[Bug 1472712] Re: Using SSL with rabbitmq prevents communication between nova-compute and conductor after latest nova updates

2015-08-04 Thread Edward Hope-Morley
A bit more info from my end. I've been trying out different scenarios
and it seems that this is constrained to Trusty Icehouse using python-
oslo.messaging version 1.3.0-0ubuntu1.2 configured to connect to
rabbitmq-server using ssl e.g. my nova.conf has:

rabbit_userid = nova
rabbit_virtual_host = openstack
rabbit_password =
gr6Mx2FJhC8NH3P4dBRGH8tYT39s6LLcMfJChKM6dtb3rpN5wfkRWVBcMLdhqp58
rabbit_host = 10.5.6.86
rabbit_use_ssl = True
rabbit_port = 5671
kombu_ssl_ca_certs = /etc/nova/rabbit-client-ca.pem

I've played around with reverting back to 1.3.0-0ubuntu1 (which does not
appear to exhibit the issue) and re-adding patches one-by-one and have
found that simply adding the patch for bug 1400268 causes the issue to
occur. So, question is what is it about that patch that causes these
issues?

[Bug 1409904] Re: Needed patches for InfiniBand Support: Flow Steering and Offload Support + Fixes

2015-08-04 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
After talking to Chris Arges (arges) and Adam Conrad (infinity):

It was clear that if libibverbs fixes (HW enablement) break ABI
compatibility then they are not suitable for a Trusty SRU.

I'll break those fixes and return all of them to their respective cases
since there won't be any ABI being broken:

--

1) TGT daemon supporting iSER (iSCSI over IB) fixes (WILL BE FIXED HERE
since Vivid Wily were already fixed here):

- LP: #1401575 - iSER not working in Trusty - Invalid.
- LP: #1445038 - TGT does not support ISER discovery - Duplicate of this bug.
- LP: #1443648 - iSER logouts cause kernel panic in 3.13 - Fix committed.

--

2) DHCP supporting IB properly:

- LP: #1401141 - ISC DHCP server does not work with InfiniBand - Fix
released.

--

3) QPID compilation problem:

- LP: #1367255 - qpid-cpp depends on ruby1.8 and should depend on
ruby1.9 - Will attach fix.

--

4) Libibverbs and Libmlx4 - Still checking ABI (if it was broken or
not). If a fix is possible it will be made here.

All libibverbs and libmlx4 rdepends are safe and won't be touched:

- srptools
- rdmacm-utils
- perftest
- librdmawrap2
- libopenmpi1.6
- libnes1
- libmthca1
- libmlx5-1
- libipathverbs1
- libibcm1
- libcxgb3-1
- ibverbs-utils
- glusterfs-common
- fio
- libtotem-pg5
- librdmacm1

[Bug 1481556] Re: [needs-packaging] 1.24.4 is not packaged in wily

2015-08-04 Thread Curtis Hovey
Hi Robie and all interested parties.

I have linked a source package branch to update Juju to 1.24.4 in wily.

The debian diff can be seen at
http://people.canonical.com/~curtis/wily-juju-1.24.4/debian.diff

There are several kinds of changes in the juju-core release files reflected
in debian/copyright that I can summarise:

1. Go packages dropped:
   * src/bitbucket.org/kardianos/osext
   * src/bitbucket.org/kardianos/service
   * src/code.google.com/p/go.crypto
   * src/code.google.com/p/winsvc

2. Go packages added
   [1] note 2 packages had licence issues that I reported upstream during
   development of 1.24.0. This point release has the upstream fixes, we
   avoided the need to document licensing exceptions:
   * src/github.com/ajstarks/svgo
   * src/github.com/altoros/gosigma
   * src/github.com/coreos/go-systemd
   * src/github.com/dustin/go-humanize
   * src/github.com/godbus/dbus
   * src/github.com/juju/govmomi
   * src/github.com/juju/jujusvg
   * src/github.com/juju/persistent-cookiejar
   * src/github.com/juju/replicaset
   * src/golang.org/x/oauth2
   * src/google.golang.org/api
   * src/google.golang.org/cloud
   * src/gopkg.in/errgo.v1 [1]
   * src/gopkg.in/juju/charm.v5
   * src/gopkg.in/juju/charmstore.v4 [1]
   * src/gopkg.in/macaroon-bakery.v0
   * src/gopkg.in/macaroon.v1

3. Projects moved from launchpad.net; inflating the diff:
   * src/launchpad.net/goamz - src/gopkg.in/amz.v3
   * src/launchpad.net/goose - src/gopkg.in/goose.v1

4. Forks of upstream golang to fix issues in golang 1.2 system packages:
   * src/github.com/gabriel-samfira/sys
   * src/github.com/juju/govmomi/vim25/xml
   * src/github.com/juju/httpprof
   * src/github.com/juju/xml

5. Fixes for copyright issues in response to the bugs we reported previously:
   * src/github.com/juju/cmd
   * src/github.com/juju/gojsonpointer
   * src/github.com/juju/gojsonreference
   * src/github.com/juju/gojsonschema
   * src/github.com/juju/juju
   * src/github.com/juju/utils

6. Packages updated to get fixes or new API:
   * src/github.com/juju/blobstore
   * src/github.com/juju/names
   * src/github.com/juju/testing
   * src/golang.org/x/crypto
   * src/gopkg.in/check.v1
   * src/gopkg.in/mgo.v2
   * src/gopkg.in/natefinch/lumberjack.v2
   * src/launchpad.net/gomaasapi

I audited the embedded go packages based on a diff of the dependencies.tsv
http://people.canonical.com/~curtis/wily-juju-1.24.4/dep.diff
and this script to identify undocumented deps:

for dep in $(cat src/github.com/juju/juju/dependencies.tsv | cut -f 3); do
grep -q Last verified commit $dep debian/copyright || echo Review
$dep
done

The actual diff between 1.22.6 and 1.24.4 is a mind-numbing 1,123,180 lines;
http://people.canonical.com/~curtis/wily-juju-1.24.4/1.22.6-1.24.4.diff.gz

I singled out src/githib.com/juju/juju for special attention since files
are moved in and out the project;
http://people.canonical.com/~curtis/wily-juju-1.24.4/juju.diff.gz

[Bug 1406105] Re: Broken logrotate script in freeradius-2.1.12+dfsg-1.2ubuntu8 on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

2015-08-04 Thread Robert C Jennings
Robie / Chris,

Can you review comment #6 for the proposed patch and upgrade
issue/strategy?

The upstart config for freeradius is bad; reload(8) or restart(8) will
lose track of the process. A reload won't send SIGHUP to the right
process and a restart(8) will  not stop the existing freeradius process;
in either case upstart loses track of the process and thinks the service
has stopped, further attempts to start the service will fail because of
the existing process holding the port open. The patch fixes this for
new, clean starts of the service but on a running system I don't think
we have a way to make things better without manual intervention ('pkill
freeradius' when the user can afford to take the process down) or a
reboot.

I might be missing something clever, but I doubt there is a good way to
fix this for the different states we might find things in during
upgrade.

Scenarios:
1 - freeradius is not running. Upgrading the package is great.
2 - freeradius is runing and 'reload/restart' has been called previously (i.e.
upstart can't manage the freeradius process). Upgrading will not regress the
system because upstart could not manage the service prior to package upgrade.
3 - freeradius is running and 'reload/restart' has never been called (i.e.
upstart can still stop the process properly). Upgrading will fix logrotate and
the next rotation will call 'reload freeradius' causing upstart to lose track
of the process. It can no longer be stopped by upstart.

The only issue is scenario #3 which regresses the user's ability to stop
freeradius *if* they have not tried to reload or restart the service. I
don't think that we can take the action to restart the service on
package upgrade if upstart can still manage the service due to service
interruption. The next logrotation attempt will ensure that the user
can not manage freeradius from upstart.

Seth, can you re-review juju in light of this response?
