during the development of my project testssl.sh users encountered a bug
which was tracked down to the awkward situation that if the environment
variable OPENSSL_CONF is defined in a certain way DNS resultion fails

Steps tp reproduce under 14.04 LTS:

Unfortunately there are a lot of variations with HWE kernels, so I also
got hit by not noticing there is the correct testing missing for 14.04
userspace/dkms with the 3.19 kernel. Sorry about that. Only good here is
that iscsitarget is universe, so it is not part of the iso. Just that a
fix needs to be done for the archive. Could someone give the two debs a
go before I try to get the source uploaded?

Any news on verifying this?

Edward, looks like the devices aren't set up to have the same serial
number, so I'm not sure why they would ever be picked up by multipath as
being multipath devices. In any case, have you tested the update in
-proposed, which should fix this?

Was able to verify the fix for this bug today. Installed cinder from the
trusty-proposed pocket and ran the following tests to confirm:

# Test one, ensure default option remains to write-cache on
1. create volume
2. attach iscsi volume to instance
3. Verify generated xml in /var/lib/cinder/volumes/ is generated 
with write-cache on.

# Change the iscsi-write-cache to off and restart cinder volumes
1. Set iscsi_write_cache = off in /etc/cinder/cinder.conf
2. Create lvm volume
3. Attach via iscsi to instance
4. Verify generated xml in /var/lib/cinder/volumes/ is generated 
with write-cache off

Feedback from upstream at https://github.com/systemd/systemd/pull/1265 :
Apparently noexec on /dev breaks some drivers which expose memory-mapped
devices in /dev/. So retitling for "nosuid" only. systemd already does
that, initramfs-tools doesn't yet, but the attached patch needs to be
modified to only set "nosuid".

I committed http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/pkg-
systemd/systemd.git/commit/?id=470c174f so that under sysvinit and
without initramfs-tools udev will  now mount /dev with "nosuid" as well.
This case doesn't apply to Ubuntu, so once again closing the systemd
task.

With moodle as php script apache exits with this log:

Accepted bcache-tools into trusty-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bcache-
tools/1.0.7-1~14.04.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

I'm not familiar with Centrify at all, but this sounds to me like the
centrify-kcm init script Provides: slapd. If that's the case, you're
probably hitting Debian bug #606593 . Resolving it without removing centrify-
kcm's ability to satisfy slapd dependencies would require us to
coördinate a virtual service
 with
the Centrify folks.

As a local workaround, if you do want to have slapd and centrify-kcm
installed together, you could just remove the Provides: slapd from the
centrify-kcm init script.

Reassigning to insserv for now; feel free to reassign back if some
openldap change is needed (for example coördinating a virtual service
with Centrify).

Applied the udev.init change in http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/pkg-
systemd/systemd.git/commit/?id=63dff1e2132b for Debian. But it is
totally irrelevant for Ubuntu, as we don't support SysV init. Under
upstart /etc/init/udev does not do any mounting, it relies on mountall
to do that, thus this needs to be added to /lib/init/fstab. systemd
already mounts it with MS_NOSUID (but not with MS_NOEXEC).

But in all cases the dominating and important thing here is initramfs-
tools, where /dev is usually mounted.
