[Bug 1346740] Re: drac plugin in dovecot uses wrong plugin version string

2015-10-26 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Looks like this still affects Debian VCS master since the patch there
also uses DOVECOT_VERSION: http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/collab-
maint/dovecot.git/tree/debian/patches/dovecot-drac.patch#n58

If this is true, then this needs to be verified in Debian and a bug
filed there, as a fixed patch would need to be applied to both. Patches
welcome.

> Same issue like Guillaume. Please set importance to high.

Sorry, I disagree. GIven that this is being reported as affecting 14.04,
it has been out for 18 months now and only three users are affected
according to this report, it is reasonable to assume that this affects
unusual end-user configurations, so according to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Importance the appropriate importance is
Low.

However, that doesn't stop any affected from helping. If someone
provides a patch I will help get it landed.

[Bug 1509586] Re: SSLv3 enabled in apache2 by default

2015-10-26 Thread Robie Basak
I have verified that apache2 2.4.12-2ubuntu2 (in Vivid and Wily) ships
with:

SSLProtocol all -SSLv3

I'm with Seth in that retrospectively updating existing 14.04
deployments risks breaking users. Even if we could update only fresh
installs of 14.04, that would be particularly confusing and break for
existing users who have a reproducible deployment as is current best
practice.

On the other hand, users still deploy 14.04 fresh today, and best
practice would be to configure new deployments with SSLv3 disabled.
Perhaps we should have a place where we can document this kind of thing?
The release notes in a point release perhaps? However there are no more
point releases for 14.04 scheduled. So I'll mark this Won't Fix for
Trusty, but welcome conversation on this issue.

[Bug 288905] Re: /etc/init.d/ntp doesnt use ntpdate to ensure clocks are aligned before starting server.

2015-10-26 Thread Cam Cope
It can be dangerous to step the clock while applications are running
(see the fallout from the last couple of leap seconds). Stepping only
needs to be done at boot. It makes more sense to just have separate init
scripts for both ntpdate and ntp and to order them correctly. Adding
ntpdate to the ntp init script would make it impossible to make changes
to your ntpd configuration without stepping the clock (again, dangerous)
or rebootinng.

[Bug 1125726] Re: boot-time race between /etc/network/if-up.d/ntpdate and "/etc/init.d/ntp start"

2015-10-26 Thread Cam Cope
The fix for 246203 was wrong: http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-
branches/ubuntu/karmic/ntp/karmic/revision/23

The issue is that the ntp init script is started inside the ntpdate ifup
script BEFORE the lock file is unlocked. That init script then blocks
because the lock is taken. The correct fix is to unlock before starting
the init script.

The lock is supposed to be shared because both services cannot run at
the same time, otherwise one of them will fail to start. ntpd usually
wins right now because it gets started more times, but we have
encountered a fairly easy to reproduced scenario where ntpdate fails to
step the clock at boot, resulting in wildly inaccurate system times. I
have attached a patch which fixes the problem here.

[Bug 1509414] Re: pre-installed lxc in cloud image produces broken lxc (and later lxd) containers

2015-10-26 Thread Robie Basak
> Doing so would require the CPC team to update /etc/default/lxc-net,
setting USE_LXC_BRIDGE to false.

Note that this would cause a conffile prompt for all users using cloud
images who dist-upgrade to pick up the latest updates after another lxc
SRU, which breaks people doing automatic deployments (even though they
could override, many don't). I think you're not planning to do this now
anyway? Anyway, I think it's important for everyone to understand that
altering conffiles as part of cloud image builds causes future problems
and so need to be avoided - especially for default cases.

Based on the version number, I presume this is an attempted rebuild of
the package in 14.04? When reporting bugs in the future please use
apport by using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. That
way the bug report will automatically end up under the correct package
with version numbers and other related information included. You can

[Bug 1251298] Re: Failed to sign on to LRMd with Heartbeat/Pacemaker

2015-10-26 Thread John Leach
an easier workaround than setting up your own symlinks is to just tell
heartbeat to use the lrmd binary provided by the pacemaker package
directly.

In /etc/heartbeat/ha.cf just add the line:

respawn root /usr/lib/pacemaker/lrmd

package still needs fixing though!

**Region Controller now running on twisted.**
The MAAS Region Controller is now running as a twisted daemon. It is
no longer dependent on Apache in order to run. The MAAS Region
controller is now controlled by ``maas-regiond`` upstart job or systemd
unit. The ``maas-regiond`` daemon is available in port ``5240``.

**Firewall ports for Region and Cluster controller communication**
The communication between Region and Cluster controller is now limited
to use the ports between ``5250`` and ``5259``. For all of those users who
are using a remote cluster (not running on the same machine as the
MAAS Region Controller), need to ensure that these ports are open in
   the firewall.

  Major new features

  **Web UI Re-design**
MAAS now includes a newly re-designed Web UI. The new Web UI features

   features include:

   * Live Updating
The new UI now allows users to view the current status of the
various nodes of MAAS in real-time and without having to manually
     refresh the browser.

   * Bulk Actions

nodes or devices are not in a state where that action can be
performed MAAS will alert you to the machines allowing you to
modify your selection before performing the action.

   * Live Searching
View the matching nodes or devices as you search. Just type and the
nodes will start to filter, no reloading or waiting for the page to
     load.

   * Better Filtering
Easily filter through the list of nodes and devices in MAAS to find

[Bug 1510318] [NEW] Augeas 1.3 can't read some conf files

2015-10-26 Thread Noah Swartz
Public bug reported:

https://github.com/hercules-team/augeas/issues/191
Augaes 1.3 can't read certain ssl.conf files, such as one of the ones Let's
Encrypt uses: https://github.com/letsencrypt/letsencrypt/issues/981
versions 1.2 and 1.4 of augaes don't have this problem, but currently vivid and
wily are distributing version 1.3:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=augeas-lenses
For Let's Encrypt to work for all Ubuntu users this bug should be fixed for
them.

[Bug 1475751] Re: need phablet support for mods to /etc/lxc/lxc-usernet (vivid+stable ppa overaly)

2015-10-26 Thread Stéphane Graber
Having a special username hardcoded in there seems wrong to me.
Eventually we will want to do proper multi-user on those devices or allow users
to rename the user at which point everything will break again.

What we may consider though is having LXC setup a new lxc-net group with
a matching group entry in /etc/lxc/lxc-usernet so that any member of
that group gets 10 veth in lxcbr0.

For that we'll need LXC 2.0 as I don't believe the lxc-usernet group
support existed back in 1.1.

[Bug 1503034] Re: Autofs 5.1.1-1ubuntu2 crashes with segfault on startup

2015-10-26 Thread Malcolm Scott
This is a regression due to recent (upstream?) refactoring of the
lookup_ldap module's lookup_init function (modules/lookup_ldap.c).

Nothing has initialised the config cache in lib/defaults.c before the
call to defaults_get_ldap_timeout on line 1668.

Previously, this module's first call to defaults.c was
defaults_get_searchdns(); that calls defaults_read_config to initialise
the config cache, whereas defaults_get_ldap_timeout doesn't do this.

Patch attached.

Possibly, for completeness, more functions in defaults.c (e.g.
defaults_get_ldap_network_timeout) should check that the config cache is
initialised before reading from it (at the risk of opening the config
file repeatedly).

[Bug 1510108] [NEW] pre-installed lxc in cloud-image means loss of access to 10.0.X.0/24

2015-10-26 Thread Scott Moser
Public bug reported:

Bug 1509414 describes fallout of inclusion of lxc in cloud images. The initial
inclusion caused 2 issues:
a.) containers created by 'lxc -t ubuntu-cloud' and 'lxd import-images ubuntu
wily' had completely broken networking
b.) all cloud images would have lost access to 10.0.3.0/24 networks.

The fix that went in fixes 'a' above. By default, containers created
for lxd and lxc will now work as expected.

This bug is opened to address the much less severe 'b'.

Now, on first boot lxc-net selects a network in the 10.0.X.0/24 to give
to the lxcbr0 bridge. It selects the network by simply looking for the
first available N where there . That code can be seen prior to fix in
debian/lxc.preinst [1] and after fix in config/init/common/lxc-net.in
[2]. Generally speaking it looks for local ip addresses on the targeted
network. That code is fairly simplistic. There are definitely cases
where it can pick a network that would be used by this system. The
result is that traffic destined for that network will be sent to the
lxcbr0 rather than out of the system to wherever it should go.

The suggested fix would be to make that code run on 'lxc' or 'lxd' usage
rather than on instance boot. By doing so, we reduce the set of users
possibly affected from all cloud-image users to all users of lxc or lxd.

Note, all users of lxd and lxc have been affected by this bug since at
least 14.04.

** Tags removed: verification-needed
** Tags added: verification-done

** Description changed:

  [Problem]
The released wily image preinstalls lxc, which breaks the assumption that
lxc's preinst packaging script makes:

It inspects the network to try to pick a 10.0.N.0 network that isn't
being used, with N starting at 3, so this appears to have picked
10.0.3.0 when it was installed on whatever system was generating the
  image.

When a container is started, it will dhcp on eth0 and get 10.0.3.X as
expected. The problem comes when the lxc-net service that is already
installed in that container starts and configures *its* lxcbr0 with
10.0.3.X. The networking inside the container is broken at that point.

This affects LXC containers, and should affect LXD containers but
doesn't currently, as the metadata used for lxd images is still pointing
  to a beta2 release (bug 1509390).

The easiest way to reproduce this is to use the ubuntu-cloud lxc
  template on a wily host.

  [Test Case]

1.) Verify expectation for each image
     - -disk1.img cloud image, check for file
     - -root.tar.xz image (used by lxd) and check for file
     - -root.tar.gz image (used by lxc)

For each of those images, verify:
a.) A cloud image should not have /etc/default/lxc-net
b.) lxd should be installed (dpkg-query --show | grep lxd)

2.) Start instance from updated image and start instance in lxc inside
launch instance on openstack or kvm or other
     verify lxcbr0 bridge exists
     lxc-create -t ubuntu-cloud -n bugcheck -- --release=wily --stream=daily
     # wait until lxc-ls --fancy shows 'running'
     lxc-attach -n bugcheck wget http://ubuntu.com

3.) Start instance from updated image and start instance in lxd inside
launch instance on openstack or kvm or other
     verify lxcbr0 bridge exists
     lxd import-images ubuntu wily
     lxc launch ubuntu
     # wait some amount
     lxc attach bugcheck wget http://ubuntu.com

  [Regression Potentional]
The highest chance for fallout is a change in the /24 network that is chosen
conflicting with some existing service.

  [Other Info]
Default apt install of lxc has always picked some 10.0.X.0/24 network to use
for its lxcbr0 bridge. That network (often 10.0.3.0/24) would then be
unreachable from the host. The same behavior occurs with libvirt-bin and many
other such services.

We are moving that logic to happen the first time that 'lxc-net' service
  starts.

This means first boot for a cloud instance rather than cloud-image build
  time.

  [Work around]
To patch / fix an existing cloud image to make lxc and lxd guests start
simply change the config of /etc/default/lxc-net to have something other than
10.0.3.0.

  sudo sed -i '/^LXC.*10[.]0[.][0-9][.]/s/10.0.[0-9]./10.0.4./g'
/etc/default/lxc-net &&
  sudo service lxc-net stop &&
  sudo service lxc-net start

There is other discussion there also as to the viability of that fix.

doesn't currently, as the metadata used for lxd images is still pointing
  to a beta2 release (bug 1509390).

The easiest way to reproduce this is to use the ubuntu-cloud lxc
  template on a wily host.

  [Test Case]

1.) Verify expectation for each image
     - -disk1.img cloud image, check for file
     - -root.tar.xz image (used by lxd) and check for file
     - -root.tar.gz image (used by lxc)

For each of those images, verify:
a.) A cloud image should not have /etc/default/lxc-net
b.) lxd should be installed (dpkg-query --show | grep lxd)

2.) Start instance from updated image and start instance in lxc inside
launch instance on openstack or kvm or other
     verify lxcbr0 bridge exists
     lxc-create -t ubuntu-cloud -n bugcheck -- --release=wily --stream=daily
     # wait until lxc-ls --fancy shows 'running'
     lxc-attach -n bugcheck wget http://ubuntu.com

3.) Start instance from updated image and start instance in lxd inside
launch instance on openstack or kvm or other
     verify lxcbr0 bridge exists
     lxd import-images ubuntu wily
     lxc launch ubuntu
     # wait some amount
     lxc attach bugcheck wget http://ubuntu.com

  [Regression Potentional]
- The highest chance for fallout is a change in the /16 network that is chosen
conflicting with some existing service.
+ The highest chance for fallout is a change in the /24 network that is chosen
conflicting with some existing service.

  [Other Info]
- Default apt install of lxc has always picked some 10.0.X.0/16 network to use
for its lxcbr0 bridge. That network (often 10.0.3.0/16) would then be
unreachable from the host. The same behavior occurs with libvirt-bin and many
other such services.
+ Default apt install of lxc has always picked some 10.0.X.0/24 network to use
for its lxcbr0 bridge. That network (often 10.0.3.0/24) would then be
unreachable from the host. The same behavior occurs with libvirt-bin and many
other such services.

We are moving that logic to happen the first time that 'lxc-net' service
  starts.

This means first boot for a cloud instance rather than cloud-image build
  time.

  [Work around]
To patch / fix an existing cloud image to make lxc and lxd guests start
simply change the config of /etc/default/lxc-net to have something other than
10.0.3.0.

  sudo sed -i '/^LXC.*10[.]0[.][0-9][.]/s/10.0.[0-9]./10.0.4./g'
/etc/default/lxc-net &&
  sudo service lxc-net stop &&
  sudo service lxc-net start

[Bug 1508565] Re: maas uses 3.13 (hwe-t) kernel which does not work on non-virtual IBM power

2015-10-26 Thread Scott Moser
My suggested plan forward would be:
a.) promote the 14.04:ppc64el:hwe-v to released for ppc64el
I will need someone to test that and suggest its reasonable
That can be done by using the daily stream and doing an install to a
 system marked as 'generic/hwe-v'
b.) remove 14.04:ppc64el:hwe-t product from both daily and released streams.
This exploits maas bug http://pad.lv/1508975 , but should end up
making even existing users to just start getting hwe-v kernels for
 enlistment, commissioning, and default install.
c.) document this ppc64el specific behavior in some external facing place
 this should
  i. describe why hwe-t/3.13 is not available for ppc64el.
ii. describe how to use linux-generic (3.13/hwe-t) in a maas
installed VM if desired. That looks something like:
sudo apt-get install linux-generic # probably not necessary
  sudo apt-get --purge remove
"linux-(image|headers)-(3.16.0|3.19.0|4.2.0)-.*"
  sudo apt-get autoremove
  sudo reboot
iii. inform the user about hwe kernels and what their support path
will be using their 'hwe-v', and subseqently hwe-w and then
  hwe-x kernels.
  probabably should point to [1]

I can do 'a' and 'b' above, but I suggest that 'c' should be done first.
I'm not sure what the appropriate place is for this documentation, and I'd be
looking for Mike or Michael or Jeff to write it.

Dannf has a point. The kernel is built with default ARM64 defconfig with
