[Bug 1360400] Re: Invalid maas.log permission caused django to crash

2015-10-28 Thread Alexander List
I just upgraded from 14.04 all the way to 15.10.

2015-10-28 10:17:17 upgrade maas-common:all 1.7.6+bzr3376-0ubuntu2~14.04.1
1.7.6+bzr3376-0ubuntu2~15.04.1
2015-10-28 10:54:59 upgrade maas-common:all 1.7.6+bzr3376-0ubuntu2~15.04.1
1.8.3+bzr4053-0ubuntu1

MAAS wouldn't start up, with this in syslog:

Oct 28 11:09:50 maas-region-hkg sh[2050]: ValueError: Unable to
configure handler 'log': [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/var/log/maas
/maas-django.log'

That file was owned by root:root, I chowned it to maas:maas, which seems
to have fixed the problem.

**Region Controller now running on twisted.**
The MAAS Region Controller is now running as a twisted daemon. It is
no longer dependent on Apache in order to run. The MAAS Region
controller is now controlled by ``maas-regiond`` upstart job or systemd
unit. The ``maas-regiond`` daemon is available in port ``5240``.

**Firewall ports for Region and Cluster controller communication**
The communication between Region and Cluster controller is now limited
to use the ports between ``5250`` and ``5259``. For all of those users who
are using a remote cluster (not running on the same machine as the
MAAS Region Controller), need to ensure that these ports are open in
   the firewall.

  Major new features

  **Web UI Re-design**
MAAS now includes a newly re-designed Web UI. The new Web UI features
a new design and a lot of usability improvements. Some of the UI new
   features include:

   * Live Updating
The new UI now allows users to view the current status of the
various nodes of MAAS in real-time and without having to manually
     refresh the browser.

[Bug 1503418] Re: [SRU] [REGRESSION] launching byobu from unity uses the terminal icon rather than the application icon

2015-10-28 Thread Dustin Kirkland 
Thanks for the suggestion, @pdecat.

I've applied that fix upstream against lp:byobu, tested and released it.
I've also uploaded an SRU for wily with this as the fix.

@trevino, you're welcome to close the bamf task, or fix it there too at
your discretion. Thanks!!!

I just upgraded to Wily yesterday, and it seems this regression has
crept up again (it happened around the Utopic timeframe too).

  Install Byobu.

  sudo apt-get install byobu

Open from the Unity Launcher. Press Windows icon. Type 'byobu'. Click

The MAAS Region Controller is now running as a twisted daemon. It is

The communication between Region and Cluster controller is now limited

[Bug 1508441] Re: mysql 5.5.46, 5.6.27 security update tracking bug

2015-10-28 Thread Tsukasa
Possible regression. I have vagrant -> puppet setting up ubuntu 14.04
from scratch on a semi-regular basis. After the package was released I
see this:

==> one: Setting up mysql-server-core-5.6 (5.6.27-0ubuntu0.14.04.1) ...
==> one: Setting up mysql-server-5.6 (5.6.27-0ubuntu0.14.04.1) ...
==> one: start: Job failed to start
==> one: invoke-rc.d: initscript mysql, action "start" failed.
==> one: dpkg: error processing package mysql-server-5.6 (--configure):
==> one: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit
status 1

After I SSH into the box and run it manually:

# /etc/init.d/mysql start
 * Starting MySQL database server mysqld
No directory, logging in with HOME=/
-su: 31: source: not found
   ...done.
 * Checking for tables which need an upgrade, are corrupt or were
not closed cleanly.

Then mysql server runs correctly.

More info:

# apt-cache policy mysql-server-5.6

[Bug 1509752] Re: Bug in ensure_not_symlink() from 0003-CVE-2015-1335.patch

(invalid would probably be a better status for the development release,
but i dont' want to scare the SRU team :)

Uploaded a workaround for this bug. Using the upstream fix sadly is
still broken by apparmor+overlayfs bugs.

[Bug 1509147] Re: [SRU] MAAS 1.8.3

2015-10-28 Thread Steve Langasek
The package as it was uploaded is completely un-SRUable; it includes
references to over 40 bugs in its .changes file, none of which will be
undergoing SRU verification, and *this* bug is completely absent from
the list.

The changelog also includes references to over a dozen intermediate
versions which were never uploaded to trusty, resulting in a very long
changelog that would be presented to users on update.

And the changelog doesn't even have the last SRU as part of its history.

I am reuploading the package with a fixed changelog, which will include
the changelog of the current SRU, with a single entry added:

maas (1.8.3+bzr4053-0ubuntu1~14.04.1) trusty-proposed; urgency=medium

  * New upstream release, 1.8.3 bzr 4053 (LP: #1509147).

[Bug 1278359] Re: ntpdate call frequency

2015-10-28 Thread Ross Vandegrift
If ntpd is running, ntpdate should never run - doing so causes clock
jumps. In Trusty, /etc/network/if-up.d/ntpdate actually stops ntpd so
ntpdate can run. Debian jessie doesn't do this, so if this was from
upstream, it's been fixed.

>From /etc/network/if-up.d/ntpdate:
-
if [ -e /usr/sbin/openntpd ]; then
service='openntpd'
else
service='ntp'
fi

invoke-rc.d --quiet $service stop >/dev/null 2>&1 || true

/usr/sbin/ntpdate-debian -s $OPTS 2>/dev/null || :

invoke-rc.d --quiet $service start >/dev/null 2>&1 || true
--

Workaround:
sudo mkdir /etc/network/if-up.d.disabled
sudo dpkg-divert --divert /etc/network/if-up.d.disabled/ntpdate --rename
/etc/network/if-up.d/ntpdate

[Bug 1450960] Re: dev file system is mounted without nosuid

2015-10-28 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package systemd - 227-2ubuntu1

---
systemd (227-2ubuntu1) xenial; urgency=medium

  * Merge with Debian unstable. Remaining Ubuntu changes:
- Hack to support system-image read-only /etc, and modify files in
  /etc/writable/ instead.
- Simpler udev maintainer scripts (all platforms must support udev, no
  debconf).
- initramfs init-bottom: If LVM is installed, settle udev,
otherwise we get missing LV symlinks. Workaround for LP #1185394.
- Add debian/udev.lvm2.init: Dummy SysV init script to satisfy insserv
dependencies to "lvm2" which is handled with udev rules in Ubuntu.
- Add debian/udev.lvm2.service to avoid running the dummy lvm2 init
  script.
- Provide shutdown fallback for upstart. (LP: #1370329)
- debian/extra/ifup@.service: Additionally run for "auto" class. We don't
really support "allow-hotplug" in Ubuntu at the moment, so we need to
deal with "auto" devices appearing after "/etc/init.d/networking start"
  already ran. (LP: #1374521)
- ifup@.service: Drop dependency on networking.service (i. e.
/etc/init.d/networking), and merely ensure that /run/network exists.
This avoids unnecessary dependencies/waiting during boot and dependency
cycles if hooks wait for other interfaces to come up (like ifenslave
  with bonding interfaces). (LP: #1414544)
- Add Get-RTC-is-in-local-time-setting-from-etc-default-rc.patch: In
Ubuntu we currently keep the setting whether the RTC is in local or UTC
  time in /etc/default/rcS "UTC=yes|no", instead of /etc/adjtime.
  (LP: #1377258)
- networkd: Change IPForward= default to "kernel". This keeps
compatibility with lots of packages which expect to be able to
  enable global forwarding in /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward.
  (LP: #1500992)
- Put session scopes into all cgroup controllers. This makes unprivileged
user LXC containers work under systemd. (LP: #1346734)
- Don't attempt to migrate pid 1 itself when migrating cgroups for started
units; works around some not yet understood cgproxy/systemd interaction.
This particularly unbreaks cgproxy in LXC. (LP: #1491557)
- Lower Breaks: to plymouth version which has the udev inotify fix in
  Ubuntu.
- Change systemd-sysv's conflicts to upstart-sysv. (LP: #1422681)
- Don't build new systemd-journal-remote package and drop
libmicrohttpd-dev. This is blocked by the MIR (LP #1488341).
- Build using libseccomp on all architectures (See Debian #800818)

Upgrade fixes, keep until 16.04 LTS release:
- systemd Conflicts/Replaces/Provides systemd-services.
- Remove obsolete systemd-logind upstart job.
- Clean up obsolete /etc/udev/rules.d/README.
- systemd.postinst: Migrate mountall specific fstab options to standard
  util-linux "nofail" option.
- systemctl: Don't forward telinit u to upstart. This works around
upstart's Restart() always reexec'ing /sbin/init on Restart(), even if
that changes to point to systemd during the upgrade. This avoids running
  systemd during a dist-upgrade. (LP: #1430479)

systemd (227-3) UNRELEASED; urgency=medium

  [ Martin Pitt ]
  * debian/tests/logind: Add tests for scheduled shutdown with and without
wall message.
  * Import upstream fix for not unmounting system mounts (#801361) and drop
our revert patch.
  * debian/tests/boot-smoke: Apply check for failed unmounts only to user
systemd processes, i. e. not to pid 1.
  * Drop Fix-usr-remount-failure-for-split-usr.patch. Jessie has a new enough
initramfs-tools already, and this was just an error message, not breaking
the boot.
  * Drop debian-fixup.service in favor of using a tmpfiles.d clause, which is
faster.
  * Drop Order-remote-fs.target-after-local-fs.target.patch. It's mostly
academic and only applies to the already known-broken situation that rcS
init.d scripts depend on $remote_fs.

  [ Michael Biebl ]
  * Drop dependency on udev from the systemd package. We don't need udev
within a container, so this allows us to trim down the footprint by not
installing the udev package.

systemd (227-2) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Revert "sd_pid_notify_with_fds: fix computing msg_controllen", it causes
connection errors from various services on boot. (Closes: #801354)
  * debian/tests/boot-smoke: Check for failed unmounts. This reproduces
#801361 (but not in a minimal VM, just in a desktop one).
  * Revert "core: add a "Requires=" dependency between units and the
slices they are located in". This causes user systemd instances to try and
unmount system mounts (and succeed if you login as root).
(Closes: #801361)

systemd (227-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * New upstream release.
- Bump watchdog timeout for shipped units to 3 min. (Closes: #776460)
- gpt-auto-generator: Check fstab for /boot entries. (Closes: #797326)
- Fix

[Bug 1511222] [NEW] Please include patch for Apache PR 54651 in trusty-updates

2015-10-28 Thread William Shallum
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I checked and the latest version in trusty-updates is missing the patch
for PR 54651 (link below):

https://svn.apache.org/viewvc?view=revision=1569006

This fixes the case where mod_remoteip trusts multiple IP addresses in
X-Forwarded-For if the client IP is trusted. This allows anyone to spoof
the remote address by sending an X-Forwarded-For header to a trusted
proxy (which will append its own IP to it).

Is it possible to ship this patch in trusty-updates?

To answer the common questions:

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS
Release:14.04

$ apt-cache policy apache2-bin
apache2-bin:
  Installed: 2.4.7-1ubuntu4.8
  Candidate: 2.4.7-1ubuntu4.8
  Version table:
 *** 2.4.7-1ubuntu4.8 0
500 http://kartolo.sby.datautama.net.id/ubuntu/ trusty-updates/main
amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 2.4.7-1ubuntu4.5 0
500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty-security/main amd64
Packages
 2.4.7-1ubuntu4 0
500 http://kartolo.sby.datautama.net.id/ubuntu/ trusty/main amd64
Packages

Expected to happen: mod_remoteip should use the rightmost X-Forwarded-
For entry if the client IP is in the trusted proxy list. It should then
use the second rightmost entry if the rightmost entry is in the trusted
proxy list, and so on.

What happened instead: mod_remoteip always checks the client IP against
the trusted proxy list as it goes down the X-Forwarded-For entries. It
will always set the remote IP to the leftmost entry in X-Forwarded-For
if the client IP is trusted.

Regards,
William

[Bug 1509147] Re: [SRU] MAAS 1.8.3

2015-10-28 Thread Steve Langasek
> We would like to request a SRU for MAAS 1.8. This follow the approval by the
> Ubuntu Technical Board for backporting new MAAS upstream releases.

I have taken pains to review the history of the Technical Board
discussion about MAAS, and I cannot find anywhere a statement of
approval by the TB for this.

The most current information I can find from March 2015 indicated that
the TB was waiting for the details of the MAAS team's regression testing
plan and compatibility committments before approving this plan. I don't
find any information about this plan on the TB mailing list or in TB IRC
meeting logs since then. I do see that there was an SRU of maas 1.7.6
to trusty in August, but this doesn't seem to have been backed by any TB
approval that I can see.

Please provide a pointer to the MAAS regression test plan and
compatibility committments.

[Bug 1511118] [NEW] 100% cpu usage with unresolved name server

2015-10-28 Thread Lefteris Nikoltsios
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 15.10
Release:15.10

Package Info:
==
socat:
  Installed: 1.7.3.0-1
  Candidate: 1.7.3.0-1
  Version table:
 *** 1.7.3.0-1 0
500 http://gr.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ wily/universe i386 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

[Impact]
At Ubuntu Wily OS, when we use the socat with a nameserver which is not defined
at /etc/hosts and is unknown, the system hits 100% cpu usage. Additional, to
terminate the process you must give -9 parameter in kill command. Ctrl+C does
not terminate the process.

With older versions of socat (< 1.7.3.0 upstream) the system does not
drive up to 100% cpu usage, but prints appropriate error message.

[Test case]
* A simple test to validate the issue, is to execute the below command:
socat tcp:server-local:789 -
* Using older version of socat the above command will print:
socat[2756] E getaddrinfo("server-local", "(null)", {1,0,1,6}, {}): Name or
service not known

[Regression Potential]
This bug affects the releases that use socat 1.7.3.0 upstream version (Wily,
Xenial). The Vivid, Trusty and Precise are not affected.

** Affects: socat (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

[Bug 1511158] [NEW] package mysql-server-5.6 5.6.27-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2015-10-28 Thread ken78724
Public bug reported:

On my cloned mirus AMED-64 PC housing a maxtor 750g, a maxed out 80g and
120 g seagate [disconnected] this week I upgraded Kubuntu 10.04 to
15.10, which had a shut down problem followed by Libre Office 5, which
would not save documents.

on about 10-23-15 +/- 6-8 pm, Ubuntu Forum lost my ken78724 upgrade
thread which was titled "10.04 to 15.10 ubuntu upgrade shut down
problem" Oddly the Forum copy of that thread "Has been lost?"

This afternoon immediately after doing a terminal "Sudo apt-get update"
and Sudo apt-get upgrade, and this several "mysql" terminal commands
[which I cannot cite], auto notices did autolaunchpad problem
submission. I cannot explain further.

Thanks for all that you do.

[Bug 1510671] Re: package mysql-server-5.6 5.6.27-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2015-10-28 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem,
rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I'm marking this bug as Incomplete.

If indeed this is a local configuration problem, you can find pointers
to get help for this sort of problem here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community

Or if you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it
helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem,
explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem
specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to New.

2015-10-28 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for your report.

Version 5.6.24-2+deb.sury.org~precise+2 is a package from a third party
PPA which isn't under the control of Ubuntu developers, so we can't fix
it as part of Ubuntu, sorry. For this reason I'm marking this bug as
Invalid in Ubuntu. You might be able to get help for this problem from
the wider community. Pointers at http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community
