[Bug 1524069] Re: [Xenial] KVM trusty guest 3.13.0-68 raid6-pq panic in raid6_avx21_gen_syndrome() while probing grub devices [was: Xenial KVM: updating Trusty guest from 3.13.0-68 to 3.13.0-71 causes
Ok I attempted to reproduce without success. What I tried: - Xenial on Xenial on machine/guest with avx2 - Trusty 3.13.0-{68,71} on Xenial on machine/guest with avx2 In both of these instances I modprobed raid6_pq, in the trusty instance I triggered an upgrade from 68 to 71 and neither of these caused a segfault. The following information would be useful in debugging this: 1) The differences between the guests /proc/cpuinfo with it reproducing and not-reproducing. This can verify the avx2 bit is to blame. 2) Can you simply 'sudo modprobe -r raid6_pq && sudo modprobe raid6_pq' to trigger this issue? 3) Can you test with a xenial guest and a similar configuration to see if this still triggers the issue? 4) If you have the ability testing with different versions of hypervisor (trusty vs xenial) might also be useful. [Bug 1500581] Re: open-vm-tools-dkms fails to build on kernel 4.2 (Wily Werewolf) [error: implicit declaration of function ‘nd_set_link’]
@dyno-fu I *was* using the open-vm-tools from the PPA! I tried several things with either open-vm-tools or vmware-tools and the conflicting software removed. Ubuntu was upgraded from 15.04 (initially 12.04), open-vm-tools and vmware-tools were both always working fine. After the upgrade, things didn't work as described above. To keep my (maybe broken) Ubuntu system out the equation I installed a clean 32-bit Ubuntu 15.10 from scratch into a new VM (in fact I downloaded one from osboxes.org) Surprise: open-vm-tools 9.10.3 are working fine on a 32-bit VM. [Bug 1318317] [NEW] openipmi startup script removes kernel modules
You have been subscribed to a public bug by Jon Grimm (jgrimm): I need some IPMI kernel modules, so I load them during startup. This worked quite well until I upgraded to Ubuntu 14.04. As you can see I have the modules in /etc/modules: # grep ipmi /etc/modules ipmi_watchdog ipmi_devintf ipmi_poweroff ipmi_si Right after reboot, the modules are there: # lsmod |grep -i ipm ipmi_si53257 2 ipmi_poweroff 14366 0 ipmi_devintf 17572 0 ipmi_watchdog 24912 0 but disappear after a few seconds/minute. I found out, that the cause is the /etc/init.d/openipmi script. The behaviour of the script is quite strange because a stop/start will behave differently then a restart. I loaded the modules manually using modprobe: ipmi_si53257 2 ipmi_poweroff 14366 0 ipmi_devintf 17572 0 ipmi_watchdog 24912 0 when I execute: # service openipmi stop the module ipmi_devintf gets removed: ipmi_si53257 2 ipmi_poweroff 14366 0 ipmi_watchdog 24912 0 starting the service again with: # service openipmi start will remove ALL IPMI kernel modules: # lsmod |grep -i ipm # One of the reasons seems to be the module ipmi_msghandler. This is already integrated and causes some of the problems. When I remove it from /etc/init.d/openipmi like this: 65,66c65 < #MODULES_BASE="ipmi_msghandler" < MODULES_BASE="" --- > MODULES_BASE="ipmi_msghandler" 325,326c324,325 < # modprobe ipmi_msghandler > /dev/null 2>&1 < # modules_loaded ipmi_msghandler --- > modprobe ipmi_msghandler > /dev/null 2>&1 > modules_loaded ipmi_msghandler stoping and starting the service works again. But restarting the service will still remove all modules and will not load them anymore. ** Affects: openipmi (Ubuntu) Importance: High Assignee: Taco Screen team (taco-screen-team) Status: Confirmed ** Tags: taco-screen-team -- openipmi startup script removes kernel modules https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1318317 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to the bug report. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

** Description changed: - ifupdown hook is present in /etc/init.d/openvswitch-switch, but not in - /etc/init/openvswitch-switch.conf which is the default. + [Impact] - === modified file 'debian/openvswitch-switch.upstart' - --- debian/openvswitch-switch.upstart 2013-08-23 11:18:52 + - +++ debian/openvswitch-switch.upstart 2014-05-01 04:26:00 + - @@ -32,11 +32,13 @@ -fi -set "$@" $OVS_CTL_OPTS -"$@" - + ifup --allow ovs `ifquery --allow ovs --list` - end script + The documentation included in both upstream Open vSwitch (ovs) 2.0.2 and + the version distributed by Ubuntu states that it supports configuring + ovs using /etc/network/interfaces (see /usr/share/doc/openvswitch- + switch/README.Debian). Moreover, /etc/init.d/openvswitch-switch contains + the necessary logic to support parsing /etc/network/interfaces but that + logic is completely missing in the Upstart /etc/init/openvswitch- + switch.conf script. - post-stop script -. /usr/share/openvswitch/scripts/ovs-lib -test -e /etc/default/openvswitch-switch && . /etc/default/openvswitch-switch + The result of this issue is a user can properly configure their network + in /etc/network/interfaces, test it with ifup/ifdown, reboot, and have + no network configured with the machine comes back up. If the user is + unaware that Upstart is being used and not classic init.d scripts, a + manual call using /etc/init.d/openvswitch-switch works as expected. + Without boot integration, users can't easily use Open vSwitch to + configure their "main" interface and have a system work on boot. - + ifdown --allow ovs `ifquery --allow ovs --list` -ovs_ctl stop - end script + The fix in this thread basically adds support for using the normal + config files (/etc/network/interfaces and /etc/network/interfaces.d/*) + to configure the network on boot. + + [Test Case] + + After running `apt-get install -y openvswitch-switch`, add a stanza to + /etc/network/interfaces like the following: + + allow-ovs br0 + iface br0 inet static + ovs_type OVSBridge + address 172.16.0.1 + network 255.255.255.0 + + Try `ifup br0` and `ifdown br0` and notice how the interface is + correctly controlled. Try `/etc/init.d/openvswitch-switch restart` and + note how the interface comes up. Reboot the machine and note how br0 is + not correctly configured. + + [Regression Potential] + + This problem is recognized by the user community (see + http://www.opencloudblog.com/?p=240, + http://blog.scottlowe.org/2012/08/17/installing-kvm-and-open-vswitch-on- + ubuntu/, etc) and people have been manually patching their systems for + years to get the desired capability. It's conceivable people's odd ways + of fixing this problem could conflict with the potential patch. Double + ifup'ing or ifdown'ing an interface shouldn't break any systems but + error messages may be emitted. + + The other unlikely issue is that users have interfaces correctly + configured in /etc/network/interfaces and are deliberately depending on + the interfaces *not* coming up on boot. This patch would cause these + boot-dormant interfaces to come up unexpectedly but, again, I think this + problem unlikely. + + [Other Info] + + This patch aligns the boot behavior both with what's expected and what + the documentation states. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to openvswitch in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1314887 Title: ifupdown hook is missing in upstart script To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openvswitch/+bug/1314887/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1524635] [NEW] haproxy syslog configuration causes double logging
Public bug reported: The current rsyslogd configuration as provided by the rsyslogd package causes double logging to occur. Steps to Reproduce: 1) Install haproxy via whatever normal means (apt-get etc) 2) Configure it to listen on at least one port, even just the stats port 3) Visit the URL configured You'll see logs generated in both /var/log/syslog (via /etc/rsyslogd.d/50-default.conf) and /var/log/haproxy.log (via /etc/rsyslog.d/haproxy.conf). Steps to fix: 1) mv /etc/rsyslog.d/haproxy.conf 49-haproxy.conf # This could be any number less than 50, to have it read before the default.conf 2) Restart rsyslog. 3) Access the provided service This will cause the entries to be written out to only /var/log/haproxy.log. The testing was done on a Ubuntu 14.04 server (trusty) with haproxy 1.4.24-2ubuntu0.3 installed: $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS Release:14.04 $ dpkg-query -W haproxy haproxy 1.4.24-2ubuntu0.3 Please let me know if you have any further questions. ** Affects: haproxy (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: canonical-bootstack -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to haproxy in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1524635 Title: haproxy syslog configuration causes double logging To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/haproxy/+bug/1524635/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
