[Bug 1535898] Re: Trusty & Vivid multipath-tools (multipathd) seg-fault core dump
And now that I did some more testing with Louis on this, we were able to "run into" a crash with mpp->alias attempted to be freed but failing, which isn't quite the same backtrace as I had pasted earlier. [Bug 1536525] [NEW] juju-local: Don't depend on rsyslog
Public bug reported: Please drop the "Depends: rsyslog-gnutls". rsyslog is not a required part of the installation any more as we have the systemd journal now. [Bug 1533639] Re: [ubuntu-cpc] please make /tmp a tmpfs in RAM
swapspace sounds cool. I'll try it on my next installation of Ubuntu instead of reserving a separate partition. I think the Ubuntu installer could have an option for making /tmp a tmpfs and for making suitable swap configuration for that thus adapting to all needs. I use noatime option for filesystems that may have read operations on SSD to reduce wear, but that might not work in every setup. I think also notebooks benefit from such optimizations, as they tend to have more often only SSD as local mass storage. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1533639 Title: [ubuntu-cpc] please make /tmp a tmpfs in RAM To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/livecd-rootfs/+bug/1533639/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

You shouldn't have to. Lxc does it for you on the container directory, and on ubuntu by default your homedir should be world readable. Encrypted homedir presumably changed that for you. (Assuming you're on systemd, add --debug to the cmdline in /lib/systemd/system/cgmanager.service, restart it, start an app, then show output of journalctl -u cgmanager) I suspect libpam-cgm will need to create the cgroup with same path that systemd used for the name=systemd cgroup. Reviewed: https://review.openstack.org/270235 Committed: https://git.openstack.org/cgit/openstack/swift/commit/?id=8c1976aa771f8c43c5dbe676bd9a5efc69f09eae Submitter: Jenkins Branch:stable/liberty commit 8c1976aa771f8c43c5dbe676bd9a5efc69f09eae Author: Samuel MerrittDate: Tue Dec 8 16:36:05 2015 -0800 Fix memory/socket leak in proxy on truncated SLO/DLO GET When a client disconnected while consuming an SLO or DLO GET response, the proxy would leak a socket. This could be observed via strace as a socket that had shutdown() called on it, but was never closed. It could also be observed by counting entries in /proc//fd, where is the pid of a proxy server worker process. This is due to a memory leak in SegmentedIterable. A SegmentedIterable has an 'app_iter' attribute, which is a generator. That generator references 'self' (the SegmentedIterable object). This creates a cyclic reference: the generator refers to the SegmentedIterable, and the SegmentedIterable refers to the generator. Python can normally handle cyclic garbage; reference counting won't reclaim it, but the garbage collector will. However, objects with finalizers will stop the garbage collector from collecting them* and the cycle of which they are part. For most objects, "has finalizer" is synonymous with "has a __del__ method". However, a generator has a finalizer once it's started running and before it finishes: basically, while it has stack frames associated with it**. When a client disconnects mid-stream, we get a memory leak. We have our SegmentedIterable object (call it "si"), and its associated generator. si.app_iter is the generator, and the generator closes over si, so we have a cycle; and the generator has started but not yet finished, so the generator needs finalization; hence, the garbage collector won't ever clean it up. The socket leak comes in because the generator *also* refers to the request's WSGI environment, which contains wsgi.input, which ultimately refers to a _socket object from the standard library. Python's _socket objects only close their underlying file descriptor when their reference counts fall to 0***. This commit makes SegmentedIterable.close() call self.app_iter.close(), thereby unwinding its generator's stack and making it eligible for garbage collection. * in Python < 3.4, at least. See PEP 442. ** see PyGen_NeedsFinalizing() in Objects/genobject.c and also has_finalizer() in Modules/gcmodule.c in Python. *** see sock_dealloc() in Modules/socketmodule.c in Python. See sock_close() in the same file for the other half of the sad story. This closes CVE-2016-0738. [Bug 1536882] Re: upload golang1.5 package for trusty
** Description changed: - [coming soon] + There is a need to provide a version of Go 1.5 in trusty-updates. We + can't upgrade the golang package itself in trusty because that will + cause other packages to ftbfs so the best place seems to be providing a + golang1.5 package that juju and other consumers can build depend upon. + + There is an expectation that new versions of juju will be made available + in trusty-updates. trusty was released with version 1.2 of Go, which is + almost indescribably ancient in Go terms. The Go team maintains at most + two versions of Go, so 1.4 and 1.5 at the time of writing but this will + be 1.5 and 1.6 in a few weeks, which means that trusty will soon be 3 + versions behind a supported version. + + In particular, authors of third-party packages that juju depends upon + are mostly no longer supporting go 1.2. Specific examples of packages + this affects: + + * lxd client code requires Go 1.3+ (currently not built on trusty) + the new Azure provider requires Go 1.3+ (needed for centos and windows + workloads in azure) + * vmware provider requires Go 1.3+ (currently vendored and hacked to work + with 1.2) + * the systemd go bindings require Go 1.3+ (currently vendored and hacked + to work with 1.2) + + In addition, Go 1.5 is available for all supported architectures in + trusty, which means the Juju developers and release managers do not have + to worry about bugs and different behaviours in gccgo (such as the + rather alarming https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1517611 ) as well as the + gc compiler. + + [Test Case] + + None as such. Just that the golang1.5-go package is installable. + + [Regression Potential] + + This is to be a new package, so none. + + [Building the packages] + + A wrinkle is that Go 1.5 requires Go 1.4 to bootstrap, which is not + available in trusty. Also there is no version of the 1.4 gc compiler for + arm64 or ppc64le, which means that the only option is to build with + gccgo 5. While it presumably would be possible to create temporary gccgo + 5 packages for trusty that could be used to build the package, this is + an almighty lot of work compared to building the package once in wily or + xenial, binary copying this to trusty and then rebuilding it with the + copied package there. + + I have built packages for this here + http://people.canonical.com/~mwh/go15trusty/ -- the plan would be to + upload 1.5.3-0ubuntu1~bootstrap to xenial in a devirted all arch PPA, + binary copy the result to trusty, upload 1.5.3-0ubuntu1 to trusty in the + ppa and then binary copy this to the archive. + + I have done these steps in a ppa: + https://launchpad.net/~mwhudson/+archive/ubuntu/go15-trusty/+packages + but unfortunately made some stupid mistakes which means the version + numbers are not quite what I'd want, so the packages will need to be + built again if this process is approved. + + There is some more thinking about this on + https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MichaelHudsonDoyle/Go15InTrusty -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to golang in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1536882 Title: upload golang1.5 package for trusty To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/golang/+bug/1536882/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
