[Bug 1442674] Re: sysstat log corruption, time isn't changing

2015-08-19 Thread Bill Cole
Note that the "-L" flag is hardcoded in the sa1 calls of sadc, so
whatever locking that does is not fixing the issue. Seems like a
possible upstream bug?

I've had this issue in sysstat data files generated on machines ( n=9
out of 48 sa?? files from 3 different machines) where the sysstat
resolution has been changed to every 2 minutes by changing this line in
/etc/cron.d/sysstat:

 5-55/10 * * * * root command -v debian-sa1 > /dev/null && debian-
sa1 1 1

To:

*/2 * * * * root command -v debian-sa1 > /dev/null && debian-sa1 1 1

I've been able to salvage the files by looking for repeating binary
patterns to figure out the size and offsets of sadc records, finding the
one which is a runt, and rebuilding the file by splicing together the
sections before and after it, making sure the resulting file is
identical in size to the other full-day files that are parseable. This
is not an easily documented process, as it requires eyeballing hexdump
output and making educated guesses, but there are useful tips:

1. With "-S XALL" in SADC_OPTIONS, each record is 8-9KB, and for some reason
they seem to alternate between 2 sizes (!) 16 bytes different, e.g. 8528 bytes
& 8544 bytes.
2. There is a header in the file between 850-900 bytes, so a good place to
start looking for patterns at the end of records (useful!) is ~9K.
3. EVERY time I've had this problem, the 2nd record has been a runt, 500-1500
bytes shorter than the normal records.

Because excising the runt record yields what seems to be a perfectly
good file, my guess is that the root cause is collision between the
23:59 run and the 00:00 run, with the sadc -L flag for some reason
failing to do its job.

[Bug 1026621] Re: nova-network gets release_fixed_ip events from someplace, but the database still keeps them associated with instances

2013-09-20 Thread Bill Rich
My issue is the timezone changing on my Win2k8 instances. When an
instance boots up, it is on UTC. It gets a DHCP lease in this timezone.
After a few minutes, the timezone is then changed to PDT and the time
Windows thinks it obtained the lease gets screwed up (~136 years in the
past). DHCP then gives up on renewing the lease until the instance is
rebooted, or it is renewed manually. Once Windows misses renewing the
lease, nova marks the lease as released in the db (and nova-dhcpbridge
generates the "del" message).

[Bug 908154] Re: PHP session garbage collection measured in minutes instead of seconds

Steve,

You're right, /usr/lib/php5/maxlifetime is dividing by 60 to give it in
minutes. I can't think why I believed otherwise when I reported this.

Thanks, this is not a bug after all.

[Bug 908154] [NEW] PHP session garbage collection measured in minutes instead of seconds

2011-12-23 Thread Bill Ruddock
Public bug reported:

1) $ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 11.04
Release:11.04

2) php5-common:
  Installed: 5.3.5-1ubuntu7.4
  Candidate: 5.3.5-1ubuntu7.4

3) With session.gc_maxlifetime = 1440 Expected session files to be
cleaned up that are over 1440 seconds old (=24 minutes)

4) What happens: only files older than 1440 minutes are deleted.

In the file /etc/cron.d/php5 is the following
09,39 * * * * root   [ -x /usr/lib/php5/maxlifetime ] && [ -d
/var/lib/php5 ] && find /var/lib/php5/ -depth -mindepth 1 -maxdepth 1 -type f
-cmin +$(/usr/lib/php5/maxlifetime) -delete

This takes the output from /usr/lib/php5/maxlifetime which is in seconds
and treats it as though it was in minutes.

Should be
-cmin +$(($(/usr/lib/php5/maxlifetime) / 60)

[Bug 737547] Re: package libvirt-bin 0.6.1-0ubuntu5.2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2011-03-21 Thread Bill Ross
no results from grep libvirt /var/log/daemon.log

Libvirt seems to start ok in the console, although I cannot use the
"Virtual Machine Details" window when connected to a remote machine. (I
can, however, start and stop the remote machine)

The problem seems to be a crash in dpkg only.

Unfortunately I cannot upgrade this machine yet, but if interested I can
try from a live CD in the next couple of days

Thanks Serge

[Bug 668043] Re: libvirt default network doesn't start, iptables errors, bad rules

2011-02-04 Thread Bill Burman
I installed this patch late last night, and got the error

error: internal error '/sbin/iptables --table mangle --delete
POSTROUTING --out-interface virbr0 --protocol udp --destination-port 68
--jump CHECKSUM --checksum-fill' exited with non-zero status 2 and
signal 0: iptables v1.4.4: unknown option `--checksum-fill'

I also confirmed that the interface was not started. I tried more than
once, just to be sure.

However, I tried again this morning, and it worked, the interface was
created, and no errors were reported.

The host has been running without reboot since last night, and before
the patch was applied, no other updates have been applied.

I can see that apparmor did a "profile_replace" on libvirt some time
after it was started, I don't know much about apparmor, but is it
possible this should have been reloaded or something? This is the only
thing I can see in my logs that might have changed between it not
working and now, when it does.

[Bug 611226] Re: Dovecot-common Install Error

2010-09-12 Thread Bill Mills
I also had this issue. I saw a good number of questions but no answers
so I am linking to my resolution in the forum.

http://newyork.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=9839614#post9839614

It may not be a bug but hostname -f is definitely picker in 10.04 than
it was in 9.10. I duplicated the same config in both (via a script
using the official cononical EC2 AMIs for each) and the simple setup
works in 9.10 and not in 10.04. editing /etc/hosts and
/etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf gets me to a working solution in 10.04.

[Bug 516040] Re: dovecot sieve plugin renamed from cmusieve to sieve

2010-05-22 Thread Bill Weinel
>Fatal: Invalid configuration in /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf
>[fail]
>Line 691 in dovecot.conf says:sieve=~/.dovecot.sieve

I experienced this same issue after a distro upgrade from 9.10 to 10.04
LTS. I found that this problem is being caused during upgrades from
earlier versions by retaining the old dovecot.conf file during the
upgrade. A number of config statements have been moved around in the
dovecot.conf file for the new version included in 10.04 LTS causing the
old dovecot.conf file to be incompatible. The solution is to use the
latest version of the dovecot.conf file included with the distro during
upgrade and then manually add your local configuration changes. Examples
of the new format are included and loaded during the upgrade in the
etc/dovecot directory for ucf-dist, db, dict-sql, sql, and ldap.

Cheers

[Bug 454164] Re: likewise-open5-eventlog doesn't properly install

2009-10-19 Thread Bill Kearney
Can you confirm that the file /etc/likewise-open5/eventlogd.conf
actually got created during the install?

I tried using the 'remove completely' option in synaptic before doing a
fresh install again. Same deal, no evenlogd.conf file got copied.

I then did an apt-get remove, followed by an apt-get install of it
again. Same problem, file /etc/likewise-open5/eventlogd.conf did not
get created.

I noticed this file being missing because over messages in the logs. I
had some other samba/AD related setup hassles so I was trying the use of
likewise and was having a bit of trouble with it.

Making me wonder, if one file is inexplicably missing, what others
aren't getting installed?

[Bug 454164] [NEW] likewise-open5-eventlog doesn't properly install

2009-10-17 Thread Bill Kearney
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: likewise-open5

I've just begun trying to use likewise-open5 on Jaunty and it doesn't
appear to be installing itself properly. I've used the Synaptics
package manager to mark it and apply it for installation. It appears to
run. But in checking things aren't getting installed as per their
'installed files' list.

I've no idea why, nor do I have a firm idea how to debug it. I'm open
to suggestions and/or debugging steps.

I checked the contents of the .deb file stored in
/var/cache/apt/archives and it DOES contain the files. One such file
that doesn't get installed is /etc/likewise-open5/eventlogd.conf

I could, of course, just manually extract and install the files. But
this troubles me as the package should be able to install itself
properly, or at the very least not silently fail.

Chuck,

thank you for your interest.
bug #44506 is no longer a problem.
i reloaded & updated successfully, everything works fine now -
except that when i return after suspend i get a message "serious kernel
problem ... might become unstable."
reported as bug #447653, #448834, and joined bug #450711.
also see my two system tests.
a simple restart seems to fix everything.

its wonderful all the hard work you people at canonical do!
THANKS.

[Bug 326768] Re: mysqld_safe thinks mysqld has crashed when it hasn't

2009-05-18 Thread Bill Meek
Short answer: Fixed.

I was running on Mythbuntu 8.10 and didn't have these errors.

Fresh load of Mythbuntu 9.04RC, got the 'hanging' messages in syslog and
database errors ending with
'MySQL server has gone away' in mythbackend.log. These messages are gone now.

Thank you.

[Bug 269251] Re: package bacula 2.4.2-1ubuntu4 ~hardy1 failed to install/upgrade: Abhängigkeitsp robleme - lasse es unkonfiguriert

2009-03-10 Thread Bill
A workaround for this bug is:

sudo /usr/share/bacula-director/postinst-common
sudo apt-get -f install

Presumably the first command should be run upon installation and it is
not.

[Bug 120375] Re: cannot boot raid1 with only one disk

2008-06-04 Thread Bill Smith
didn't a previous poster say that this works fine in the current Debian?
So maybe the place to start is to identify what was changed from the
'base' Debian scripts, and why.
