The 3.19.0-27.29 kernel broke something with our RAID array but it seems like IPMI is working. Public bug reported: In utopic creating a libvirt VM (through virt-manager or virt-install) fails with: internal error: No PCI buses available. This is caused by an Ubuntu patch in the qemu package that changes the default machine type to pc-i440fx-utopic. It also adds an alias ubuntu for pc-i440fx-utopic. This seems to be the one actually used. libvirt has some rules hard-coded how to set up the PCI bus depending on the machine type. Obviously it doesn't check for ubuntu. First of all, this is NOT a duplicate of https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/1261873. I get the same problem, while my [homes] section in smb.conf is ok, i.e. ALL the lines there are commented out. What happens on at least two independend installations of Trusty, one of them a fresh one: Trying to share a folder in Nautilus for the first time makes it automatically ask to install the samba package. This seems to work, but then a simmilar dialogue appears asking to install libpam- smbpass, too, but this time the whole dialogue is greyed out and clicking one of the two buttons (cancel or install) has no effect at all. It can only be closed clicking the x button in the top corner. OKAY, this is not fixed yet. Where do i have to send a patch to? It really is as easy as writing name resolve order = bcast wins lmhosts host into smb.conf. Everytime a new Ubuntu is installed users are experiencing this and think fuck, not even shares work. Please reconsider the importance - it is a quite annoying bug (at least to me). Same here. We have rather complex tunneling mechanisms where we hop over 5+ systems to get to the target hosts. Hi, I also encountered that problem: I'm running Maverik Merkat 10.10: Same message operation failed: failed to retrieve chardev info in qemu with 'info chardev' I played around like when you have a physical machine, that won't work: You remove piece by piece until it boots to figure out the faulty hardware: So I figured out, that when I reduce the used physical memory from 3072 MB RAM to 2048 the machine booted again. Remains the question: why did it work before with 3072MB and suddenly it stoops. BTW: I have 12GB physical memory in my server as well as 12 CPU Cores which gives me 24 threads. I had this problem before, and then usually a reboot of the machine did it also, of course, I can't reboot a host that runs 4 productive machines during business hours... What I'm curious about: The error message says error to retrieve chardev info... which console command could I use to directly check for info chardev? I think this is a mayor issue, as else kvm/libvirt or what ever else is responsible to cause that, is not to be run in productive environments. For me I switched from vmware-server to kvm to use pure open source... but I'm already thinking on going back as these issues, as well as still sometimes guests looses their network while still showing an up-state link within the guest - and so far there is no solution for that either.
